Weight 119.8. Need to figure out something healthy and satisfying to make for dinner tonight.

Florida is in for a big hit from Milton. My friends on the West coast have evacuated as Port Charlotte is supposed to take a big hit. I have friends with places in Venice and Clearwater as well who aren't there but very fearful about what is coming. Where we live now on the east coast it doesn't look as dire though everyone is preparing by getting all the food and toilet paper available at the stores. They generally aren't evacuating. We live in Indian River County which is under a Hurricane Warning but we are on the edge of where it changes to a Watch. The spiraling winds should be coming mostly from the south which is good because our condo has no windows on that side of the building. Our lanai opens on the north side. It just occurred to me that the box I will be shipping likely is going to take much longer than usual to reach its destination. I will have to factor that in when choosing its contents.

Yesterday I did meet SIL and BIL for lunch. And over the course of the day I got the slipcovers on the chair and couch I moved here washed so everything looks fresh.

DH stayed here and finished cleaning his garage. He feels pretty good about getting this place in shape after letting it go for a lot of years. It was a very part time place for him before he retired, then after he retired his ex moved here for a couple of years. So over all those years stuff had just been accumulating in closets, cabinets, drawers, the basement, and garage. It's mostly cleared out now though some deeper cleaning is indicated in some areas. Luckily he didn't ignore the structure so the roof, siding, and bathroom were all replaced within the last few years.

Today I will continue packing for Florida though I have some time (we leave mid-day Monday). Have a topical Tuesday!

I am surprised to be the first reply today - especially as it is almost noon here.

Fist time on the scale in a week today. I am not displeased. I weigh the same as I did when I left. Yes, secretly, I would have loved to have seen a lower number, but seeing 223.1 was a win - especially because my dose last week was less than a third of my normal dose. So, a double win!

I was pretty wiped out when I got home. I slept a lot on the plane, but it was a very light sleep. I did both suitcases unpacked and put away, did a little puttering in the closet and got some more clothes purged. I found one of my "normal" sized suits (a 44) and was happy to see I could button it, but I really need to drop another 15 or 20 before it fits properly. I do not wish to be smaller than a 42 suit coat. Anything between 42 and 44 is fine.

Oh, and after some fall like weather in Pennsylvania, coming home to 100 degree heat was rather unpleasant. I'm done with this heat. I want crisp autumn weather NOW!!! Today our "cooling trend" began. It's supposed to reach "only" the mid 90s today. FUGH!

Had weird dreams last night. Can't really remember them, but I remember waking up thinking YUCK! I think I'm glad they faded away so quickly.

I could have used a day to recover at home, but not my fortune. At least my classes were sort of enjoyable. Monday and Tuesday are not my favorite days, but I do have one first grade class on Tuesdays that is really delightful.

So, signing off from here as... Torrid Tuesday!

A really scary and serious time for Florida. One of my co workers daughters is at University near Fort Meyers. She appears to have a safe place to stay, and her car is stored on the 3rd level of the Fort Meyers Airport Parking Ramp. I read about other cities that were opening ramps so people could park there.

The dryer is working! DH fixed it with a $22 part. He said the part has been failing for awhile, and I will be impressed by how hot it gets now. I'm already impressed he fixed it in the first place.

Tomorrow and Thursday we have conferences until 7pm, so two 12 hour days in a row. Ugh. But it must be done. At least now parents have to schedule. They used to be drop in, so you never knew who was showing up, or when.

Weight is steady. I'm going to make my version of chili, which involves a lot of vegetables and not a lot of chili type heat. So not sure if it's chili or not. I use a version of a Wendy's copycat recipe and I've added black beans and corn to it. We like it :)

Liz, I'm very happy to hear that Milton will probably not do much (if any) damage to your part of the world down there.

However, the "living in Florida scene" these days sounds rough to me. Something I didn't appreciate until Helene hit is how much warmer the waters around and south of Florida are becoming and how that increase in water temps sets the stage for larger, more frequent hurricanes. Also, the home insurance scene down there sounds increasingly onerous.

I also bet that you've had an earful of all this news and worries from those who don't live down there. I have no doubt that whatever challenges that part of the world offers that those who have chosen to live there find it gloriously rewarding. Truth is, no place is perfect or 100% safe. I'm just glad that your situation is comparably safe.

Last summer the news kept saying the gulf waters are a 100 degrees. That seemed impossible. But when I entered the gulf water in Veracruz Mexico that summer, it was hot tub warm. It freaked me out! I thought this can't be safe for swimming, what weird things could be growing in water like this? And now we have these hurricanes just sucking up this heat....

Greetings all

A great cool fall day here though warmish by our standards. I bet it was maybe 70. Started the day with scrabble. Won two, tied one. I beat the Shark again. I have just had really good luck with drawing. We discuss world and current events and are now trying to decide on how to vote on all the weird California propositions. I left with a bag of apples from friend's tree. The bear has not gotten them yet.

Speaking of apples, we watched a movie last night called "Jules". A flying saucer crashes in the back yard of a sort of confused old man and no one believes him. He is kind to the alien and feeds him apples. Nice story.

After scrabble I went to the clay store for new clay. Got someone to carry it for me. 25 pounds are killer to this old broad. Got a half deli sandwich and then went to the gym and did most of my walking. It was late and i was pretty tired. There was also a Grunter there. I think a different one. No thanks.

So Liz glad you and DH are making the home yours together. The news on Milton is terrifying. Bathwater! No wonder there are storms. Hard to believe that ocean could be 100 degrees.

Welcome back Peps. Congrats on closet shopping.

Dinner tonight might be hamburgers. Need a nap first.

If the shark wins, it's because of lucky draws, if you win it's because of superior skill! Just like if there is an up tick in weight, it's not real weight, but a downward tick always is a real loss. I don't make the rules, I just live in this Universe.

DD, you're right! It's so obvious, isn't it?

A side point is that it's wonderful to have a friendly antagonist in one's life. Friendly competition is one of the sweetest spices of life. When we're challenged, we come alive. Have I mentioned before that my favorite drug is adrenaline?
