Every time there is a shooting I wonder how our lawmakers can justify not changing our gun laws. So many deaths have occurred due to the ease of obtaining a gun in the US in general and particularly in some states. I read an article about tourism stating that some people from other countries are afraid to visit the US due to the gun violence. The right to bear arms did not mean the right to carry a firearm and shoot innocent individuals.

On a lighter note, the pouring rain yesterday kept us home. I created and ordered the Save the Date cards for DD (with her approval). The wedding invitations were also drafted but I will order them later. We blew up the 3 air mattresses DH has had stuffed in the closet to see if they are still functional. DD is having her bachelorette party here in August so the need for extra sleep surfaces may be required. If the women are willing to double up in queen or king size beds we have room for 8 on regular surfaces. The blow-up mattresses and the couch on the lanai add another 6. I think there will be around 8 though (including me). Still a lot for 2 bathrooms.

Today it is WINDY and COLD. The next couple of days will be sunny but also very cool for Florida. What a weird winter. I am hoping DD's Florida feet will bring warmth.

Time to put on my winter jacket and walk Justice outside. Have a pleasant President's Day.

Waiting on the masonry guy and a painter to paint the new solar conduit. My dad and Claudia went to Phoenix Mayo for my dad's mohs surgery. The thing on his head is really something. I imagine that is how unicorn mythology got started!

Super sunny today with lots of balloons. I'm enjoying an 8am diet coke because there is no one here to give me side eye. Kirby doesn't are what I drink.

I gave him a bath yesterday. So much shedding before and after! I used the brush vacuum DianeO suggested and filled that. Then I vacuumed the family room and filled the vacuum canister. There are still fur clumps I can see. Amazing. Imagine when he's twice this size!

Weight fluctuated up .2 pounds. Tomorrow is my 3rd shot. I'm thinking about meal prepping lunches. I'm tired of turkey sandwiches. But what to make? I was thinking taco seasoned meat with beans, cheese, salsa and lettuce? I was hoping for easy and high protein.

The ruins were great. And my dad managed all the rocky stairs. I will admit I was nervous about him especially coming down. So was he and said I was making him nervous. I gave them hiking poles and I think that helped. I need to think of a few more things to go do. Too much time locked away in the house with the puppy.

That's all I know. Take care all!

I put my Diet Coke in a water bottle at work. I look so healthy, while I'm sipping at 7:30 am.

Ingenious (and comical)!

I swear my 8th grade algebra teacher, Mrs. Cantanho, sipped liquor from her coffee thermos during first period! She started every morning with shaking hands, but by the end of period after her coffee her hands settled. Hmmmmm......

We are reading To Kill a Mockingbird. Atticus, talking about injustice, says, they did it before, they did it now, they'll do it again, and only children weep. When we discussed that line, students brought up shootings, and how we are all growing so numb. Remember the horror of Columbine? It brought you to your knees. Maybe I'm too cynical now, but when 20 little children were killed at Newtown, and there was no significant change, I knew there never would be. We will just live with it. And to clarify, I am not anti gun. DH has several guns, including hand guns for target shooting, and deer hunts.I've handled lots of guns, I grew up in a hunting culture. And I never once thought my classmates who had guns in their cars because they were going hunting after school, would instead shoot me. But I sure worry about it now.

How fun, I love that your daughter is having her bachelorette party at your house. So nice for those attending to be in a comfortable, beautiful home, and not have to spend a crazy amount for accommodations. Very thoughtful.

Yesterday was very restful. DH and I made it to Planet Fitness and I had a nice workout. Very easy to get on all the machines, and I wasn't feeling rushed. Then we came home and made a pot of chili with extra veggies.

I'm going to start packing today. Tomorrow night I have to go to a Union Settlement Rally, so that leaves Wednesday and Thursday nights. Best to get most done now. Friday, we leave immediately for the airport when I get home. Long range forecast is still looking good for the 5 days we are there.

I think the problem is so much further up the chain than access to guns. As you mentioned, this wasn't a thing when we were young.

I think it's abysmal mental health assessment and treatment options (and honestly, who is going to do it? How many talk therapists would we need to help millions of people?) and a societal breakdown of respect and morals which comes from how you're raised. If you don't respect life, yourself, others, other people's property, the law, or your community, what's to stop you from destroying any and all of it? It's a bleak outlook...

I absolutely agree with these statements. My issue with gun laws is especially around assault weapons which are certainly not necessary for hunting. Throw together someone seriously mentally ill and not receiving help for their issues, with a gun that can mow down people easily and disaster may result.
