I am getting more and more nervous about going to Florida with this heat. Is it the media getting to me? I lived in Miami one summer and it was in the 90's daily with humidity like pea soup, pavement hotter than a skillet, and violent thunderstorms every afternoon. And that year there were at least 3 major hurricanes to contend with. Is it that much worse now?

I need to get moving as I am transferring to my home on Cape Cod for a couple of days prior to our Florida trip. Today on the way I have my last PT appointment and Justice has a follow-up appointment for his teeth. Tonight I am going to Barbie with DSD and the 2 SILs. Should be fun.

Have a winning Wednesday!

People have been upset on NextDoor in Sedona about the temp getting to 110 last week and how it was "unprecedented". Someone else posted the 10 other dates in the past 42+ years it got to 110. I think while temps are slightly higher than what we're used to in a normal summer, the fear mongering is making people more upset about it than the last time it got that warm.

I tend to agree with you. I do know that we are using the AC far more now than we did 10 years ago, but I also have more money, have solar panels on the roof and worry less about the bills. So, while I know it is statistically hotter, it's not all that much hotter. Phoenix (damn that is a weird spelling!) had a new record high for an overnight low last week - 97 degrees was the overnight low. That is indeed unprecedented.

I forget exactly how much of the polar ice cap has broken off and flowed into the southern oceans over the past 50 years, but it is a significant amount. That ice, now gone, was nature's AC for the planet. Without it, it's naturally going to be warmer. Makes sense to me. Now, why it is melting is another conversation altogether. LOL!

Greetings all

This day started a little too early for me. Tree trimmers called up and wanted to come today (not scheduled for a month) so I said ok. They just left after 4 hours. The front tree really got a serious haircut and I hope it will be ok. Looks pretty destroyed but the idea was to keep it from being too big which it already was. Guy says it will fill in and be better. hope so. Back yard tress got less of a chop - just overhanging branches.

So the floor project continues. Junk and more junk to be moved. I do see progress though.

Deli chicken enchiladas tonight.

It's sunny and nice here. Our deck is getting more sun due to tree removal.

Yep there is a lot on the news about heat wave. I am glad I do not live in a warm climate. I can remember as a kid getting red spots on my feet from being barefoot on hot pavement. Liz I am sure your trip to florida will be fine. Warm but fun as it should be.

Just realized I have a doctor apt in a couple of weeks and I am not sure about labs. Gotta call.

There has definitely been a change in the climate in Minnesota, fall is longer and warmer and we are getting much more snow in April than before, and spring is cooler, but then summer comes on suddenly like gang busters. It is estimated our growing season has increased by two weeks since the 70s. It does concern me when we have record breaking temps and the records being broken are from last summer. Even so, I would go to Florida. I don't think it's any hotter there than it is in Minneapolis! And in Florida, you've got a pool. My solution to everything, get in the pool :)

We got home at about 7pm last night. Most of my flowers were alive, but not flourishing. But when I'm asking other people to water them as a favor, that they are still alive is enough. My bird baths were empty, I felt bad for all the birdies in this heat who were used to visiting them.

We visited my parents, and it went better than I expected. My Mom was done being mad and castigating about my travels, and was happy to see us.

Tomorrow is my birthday, and everyone keeps asking us what we are going to do to celebrate. Frankly, I'm tired, and require no celebration at all. Maybe we will go to one of the public beaches. Or maybe I will just sleep. Whatever, it will be something of low effort, and relaxing...

Birthday sleep is the BEST! Especially when sleep is followed by coffee (or in your case, tea) served in bed!
