Our day at the track was fun, though I lost money. We spent some time with DS's birth aunt and uncle which was enjoyable. I was a bit dull though because of little sleep the night before due to this darn shoulder. It is bad enough now that I bought a sling to wear for the next few days to keep it from hurting constantly as the pain saps me. I see the orthopedist on Monday.
Today we are going across Lake George to visit Florida friends who spend their summers here. If the weather is decent we may go out on their boat. Showers are possible but the sun seems to be coming out right now. Interesting that the weather here on these dates the last 3 years has been almost exactly the same. Muggy with a chance of showers.
We will drive partway to Montreal late today, then spend the day in Montreal tomorrow. If we feel we want to we may extend by an additional day.
Have a thrifty Thursday!

Yesterday was a beautiful day here. Early this morning we had thunderstorms and it's cool, cloudy, and windy this morning. There is something magical about the ever-shifting weather in the midwest that CA lacks. 75 and sunny can get old after a while.
I finished my puzzle yesterday. It was a brain teaser with so many weirdly shaped pieces. Even down the the last few, I was struggling to find what fit where.
Just went to the grocery store and made it home just before the skies opened up and we got a deluge. Love it!
Not much else going on here. Doing some planning for remodeling my folks' kitchen. It's a good size, but with 4 doorways and 9 windows, it's got very limited cabinet/storage/wall space. We've met with the kitchen designer once and came away with basically our existing layout with new cabinets, but we've come up with some new ideas we'd like her to include and need to get our thoughts organized and go meet with her again. Some good ideas, I think!
Liz, that shoulder sounds so painful! Peps, your stories of the pack are heartbreaking and fascinating all at once. DD, enjoy your putzing before the return to the grind! DianeS, happy book sorting. I did three piles when I went through 5 bookcases full before my more. Definite nos, definite yeses, and I'm not sures. The yeses and nos were boxed up for moving or donation, then I went through the not sures at the end. Most of them at that point became nos as I looked at how many yeses I had... Dianeo, hope you had a great birthday! What did you do?
Reading is everything. That's sort of my healthcare directive, if I can still read, I'm okay to try and keep alive :). For years I got books from the library, thrift stores, garage sales, Half Price Books. I still use those sources, but now I can afford to buy books whenever I want, and I do. As the stacks in my office grow and grow, I was sure I would let them go once I was done. I find I don't want to part with most of them yet. Just touching them makes me relive the story. I read on my kindle, but I will always prefer a book in my hands. It really is an elegant design that has lasted centuries. There is a kinetic component to books that electronic media cannot quite capture.
Today we went to the funeral for our good friend's father. Such a good man and such a good, full and faithful life He was buried in the same cemetery as my in laws. Once the grade side service was complete and we left, DH and I paid a visit to his parents graves. My MIL was 60 when she passed, my FIL 63. They are still so vivid to me in some ways, it was a shock to stand there and think that I am now older, or almost as old, then they ever were. I was 28 when my MIL died, my husband was 29. We were so young, saying goodbye, and now we are not young. So much time without them...So again I know, if not now when?
Peps, thanks for sharing stories about your packs and their emotional life. There is so much we don't know yet I think. There has been some interesting work mapping dogs neurological responses to various stimuli using MRI machines. It would seem, they love us too.
Back into my Wegovy groove, and weight drops off slowly. But it is happening. Thank heavens. I tried so hard with Weigh****chers, low carb, other medications, and I could not get the weight to budge a pound. However long this works for me, I'm grateful for even these small losses.
Sobering to think of your in-laws being gone so long.
A friend and fellow book lover feels like you do about paper books. I just love to load my kindle with books from the library and being able to carry them all in my pocketbook.
Typing with my left hand is tough - arm in sling.
Maybe - hard to tell a yet as it was pretty painful by the time I put it on yesterday. I will probably wear it all day today.
Greetings all
It rained here today. Not a lot but it's a cloudy day still. If there is not morning light I have a hard time waking up. Late morning.
Today's mission was to finish the book shelves and I did that. Yes DD, books are like old friends. Sorting and placing each one reminded me of the person who gave it to me, the excellence of the story, the place I was when I read it, the experiences with my dogs (also dog show catalogs) and all manner of things. Found a few more of the post it note reviews from my departed friend Bruce. Anyway it's good to have the books out of the boxes even though I still have a lot to do in putting the house back together. Mainly my desk which is a long counter with multiple file cabinets. It's a mess still.
So my only outing was to the drug store drive through. There was a farmers market but I couldn't be bothered.
CC the weather changes in the midwest are indeed dramatic and fun. I miss the change of seasons. And I love the smell that comes with fresh rain. Hey you should be a decorator! GL with dads kitchen. Lots of decisions. Get some of those cupboards with roll out shelves.
Yep DD books are hard to part with. Each one has a life. I have a lot of garden books and it's fun to remember why I got each one.
Liz glad to hear you got a sling for your shoulder even though I am sorry you need it. Hope it provides relief. And enjoy Montreal. I was just looking at in on google. looks fun.
The bear visited one street over last night. I think it lives in the green belt behind us. My only solace is that there are other closer trash cans to raid. Local chat is not to put trash out the night before and also to not put food scraps or feminine hygiene products in the trash. Eeeeeyyywwwww.
Peps love the FB puppy video. Adorable.
Remainder of pot pie tonight. Thats about it.
