I got to work at 7:30am, and was out the door a bit past 10am. We went to coffee at our place. Happy surprise, we are in St. Paul, about 20 or so miles from home, sipping coffee on the sidewalk tables when we see my sister in law strolling down the sidewalk. We live about 3 miles from each other, but had to have our meet up in the big city. :) She is also a fan of the thrift store we like, and Monday is senior discount day.
Interesting talk about heirlooms, because I ended up buying someone's silverplate flatware set for $40.00. I have a silver set I love that DH bought for my very first mother's day, when we absolutely could not afford it. He dipped into the modest inheritance his Dad left him. I do use it a lot, but not everyday, because we are tough on our everyday flatware. (Okay, not so much me, but I am astonished how often DH uses it for tools). I feel like the time has come to have some nice everyday flatware, instead of the current mishmash, but also wouldn't break my heart if I found a butter knife in the garage being used as a makeshift screwdriver. This thrifted set will do just fine. I do wonder though, what's it's story? Did no one in the family want it? Was it replaced with a better set? My grandparents didn't have nice things to leave us, but the things I do have, like my Grandma's rolling pin, are irreplaceable. But then I think about my kids. DD will want the silver set, but neither want the china. One day it will be sitting in a thrift shop. Until then, I'm using it frequently, and putting it in the dishwasher whenever I want!

Congratulations on reaching summer break!
I feel a lot of guilt about not taking more of my parent's lovely things - silver, crystal, china, art, furniture... but there is only so much you can carry through life and a lot didn't fit my lifestyle. I too am always in sweats and rarely eat at the table! I'm sure my mom is spinning that I didn't take it.
Welcome to summer break!
By all means use the good stuff! If you have no use for your regular flatware, take some and give it to DH to set out in his work space and throw some in your kitchen thingy drawer instructing DH where "exclusive indoor tools " are. With any luck he will stay away from the nicer stuff.
What pattern and make is the new to you silverware.
Welcome to summer vacation!
It amazes me how items that used to get high prices in antique stores are no longer wanted by anyone. My deceased MIL had many, many place settings of some beautiful, delicate china called Haviland. No one in the family wanted it (by then we mostly had our own china and the next generation didn't like it). No antique stores were interested. It went to a thrift shop - hopefully someone is appreciating it.
Greetings all
It's another sunny beautiful summer day and plenty warm for me. Just right - car air conditioner not needed. Hope everyone else has the climate preferred.
Liz sorry you are sore. Easy to overdo in the water because strain is not felt so much. Enjoy the rest of your stay.
Peps BMI charts are for the birds. Dr. Cirangle told us that when Arnold Swartzeneger was at his body building peak he was technically obese. Muscle mass is heavy and thats the way it is. So you should learn to ignore it. We all should.
Stopped in the studio today to pick up new stuff. Spent time on the phone with some horrible tech support so we could fix an issue. Hate that.
CC I looked up fandiliers. Lordy there is some FUGLY stuff out there. I understand the utility but does it have to look like a waffle house? Anyway good on you for adjusting.
China and silver. As teenagers my friends and I used to go into fancy stores and decide what we liked. They all got married out of college and had registered sets. I did not get married until I was 43 so was beyond that. I have my grandmothers Havalind china which is beautiful but has sat unused in the cupboards for 22 plus years. No one wants it. My mother had china and silver and my niece has it - I think reluctantly. So be glad if the kids want to see it used and enjoy.
Hey my brother is actually threatening to come up and visit. We have only lived in the same state for 22 years. He finally ran out of better things to do. Should be fun showing him around the wonders of the redwoods.
Not much else.
