I wondered how close to you that was all happening. What is happening to our formerly safe world where people were respected for having differing opinions?

So glad you had joy this weekend with your family. What a wonderful surprise!

Hello from Karlstadt!

We are cruising up the Main at what feels to be a leisurely pace. I'm sitting in the glassed in lounge watching the countryside glide by. Such activity feels quite luxurious and civilized. While this is not real life, I sure do see the appeal of this type of living. It's very non taxing!

Italy cruise will be booked today. I'm still considering Egypt vs Greece for a 2027 trip. Both are bucket list destinations, as would be an African Adventure! I am also thinking either a Rocky Mountain train adventure or seeing Alaska would be super fun. So. Many. Choices! (Sadly, finite funds!!!!)

I am grateful for my sleeve and tirzepatide on this trip. The food choices are extraordinary so I can see how one could easily pack on some pounds over 18 days. The breakfast buffet is a real work of culinary artistry. Ron has eaten his way through breakfast like a real champ! I've been pretty careful, but enjoying the food nonetheless. This morning I had a poached egg on a toast point with a tangy avocado puree followed by a small bowl of milk based oatmeal. For me, the smaller European portion sizes help, too! I get a little taste of everything without feeling too wasteful.

Last night I was unable to eat my dinner. I ordered a braised chicken. It was unappealing visually and then tasted too gamey. Add on the unctuous texture and after one or two bites I couldn't stomach it. I nibbled at the vegetables, but that was it. Of course I finished my desert and Ron finished my dinner. LOL!

This afternoon we will port in Würzburg. I am looking forward to getting out for a nice walk. The weather is lovely - mid 70s today with fluffy clouds.

The news of the assassinations reached us. Our group of 3 is horrified and bewildered. We have not overheard others speak of it. I took great delight in reading that an estimated 50 million US residents took to the streets for the NO KING Day protests (as compared to the fewer than 10,000 people who showed up for Trump's parade. No surprise Trump took to social media with promises of retaliatory action.

DD, enjoy the first Monday of your newest chapter! I am looking forward to comparing notes with you over the next year.

Liz, I think this is your last day in Aruba. Hope you get to enjoy it to the fullest.

Diane, Viva la France! You must go!

Hoping everyone has a good start to the week!

124.8. Happy Dad?s Day all!

Church today, ham sandwiches for lunch and FFY (fend for yourself) for dinner. I had yogurt with blueberries! Otherwise a pretty boring day.

DC1?s date got postponed until today. They had a good time though and it sounds like they will be seeing the person again.

Weather looks better than it had but still iffy for this week.

I agree, travel when you can! I think we might delay it for 2 years until we start getting Social Security. Moving will be expensive enough!

DD, the shootings of your legislators is awful. Crazy world we are living in!

Safe travels home Liz.

Continue keeping us updated on your travels Peps!

Peps I so agree that it's important to travel as much as you desire and can afford in your 60s and 70s. There are people like our own Ann and her DH that will still be running circles around everyone in their 80s. We have a dear friend who is 87 and this year traveled to NYC, Dublin, and Mexico City. She will be going to Argentina in December. But so many amazing people I've known who led robust, healthy, adventurous lives are no longer able to travel much in their mid eighties. My own incredible aunt will probably not travel out of North America again, urged me to Go Now! when I was outlining our plans and wondering if it was too much.

PS: We are in discussion again for an October trip to Egypt. More to come!

Happy Father's Day to all. It has been an absolute joyous weekend with the surprise visit of my children! I was expecting A quiet weekend with DH, maybe A trip to our coffee shop, some gardening, reading, A trip to the grocery store. Instead it was beautiful chaos, dinner and lunch out, A bonfire in the evening, laughing, stories, playing with my son's girlfriend's Boston Terrier. My heart is full to bursting. DS and his lovely girlfriend left around 10am, and DD flies out this evening.

We went for coffee with DD after DS got on the road. On the way there, we saw 25+ law enforcement cars from State Troopers and St Paul flying down the freeway, lights sirens blasting. We immediately thought they must have info on the murderer who killed our legislators. We later saw this group along with other departments converge south of here on the news, but no new information yet.

The absolute horror of Saturday morning lingers. Our House of Representatives is evenly split, and our Senate has a 1 vote Democratic majority. They just settled our budget this week. It wasn't easy, but it was bipartisan compromise. I felt proud we as a state had arrived at agreements everyone could live with, because the budget proposal was indeed passed. And then this heinous murder of legislators. What will become of us?

The son of my BFF's family live in the neighborhood that had to be locked down yesterday. They had to find words to explain to elementary kids why they couldn't leave the house to go to softball and birthday parties or even play in their yard.

So there has been a lot of emotion this weekend. I am left with this: Joy is an act of resistance.

Good for you planning your next cruises right away. You definitely should do all this while you have energy and health.

I said a Happy Father's Day to my dad this morning. I will call him around 6 or 7 pm tonight - 9 or 10 am his time in California.

Today we woke to rain, but a nice temperature. It rained steadily for several hours, which was fine because we are cruising most of today. Our first excursion is at 3:15 pm. It's raining again and about 75 degrees. I'm hoping the rain stops so we can have a dry walking tour. Because we've been cruising all day, it's been a fairly lazy day.

We are on the Main river. We have to pass through many locks on this river. I have enjoyed the lock experiences, as it is new to me. I decided that these river boats have all been designed to fit in the locks with only inches to spare. Every so often while in the lock, we bump up against the lock wall. It feels just like a smooth version bumper car experience.

We are booking two more cruises. One with my brother and his wife which will tour the Italian coast and cross the Adriatic Sea to Croatia. We'll do a few days in Rome before the cruise and then cruise for 8 days. The other one, well... it's a bucket list trip. A cruise on the Nile River. The tour will include three nights in Cairo with tours of the Pyramids of Giza. Then one flies to Luxor to board the boat and tour the Nile from Luxor to Aswan. Seeing the monuments of Ancient Egypt has been a fantasy since I was a child. Plus, everything I read says travel it up during your 60s and 70s. My dad didn't much like travel by his mid 80s, so I'm keeping that in mind. I'm so good at rationalization!

Today tirzepatide is in hyperdrive. It took me a good hour to eat both breakfast and lunch. I ordered light at lunch and then didn't finish.

Still raining.... Boooooo..... Hope it stops SOON!
