A lot going on in your world. Lots of challenges and potential worries. Good luck with DH on Wegovy. No Medicare prescription plans cover it - not because there isn't enough but because it is for weight loss. And yet the medical insurance I have would cover Bariatric surgery.

Greetings all

It's nice and sunny for the moment. I have the urge to go to the hardware store to get some epoxy for my art work (gluing ceramic figures on stainless steel wine stoppers) and a grab bar. I want DH to put a grab bar by the 3 steps from our garage into our home. I am always grabbing on to the door handle to step up when I am carrying bags of stuff into the house. Good place for a grab bar since there is really no place for railing.

And yay for me. I did a short time on the treadmill just now. My legs are jello and I really need to move it or lose it. Treadmill is boring but I can turn the tv on plus hold on to handles so I don't feel like I am going to fall. Everybody nag me to keep it up.

DD hope your DH does well with wygovy. (auto correct wants segovia)> We look forward to hearing how that goes.

I think my difficulty in moving around is muscle loss after WLS and failure to regenerate any muscle tone after weight regain. Yeah I should go to the gym and do some weight work but I just hate the 20 something trainers there who don't have a clue what it's like to be 71. Last I tried I explained why I cant do most arm upper body weights due to the condition of my hands and yet thats all they kept trying to make me do. Oh well. Will contemplate.

Thai food last night was great. Spring rolls with all those veggies and spicy peanut sauce. Love it. Wish there was a thai food truck nearby. This place is some distance.

Liz I did not realize how close your new place is to the soon to be old one. Excellent. You can do bocce ball AND kayak. People sea kayak here but it looks to scary to me - even in the bay. There is a charity fund raiser here where people jump into Humboldt bay which is about 55 degrees! No thanks.

CC good luck putting those chairs together. Love Adarondack chairs. We have a couple but they are just molded plastic. Hope it does not take too many tools. I like chairs where my butt sits low. Comfy.

Walking on the treadmill forced me to look at the back yard. Weeds taking over again. Need to call the clean up guy.

Remaining Thai food tonight.

Still no hatch on the two eagles nests with eggs. But the other pair that lost its first clutch is seriously nesting again. Diane S

Yeah for using the treadmill!! Again, I am working out very moderately. I am really surprised how fast I saw improvements once I was doing workouts with some consistency. (mostly 35 minutes 3times a week). And you've got your treadmill right in the house, that's awesome.

I don't get trainers not understanding your grip issues. Its not that difficult to process. Anyhow, for the fitness level I reached after my extended illness this fall, I just needed to start moving again, nothing fancy. One of the things I like about the recumbent bike is I can set a level of resistance on the bike so that I am asking muscles to push while I am getting some cardio. I am focusing most of my efforts on my lower body right now because I wanted to improve the distance and pace I could walk. And that's where the biggest muscles are, maybe I could get a little metabolism boost? But again, I just need to keep moving with some consistency, I'll worry about more challenging, balanced workouts later.

I found this in a study on losing muscle mass when on calorie restricted weight loss with vs without exercise. Seems to say that excursive alone is the best method for weight loss but its not realistic so a combined approach is best. DS

Results from the present study show that modest weight loss from calorie restriction reduces total and lower extremity lean mass and absolute aerobic capacity. In contrast, the same amount of weight loss induced by exercise did not alter lower extremity lean mass and increased aerobic capacity. Although weight loss induced by calorie restriction or exercise has numerous benefits, these findings suggest that exercise may be preferable to CR, at least from the viewpoint of optimizing lean mass and VO2max. However, the amount of exercise needed to cause weight loss was substantial (7.4±0.5 hr/wk) and may be unrealistic for many overweight individuals with a history of being inactive. Furthermore, less exercise is required to achieve a given amount of weight loss if it is combined with calorie restriction. Therefore we sought to determine if more modest amounts of exercise (4.4±0.5 hr/wk), when used in combination with CR, would prevent decreases in lean mass and aerobic capacity. Indeed, with matched weight loss, the combination of calorie restriction and exercise attenuated the reductions in lean mass and aerobic capacity that occurred with CR. The lean mass losses in the CREX group were approximately half of that observed in response to CR and reductions in VO2max were fully prevented. However, as compared to the combination of CR and exercise, weight loss induced by exercise alone yielded greater benefits, as evidenced by complete preservation of lower extremity and whole body lean mass and increases in VO2max. Taken together, these findings indicate that exercise protects against weight loss-induced reductions in lean mass and absolute aerobic capacity when used alone or in combination with CR.

During the weight loss phase, after WLS, I did full body workouts faithfully because I was really concerned about this very thing: that I would lose too much muscle. This study just makes sense to me.
