I can believe those 2 tasks would be enough for the day at your house!

I was in D.C. on 9/11. Finally got home on Saturday. What a horror for our nation and all Americans.
Last night we watched the debate and slept in a bit this morning. Today is floor-mopping day and mowing day. That's a lot to get done. I'd better get up and get at it.
Y'all have a good day. It's the only one we have right now.

I wonder if September 11 evokes strong memories for my kids as it does for me. Such a fearful day, made somewhat more personal for our friend group because one of us was a flight attendant who was supposed to be on one of the planes that crashed. She had switched days with a friend but it took a few hours to ascertain that. And so sad for her and her co-workers to receive the news. It is always weird to drive by the flight school where the terrorists trained when we go to breakfast on Sundays in Florida.
We did no****ch the debate from Block Island - in fact we were asleep by then. I hadn't been sleeping well earlier in the week but I think I have caught up now. We typically watch some TV news at night but spend more time reading the news in the morning while drinking our coffee. It seems like such a luxury to do so after so many years of rushing in the morning to get ready for work.
Block Island is great so far: Similar in some ways to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket but much more quaint. It seems like there are many more casual restaurants and bars on the water. The other islands seem to have reserved water view restaurants mostly for the upscale resorts. The hotels are in large old buildings that make you feel like you have stepped back in time. We are debating whether to rent bicycles or a moped. I prefer the former but we haven't been on bikes for quite a few years.
Enjoy your day all! Have a winning Wednesday!

That recipe sounds good - I'll have to try that!

lol these were the in laws who served an aspic of stewed tomatoes in diet raspberry jello. Ds
Ditto here. I consume the big American newspapers in the morning, but I haven'****ched TV news of any kind since DH died 6.5 years ago. TV news programs aren't long enough to do much except read the headlines. I can't tolerate any of the political programs or channels that air cultural/political drama-llama outrage. I figure at nearly 79 I'm much too young to watch TV all day and yell at the screen.
I admit, however, that I'm a Twitter victim. It's gone super downhill since Musk bought it, but I still follow a few people there for financial and market insights, actual journalists, and folks who've held significant business or political positions. It's like everything else--social media is as useful as the people you follow, and I curate my sources rigorously.

"My childhood best friend used to put a brick of cream cheese in the mashed potatoes in her passive aggressive attempt to murder her in laws who were on the Pritikin diet."
I'm trying not to scream with laughter (others are in the room, and they wouldn't understand). I don't have the courage to do something like that and, bottom line, am probably not mean enough to do it, but I can think of a few people I'd love to do that to!

We are kind of news junkies too. I read the paper everyday, and probably watch too much news. My preference is to watch old school national news like CBS , and local news. Not as much whipping up hysteria. My Dad religiously watches PBS Newshour. Very calm delivery of even very serious news. I always forget it's on at 6pm here.
Greetings all
It's overcast today. Ho hum. Scrabble this morning. I beat the Shark soundly and won the second game but lost the third game horribly. Oh well, next week no one will remember. My friend lives in a very ordinary neighborhood but it backs up to a pretty large forest tract. An elderly woman has been missing for a couple of days and is believed to be in that forest. I saw a police search and rescue van near there today. I think it has the search dogs. Hoping she is found.
Meatloaf! It can be so good or so terrible! I bought some more 95% lean beef today so maybe I will make it. Meatloaf is not something I would order at a restaurant and I have bad memories of it from college but Liz it sounds like your place got it right. Mashed potatoes are the ultimate comfort food. What a great dinner. My childhood best friend used to put a brick of cream cheese in the mashed potatoes in her passive aggressive attempt to murder her in laws who were on the Pritikin diet.
And caramelized onions DD! What a great addition. Yum. Never thought of doing that. Years ago I used to make lamb meat loaf and put mint in it. It was great. DH will not let me bring any into the house. He hates the smell of it cooking.
Paula those potatoes sound great. Need to try that too. I might even start cooking again.
Last of the chili tonight then I start over.
FINALLY I have some pink sweet peas. The second bunch of them, that I thought was dead, has finally bloomed and has some pink. Yay.
Yep we will watch the debate and probably a lot of the blathering before and after. We are news junkies.
DH got a new tv for our bedroom. Think I will go take a nap and check it out. I had a lot of errands today including dog pills and liver sausage. Oy vey.
