Yesterday was another full day in Miami watching the Patriots lose to the Dolphins. Even tough the Dolphins dominated, I enjoyed watching pro football in person. It was my first time though I have seen pro baseball, basketball, and hockey. Very different feel being in the stands (as with most other sports). We had great seats in the end zone in the shade. I would have melted in the sun. It was also enjoyable to spend time with DH's son and future DIL. Beautiful engagement ring though the proposal was apparently as romantic as DH's (not at all). He is so much like his Dad in many ways. They are going to do a weekend get together with friends and family a few months after they get married, again much like what we did.

When we got home after 13.5 hours away we released Justice from his crate and took the squiggling little guy outside immediately. I can't believe he didn't mess his crate in that length of time. We didn't expect to be gone as long so felt very guilty and wouldn't have blamed him for not keeping his crate clean.

Back to reality. We are allowed to reserve boats now but it is going to be very windy most of the week. Maybe the weekend will be safer for us?

In the meantime I may paint another piece of furniture from the old house to use it in our living room here. And there are pictures to be hung also from the old house.

Time to give Justice a good long walk - he did have walks earlier in the morning before we left over the weekend but they weren't as long as usual. May be should get 2 today?

Have a mild Monday!

My weekend was filled with doggy drama. A litter I co bred with friends was born last Monday/Tuesday. Long story short, mama dog had retained placentas still in her uterus and birth canal. Triggered a case of metritis and possible low calcium. Took her to emergency. They insisted on keeping Mama overnight and kept pushing for surgery. Having been down this road before I knew that she was not sick enough to warrant the surgery. Turns out I was right. Once my repro vet looked over the records, (sent at my request) she emailed me to get her out of there ASAP, feed the pups and bring mama to her that afternoon. You know you have a good vet when she'll come to clinic on a Sunday! Pups and mama are all fine. Mama is responding to antibiotics and injections to help her pass the afterbirth debris and fluid that had accumulated in her uterus.

Dinah is scheduled for her c section on Thursday. Tonight we will start preparation of the doggy nursery.

Food has been pretty good since Friday. I'm slowly shedding the extra few pounds I had put on from traveling (and most likely the first month of school with so much free food).

Liz, while I am not at all a team sport follower, I do enjoy going to the stadium to watch baseball games. Something fun being in the crowd routing for the home team. I also enjoy watching soccer because I find the athleticism so impressive. Can honestly say I've never watched a football game from beginning to end. Football is pretty bleh for me.....

Not much else.... Oh, I did bite the bullet and contacted a local hauler to help me with my clean out of side yard shed and garage. Baby steps.

ThanK goodness you have so much experience with dog breeding. It would have been a shame for mama to go through unnecessary surgery.

Just a few days until more pups!

I've called my Dad from Emergency Vet Clinics on behalf of friends or myself. Sometimes my Dad said, absolutely, go forward with that treatment, other times no. One time a clinic told my BIL that a growth on his dog was cancer, but when consulted, my Dad didn't think it added up. He told my BIL to get a needle and syringe, extract some fluid from the growth, and describe it to my Dad over the phone. The dog did not have cancer, and died of old age. 2nd opinion is always helpful :)

Peps congrats on getting a junk hauler. Hope it goes well.

C section for Dinah??!! So do you have to hand feed the pups for a bit? Drama indeed.

Nope, pups will nurse normally. Mama dogs don't seem to even notice the incision. I have had several emergency c sections when large litters have been involved. Sometimes a litter of more than 7 or 8 can lead to uterine inertia (basically exhaustion).

In the 30s last night! It's gorgeous, sunny and 60 today. I walked 2.6 miles around the neighborhood. I ran into two neighbors walking together and we had a nice chat. It so nice to get past the "I will say hello but I don't know you" part to actually getting to pleasant chit chat stage. They are both dog people, so the new puppy coming was the topic of the day. The other topic was that I have been trying to find out if the county is responsible for the mile long road leading to our gated community. The thorny bushes are growing into the road and making it a hazard. So after two phone calls and an email, I spoke with the head of the road division for the county and it turns out no one is responsible (or our neighborhood is if we want something done to it). The bushes are one thing, but what about when the asphalt needs work? Hard for our tiny group of now 13 houses to pay to repave a mile long road. So I emailed the HOA board and they are going to see if we can have the road added to the county inventory. I imagine they won't make it easy, because it's money out of pocket for them. In our favor is there is a public trailhead parking lot halfway up the hill...

Anyway, after that I stopped at my glass/ceramics artist neighbor/friend's house. She is making me a glass piece for my lighted kitchen cabinets. It's gorgeous! She was so funny, didn't want me to feel obligated to buy it, didn't want to charge me, afraid to name a price... I said charge me whatever you would get if you sold it in her gallery. I'm just so glad it turned out so well. It would have been awkward otherwise or, more likely, I would have bought something I didn't love. She's going to poli**** and clean up some edges, but I'll post a picture when I get it.

Then when I got back, the landscaper was at the house working out lighting for the "puppy patch".

Busy morning! Now to go forage for lunch...

That glass piece sounds wonderful- can't wait to see it. Or to see the puppy when you get him!!!

Whaaaat, how can they maintain a public parking lot/access and not be responsible for the road it is on?

Crazy right?! And I told him the neighbors all say the road verges have been trimmed before and snow removed after heavy snowfall and he said if it was, it was an accident by someone who didn't understand it wasn't the county's technically to maintain.
