Summer might be here at last for all of us?
Tree work makes me very nervous. My DH might attempt to do it himself too but I would try to insist on hiring someone.

She really did! His experts hammered the prosecution and his closing argument was really strong.

Yesterday was one of those busy retirement days you all told me about. We did our workout, ran an errand to the Post Office, stopped at the grocery store to buy ingredients for stuffed pasta shells, bought some mulch at the hardware store, and tried to cut down a significant part of a tree next to our hot tub!
The tree is half dead, and needs to go, but it's tricky, because if DH just cuts off massive sections it will land on the hot tub or fence. So he's cutting it down piece by piece. It involves ropes, ladders, chainsaws on telescoping poles... So far so good, but the possibility of something going wrong or DH getting hurt certainly makes one live in the moment! He is very careful and methodical thank goodness. We were out there until about 7pm. My job is mostly to hold ropes and pray.
I am committed to making a few nice meals this week, to show myself I can I guess and to thank DH for all the cooking over the last 2 years. There will be no frozen pizzas for a good while.
Today more tree work and a concert in the park. The weather looks fabulous. Dinner will be food trucks. Celebrating the Solstice!
DD told me a little about this case, but I need to read this article I think, to really understand it.
I love the Solstice too. Its pretty dramatic at these Northern latitudes, with the sun setting at 4:30pm in December, and near 9:30pm in June. Last night we were outside and it was bright and beautiful at 9pm. The Swedish Institute in Minneapolis (which is in an awesome mansion) does a Solstice Party on the lawn of the mansion. We attended once on a balmy summer night, and it was so much fun to celebrate the return of the light.
I'd never heard of her until now. Also sounds like she had a great lawyer!

Good progress made on your renovation. You must be looking forward to having it all complete!
I hadn't thought about it being the summer solstice. Being in Florida all winter and most of the spring and fall makes me forget the seasons.

Oh I meant to mention what everyone here in Massachusetts is talking about in the news. Don't know if any of you saw anything about the trial of Karen Read in the news? It made national headlines a few times because it has been such a contentious case. The woman was accused of killing her police officer boyfriend by running over him while drunk. The investigation was so flawed that it was hard to believe any of the allegations and the accused was so drunk I don't think even she knew whether she hit him or not. But the stupid Commonwealth of Massachusetts tried the case twice! Once resulting in a hung jury and the second time in a not guilty on all counts except OUI. It cost millions of dollars to run these trials. What a waste! She may have done it, but there was no way to prove it with the shoddy investigation. I'm sure there will be a book/movie about it in the future which if done right could be interesting reading/viewing.

Thanks for the excellent posts lately from y'all -- interesting to me in lots of ways regarding retirement, mortality, nutrition, delicious food, the benefits of travel, the courage required to take risks and make changes, living our best lives, fitness and gym enthusiasm and discipline, what positive and negative role models teach us, and more.
Here in Kentuckyland, things are going well. In less than three weeks, physical therapy has increased my knees' flexion from 92 and 95 degrees to 102 and 108 degrees. I'm sure there's more improvement available, but it's also clear I will need to keep up this PT regimen to retain my new flexibility. Obviously, I had became accustomed to "protecting" my knees, but that also meant they and their functions were atrophying. Gee ... a metaphor for other abilities, eh?
Great news--the shower problem has been correctly diagnosed and finally fixed. It was a manufacturing defect of the valve inside the wall, for which the manufacturer will have to reimburse us for the extra work and delay required to correct the problem. Looks like we'll actually be moving in soon. But first, the other big project to complete is the installation of cabinets and closets in my dressing area.
This weekend we're looking forward to a family wedding, but happily it's in town and won't require a long road trip. We'll also be attending a live music event we've been looking forward to.
And summertime here is coming in hot--most of next week it'll be in the 90s and sunny. Am I the only one who gets excited by the summer solstice? I love all these solar system and planetary shenanigans. Makes me feel (in good ways) the largeness of everything and my/our silly smallness.
Thanks again for sharing your lives here. You'd be amazed how much I learn from you.
