Good morning all ! I've been trying to keep up with ya'll. I don't know how I get so busy, but I do ! I am part way through training to volunteer as a Guardian ad Litem. I have two more tutoring sessions for my little guy this year, then I'll change things up. I want to have more of a positive impact than one child at a time. As a Guardian ad Litem, I am an advocate /neutral voice for a child with an open case in Family Court. I will continue working with Women of Choice ll, with some GED tutoring in my future.
I am eager to hear about Wegovy process. I was stable 139-144, then it moved to 145-149. I am now creeping up and down one range up from that, 150-154. I believe that reducing my alcohol consumption will cut out associated carby snacking. Kayaking season will help too !
Age: 64; 5' 5"; High weight: 345; Start weight: 271 (01/05/15); Surgery weight: 218 (05/27/15); Pre-Op (-53); M 1 (-18); M 2 (-1.5); M 3 (-13.5 ); M 4 (-13); M 5 (- 8); M 6 (-12) M 7 (-5, Xmas); M 8 (- 9) Under surgeon's goal and REACHED HEALTHY BMI 12/07/15!! Whadda you know, sugar free Coffeemate does indeed spike my blood sugar. 18 points! And guess what else spikes blood sugar? A sauna! I read there are over 50 factors that affect how your body produces and stores glucose including food, sleep, exercise, and stress. So it's not a simple 1+1 equation.
Now that it's fully calibrated, I'm finding my blood sugar levels aren't all that great. When I woke up this morning, it was 107. While that's in the normal range for a non-diabetic and in my fat burning range, I also hadn't eaten for 13 hours and didn't have anything carby for dinner. Hmmm. I think refocusing on my weight loss came just in time.
The scale dropped another pound. So that's 8.4 and it'll be 2 weeks tomorrow.
Another thing I read, 1 in 60 Americans are now on semaglutides like Wegovy and Ozempic. I'm sure that's divided between diabetics and weight loss patients. The article I was reading was speculating that the diet industry and companies like Weigh****chers and Nutrisystem are panicking and could see their demise. Hmmm again!
Today I know I have a PT appt, unlike spacing out Friday and missing it. Otherwise I think a walk.
Have a great day everyone! And I would love a TT meetup anywhere someday and you are all welcome here individually or with the whole tribe!
I predict that Weigh****chers etc. will come out with Wegovy eating plans. And maybe that would be good. I am again grateful for all of the preparation before surgery, and after surgery. I feel like I have a lot of tools for eating smaller portions, tracking protein, staying hydrated, dealing with nausea, and being super aware of fullness signals. I feel for some of these people who just get launched into this challenging treatment without all the education.
Your blood sugar info for basically one day is super fascinating! How long did it stay elevated after you had your creamer?
Ocean Diane, you will make a great Guardian ad litem. I know a couple of people who had one during their divorces. One of the guardians took the abusive partner's story, hook, line and sinker. Luckily a psychologist had also done extensive interviews, and concluded the husband had behaved in a way to create real harm and fear in his children so the supervised visitations continued. Somebody with your experience would not be fooled, and would act in the best interest of the child.
How excellent that you are going to be a Guardian ad Litem. So important that the innocent have advocates!
Like Shirl, it is already Tuesday for us in Australia. Mike and I moved from Bondi Beach to a hotel in downtown Sydney for our last night. We took a tour of the city yesterday. This morning we are going to tour the Opera House, then take the ferry to Manly Beach for a few hours. We leave for Hawaii at 9:30 tonight (which is Tuesday) and arrive there on Tuesday morning. This international dateline crossing stuff is confusing! Hopefully we will get some more relaxation in Hawaii until we leave for home finally arriving early in Boston on Monday May 15.
Have a marathon Monday!
Greetings all
This mornings rain has disappeared into sunshine. Go figure. Kiln open day and I had a few goodies. I spent some time glazing and fooling around. Someone brought homemade cream puffs to the studio. Did I eat one? What do you think? The most awesome pastry ever because it's not too sweet. Why does God create such things if I am not meant to eat them?
Speaking of sugar, interesting CC on the blood sugar monitoring. Those monitors seem like a good idea. And very weird about the creamer. Who knew? Glad you are learning some things that help your health and eating habits.
Ocean Diane, good on you for being a guardian ad litem. Important work and you are so well qualified. I was appointed as one for a mentally handicapped adult when I was a young green lawyer. This man's sister was taking advantage of him financially because he had a disability benefit but it was a complex situation. An education for me.
Yeah it seems like we may become a wegovy nation. I could sure see WW making a project of it. DD and others keep us posted. Those days of not feeling hungry are a fond memory. I just ate a chicken sandwich which would have been unthinkable 10 years ago. Now it is making me want a nap. No clue how in years past I used to eat a big lunch and go back to work.
Cheers. Diane S
As we learn more about the role hormones play in weight gain/loss I wonder if these drugs will become part of post WLS treatment plan? My clinic is now operating on the duh, some of the hormonal benefits of surgery subside, and that's why there is regain. (Not that people failed). I think restriction is also a big help, but definitely felt increased hunger around 5 years out.
