I guess when one is an only child with no children it is best to make a pact with friends to support one another as we age. Or at least a plan to move to a supportive environment. Mike and I take it for granted that our kids will step in when we need them. In fact we have talked about probably needing to live nearer to them at some point (but they will have to move our stuff). My DS says he will NEVER put me in assisted living. I feel like it is a bit of a criticism because I had to move his Dad in 3 months before he died. I never thought I would do it either but the need for an enclosed environment and my inability to attend to his personal care after a while was what drove the decision. I still think it was the right thing to do. If I could have afforded full-time assistance at home perhaps I would have done that. However, I have at least one friend who could afford it but still moved her DH to the same place mine was at for his last few months.

Enough mulling over the aging process. DH and I are both walking around with stiff backs, legs and arms (and a few bruises) from our move which makes us feel old, but we are done unpacking! A childhood friend of DH might come today from Orlando and stay over tonight. DH says he has a history of cancelling last minute though. It seems like a lot of single men tend to do that without considering the consequences. I have a BIL who will say he is coming and cancel more than 50% of the time so we all expect it when he does cancel.

Have a sunny Sunday!

Okay...I have injured my right pectoral muscle... that's right a sprained boob ! I do not believe it is a tear, but Sadie is going to have to use the car ramp. When she balks getting in the car, I've been having her put her front paws up on the tailgate, then I lift the back of her in.

Rain is starting to subside.

Oh Diane, I bet that hurts like hell, but I hooted when I read that! Hope it heals soon. You never know how much you use a boob until it's out of commission!

Liz, maybe think of the stiffness as a result of a good workout... And DD, your folks' living room looked amazing!! Sooo much work and it showed! Peps, glad you got a win however it came about! Is Ron okay? DianeS, good luck with the festivities prep! I approve of spreading it out over a few days. Shirl, if you're reading, hope all is well down under!

I had a nice day yesterday. I went for a 3.2 mile hike, went swimming be sat in the sun to dry off (got a little sunburnt, but that's hard to avoid when you've been indoors all winter), loafed around, had my evening movie/dinner plans cancelled (somehow that made me really happy unlike my flakey friend! I think it's partly the person and mostly hoe much effort I'd put in so far to get ready for the plans) and went to bed early. It was a good day. I will say the exercise made me really hungry and the sun really sleepy. Which I suppose means if I were an outdoor laborer, I would spend most of my off time asleep face-first in a plate a food.

Today I am going to play with my new pond vacuum. Exciting right? If it works to get the red silt out, it will be! I also need to write up my treasurer's report. Maybe sit outside again as the no-see-um's are late this year and the weather is glorious.

Did I mention I had my first snake on Thursday? A baby king snake. This picture looks bigger than he did in person, maybe 2.5 feet if you stretched him out. They get a lot bigger than this, but aren't poisonous. I was barefoot and stepped out to unlock the gate for the pest guy and he blended in with the wavy shadows of my gate. No more barefoot outside...

Anyway, you are now fully up to date on me. Food good, weight the same (grr, but I did eat a lot more yesterday), on the lookout for snakes, nothing else going on...

Have a good one!

Greetings Intrepid Ones

We are the intrepid ones still active in this group which has 1600 members. Oh well. I sure love this ritual of checking in every day even if I have little to add to the weight control discussion.

Speaking of which, I was listening to an NPR report on studies of highly processed foods, how they are about 70% of American diet and how they are known to cause weight gain though the chemistry is not clear. There was a study of people who were given diets of highly processed foods and non such foods. They were calorie fat etc balanced though the people were not limited in portions. The HPF people ate more and gained weight and the NHPF people lost weight. It's not clear why more was eaten of the HPF. The book End of Overeating proposes that sugar fat salt combinations can be addictive and the food industry conspires to get you addicted to their junk food. So the take away is avoid highly processed stuff. We all know the but it was a good reminder.

So the three ingredient onion dish I am making must be healthy, right? Well the bleu cheese probably has a ton of stuff in it. My wls doctor used to say if there were more than 3 or 4 ingredients on a packaged food you should not eat it.

Yeah aging is an issue and I am in the thick of it with no plan. Guess I had better make a POA for my husband and brother. I don't even have that (as a lawyer I did loads of those and lectured clients to do it.

Liz hope your visitor does not cancel. Yeah it kind of is a guy thing. My brother once flew home for Christmas on christmas day because the flight was about $100 cheaper so we all had to rearrange christmas around his schedule.

I managed to get about even item of cloth in the house washed yesterday, There was some suspicious brown stuff on my bathrobe and only a 50 50 chance it was mud. Today finishing up with that, hair washed and in drying mode, a quick store trip and off to the onion races.

Ocean Diane, so sorry you are hurting. You might have to put that arm in a sling. You never know how much those muscles are used until you hurt one. Ouch.

CC that snake is icky but at least it arranged itself into an artistic pattern. That counts for something.

Art night at the gallery last night and apparently I sold about 10 things. Good news but it means I have to get to work or get scolded for it being empty. Oh well.

DH found some kind of healthy choice 100 calorie fudge bars. Bet they have more than 3 ingredients.

Yes! Highly processed food, sugar, seed oils... all things that weren't in such abundance 50+ years ago. If we all took the longstanding advice to shop primarily the outer ring of the grocery store, we'd be better off!!
