Good morning! What fun to wake up and see photos of Shirl and Liz's meet up. I hope there comes a day when we could all have a TT meet up. It would be incredible!!!

Woke up at 6am, but fell back asleep, and got one more REM cycle done, because I work up again at 8:30. I feel good! Reading the paper and drinking tea.

We are going to a birthday this afternoon. Luckily it's friends who are used to my stages of eating very little, so they won't be alarmed or offended if I just nibble.

It seems incredible that I am getting appetite suppression from the lowest dose. I would chalk it up to placebo affect, but, in my reading reviews etc that is a possibility. It does seem like a wildly "your mileage will vary" kind of medication. There are people getting sick on the lowest dose, and people who feel nothing at all until the get to the 3rd month of the dosing schedule.

It started raining here on Friday evening. I do enjoy a good thunderstorm, especially cozy in bed Saturday morning, but time for sun. Looks like it's starting to clear.

CC, did you get any "feedback" from your blood sugar monitor?

My little monitor took about 24 hours to stabilize (lots of false low blood sugar readings yesterday morning), but now I think is giving correct information. They give you tasks every day. Today they had me do a glucose drink calibration test - drink a glucose drink and watch the results over two hours with no other food or drink. It was 50g of glucose, the equivalent of a 3 Musketeers bar. My glucose went from 96 (what it was when I woke up) to 264, then dropped to 69. They use the information to change your optimal blood glucose range for weight loss. So after the test, my top end of "weight loss range" went from 120 to 110. A down adjustment means your body handles glucose well, so that's good? Along the way, they teach you how to avoid spikes. You can log your food and they will predict your reaction and suggest changes. Or when you have a spike, they might suggest a walk to bring your blood sugar down (I hadn't realized that was a direct effect thing for blood sugar).

So, so far it's interesting and I don't notice it stuck to my arm. I'm sure I will learn a thing or two!

I volunteered yesterday to help little kids make pompom sheep at the library with my neighbor. It was fun. Kids can be a hoot.

I also walked the 2.25 mile route through my neighborhood. I think I have dinner at my other neighbor's tonight, but I so don't trust my calendaring skills right now, especially since I put dinner at 11am! I texted for clarification as I don't really remember the conversation that sadly was only 24 hours ago. Argh. I might be losing my marbles as I also thought to wish my friend a happy mother's day today and she informed me it's next week. Can we blame the sugar drink?

I think that's all I've got. Just blood sugar and lost marbles...

Take care all!

PS - loved seeing the pictures of Liz and Shirley!

Ah, the best laid plans..... My wonderful, relaxing, no dog show weekend has ended up being devoted to my dad. Started yesterday morning with a trip to the pharmacy for pain meds for his leg. Not sure why a doc would prescribe Percocet to a 93 year man with dementia over the phone, but he did. I brought to my dad. He took one. I made sure he was set for the day, ordered his meals to be delivered to his apartment, etc... and took off. Checked in on him at 5:30 and 7:30. At 8:32 I got a call from the assisted living folks that he had fallen and was in severe pain. Paramedics were on their way. I met him at the ER. So, not only did he lose his balance and fall getting into bed (I'm blaming the Percocet.... it's convenient, after all...), he landed on his hip with such force that the blow damaged his hip replacement femur head. So he has a break and a femur head that needs to be removed and redone with a new femur head. Not an easy surgery for a 93 year old. He is being transferred to a surgical hospital that has joint replacement specialists today or tomorrow. He also takes Plavix to thin his blood since his strokes and they want to wait for that to clear his system prior to surgery. It's going to be a long few days for him.

I had such plans for food prep today, too. Damn, damn, damn.... but we gotta pay it forward and I am a strong believer in "family first". So, off I go to be a good son!

LOVED seeing the pics of Shirl and Liz on TT.

Oh, Devon, I'm so sorry to read about your dad! Falls are so scary at that age as is surgery. Breaks my heart. As if you two don't have enough to manage already!

My brother is cruising the Mediterranean, so I'm flying solo on this one!

OMG - I am so sorry about your Dad and I absolutely agree with you that it likely was the Percocet. What was that doctor thinking???? I hope all goes well but surgery and especially anesthesia can really cause problems for people with dementia. But it has to be done. My grandmother broke her hip in her late 90's, when she had some dementia, and she did okay though it took time to reorient her. I hope the same happens with your Dad. I will be thinking about your Dad and you.
