119 - 3 days in a row. It bounces like crazy, then sits at one point. Weird, but probably reflects when the size of my meals are fairly consistent the prior day.

Yesterday felt like a lot of running around for a retired person but it's good to be out especially in the cold weather.

I play 9 holes of golf with the ladies association today. Since I played in the group last Thursday I played once with DH and went to the driving range twice. I have focused almost all my time on hitting the darn ball off the ground since that's my toughest. Yesterday I only missed the ball a couple of times so if I stay in the right mindset maybe I won't be too bad today. I probably should take some lessons again but I don't feel like adding something else right now. Regardless the weather looks nice again.

I am making arrangements for Justice to go to the home of a Rover.com person next month when we are away for 12 days. I like the place he has been going to here but it is more expensive and I think a home environment would be better for such a long period. I am going to visit her home next week beforehand to make sure but she gets great reviews and apparently has a large fenced in yard which is great for him. I have had good luck with sitters I have found that way so far so hopefully it continues.

Not much else going on. Have a thingamagig Thursday!

'Sup?

Missed posting or reading here yesterday. It was one of those crazy days involving a lot of wasted time. My windshield replacement appointment didn't happen, because I discovered my very long-term expensive auto insurance policy (purchased in Missouri) doesn't have a free windshield replacement clause because that's not something Missouri law insists on (unlike Kentucky, where replacement of cracked windshields don't trigger an automatic $500 deductible). So that was about 3 hours wasted figuring all that out.

Then I went to the DMV to see what was involved in getting a Kentucky driver's license and learned that one thing I MUST have to make that happen is an actual social security card. Yes, that tattered old thing that disappeared sometime in the last 30-40 years with my maiden name on it. After some frustration with Social Security's 800 number ("Your wait time to speak with an agent will be 120 minutes!"), I found a link that lets one order a new card online. But then I learned a new replacement card costs $76. That's right. $76 for a new paper social security card that will just get tattered. And it turns out you DON'T want to laminate a social security card, which might make it impossible for some official to properly evaluate whether the paper it's printed on is legitimate or just a fake. Geez, more time wasted (although I guess I did advance my cause).

BTW, those poor people who work at the DMV surely do earn their pay. Walking into that overcrowded room felt like what it might be like if I wandered into a surgery where all the flat surfaces were covered with people being operated on. Contrary to popular opinion, I thought the workers there were astonishingly polite and patient with the frustrated citizens who couldn't believe they needed so much documentation just to get D.L. replaced.

Then the day got better. I had an early evening ****tail date with a book club friend who needed a night out--she's now caring for a husband who has terminal cancer. We had an attentive bartender who knew his stuff. For the first time ever I had something called a "black Manhattan" (rye whiskey, Amaro, Angostura bitters, orange bitters). I liked it quite a bit, although apparently not everyone is a fan.

Today I have a hair appointment. Sure wish a cut and color didn't cost so much these days. Yowzah!

You used to be able to get a free copy of an SS card but after either 2 or 3 they charged. I keep mine in a plastic sleeve.

And yeah, I hate the price of getting my hair done especially here. Much more reasonable with my person on Cape Cod though I think I am going to need to get it done in early March.

My favorite DMV story: I was waiting, armed with a book and patience. A Jimmy John's delivery poked his head in the waiting area and said Delivery for John K. I nodded with deep satisfaction, knowing we are still a nation of innovators.

Also, dealing with these tedious, nonsensical, bureaucratic tasks gives new meaning to impotent rage. You are their puppet and there is nothing you can do until your tasks are finally done.

Good morning friends ! I've been checking in but haven't been successful responding. I had some unexpected contact with my ex and have had to process to work through some panic attacks. Our cold, cloudy and snowy January amplified my seasonal affect disorder. I am just about bounced back. The good thing is that I am stable in the 136-141 weight range and eating my feelings seems to be off my "playbook".

I just called my baby to wish her a happy 36th birthday. How does this happen so fast ? My DSs are coming to visit from Charleston today, and I'll go down there for a few days next week. One DS has a son and daughter-in-law who live there, and they are staying in Charleston the month of February. I am thinking of getting an electric tricycle. It is not optimal kayaking weather here November - February/March, and being active outside in the sun is essential for me. Will try to check in more regularly.

So very happy to hear your voice here! I think about you often and have wondered how you and your puppy are doing. I'm glad your seasonal affect disorder is winding down after this weather'ish January we've all had. Even Kentucky (where I'm now living full time) wa**** hard the week of January 7 with lots of snow and ice, but it's finally all gone now.

We love you!
