Changing the time stinks and I don't see the point! Only the dog will be happy because he gets to eat an hour earlier.
Yesterday I had panic attacks when trying to snorkel. I tried twice but couldn't get past it. It has happened before but usually I can get over it. I think it was because the water was rough and kept bouncing me around too much. It was a nice boat ride and Mike and his DS really enjoyed it but I was embarrassed. We are supposed to snorkel again in a couple of weeks and of course that is a big activity in Tahiti so I need to figure out how to manage it.
Last night around 9 a water main broke here in the Keys so we have had no running water since then. No coffee, no showers, no water to flush the toilet with. The current alert says it won't be back on until 11:30 am. Not fun. We were supposed to go out for brunch prior to dropping Mike's son off at the airport but that likely won't happen since restaurants can't function withou****er and supposedly everything from mile marker 90 south is affected (we are at mile marker 23).
Not enjoying the day so far... Have a safe Sunday!
Good morning all ! Not a fan of the time change either ! It is rainy and gloomy here today. Last night, friends had an open house with ~25 people with corned beef, cabbage, carrots and potatoes. He had two huge pots going ! Yummy ! I managed to try the Irish soda bread after the protein and veggies, so didn't eat so much of that. I'd love to have a piece with coffee this morning. I'm walking a 5K on the 25th, so working on my endurance and stamina for that. I have a St. Patrick's Day hat decorating party tonight.
DD, those job cut days are rough on everyone ! Our building administrators knew the "hit list" and our Superintendent would personally deliver the news. We had floating subs to cover teachers were too distraught to return to their classrooms. It sounds like a wise choice not to continue the visit to your mom's. Diane, glad to hear you are not under water ! That Japanese BBQ sounds good ! I found tomato cheese pie at my hippie dippy store yesterday. Peps, "excavating the past" is difficult but worthwhile. A friend of mine is waiting for her breeder to "puppy match". The pups are just starting to show their personalities and she is considering therapy dog training, which I encouraged her to share with the breeder. CC, loved the photo of you, your Dad and his wife ! BB... FIVE years old ! It doesn't seem possible. Liz, hope the water main break is fixed soon ! It sounds silly, but you may want to try wearing a snorkel on dry land to get used to the rhythm and feel of the breathing. Shirl, you are having the adventure of a lifetime ! I am loving your posts !!

A large portion of my past snorkeling has been starting from the beach. I think it allowed me to get used to being in the water. Yesterday was much choppier than any previous snorkeling. Quite a few people commented that they kept getting water in their masks and that it was difficult fighting it. I wonder if I had inflated the vest more if that would have made me feel more comfortable (I never have in the past)?
Theoretically the water main was fixed 45 minutes ago but we still don't have water. Interesting how being in the Keys means only 1 water main the entire length! We figured how how to flush the toilet with a bucket of water and got drinking water from the store. Who knew we had to be prepared for no water when there is no bad weather!
Liz, maybe you don't have a problem with snorkeling, maybe it really was not a good place/setting for snorkeling that day. And it was brave of you to keep on trying. I get freaked out when water gets in my mask, and its hard to relax if you think choppy water is going to splash into your tube. So too much water when you're snorkeling, and not enough water when you get home!
Ocean Diane all of your St. Patrick's Day activities sound so fun. Yes, I bet your days as admin on the lay off days were heartwrenching. In our district, each building principal gets the task. Must be doubly difficult when it's a teacher you want to keep, but budget cuts say otherwise.
I feel like I'm in groundhogs day. Overcast again, with snow flurries, extended forecast offers no hope for a sunny day, maybe a few peaks on Wednesday. Forecast does predict more snow flurries. Yeah. Trying very hard not to be pulled into lethargy.
DH had the Shingles shot, and it made him sick, body aches headache etc. I need to get this vaccine also, but it's not looking too appealing. Several others we know had some reaction to it. I do very well with flu shots and all of the Covid vaccines, so I'm hoping it won't hit me too hard. Anyone else get this vaccine? How did it go.
We are going to a concert tonight, something to look forward to. I can start the countdown to Texas pretty soon, so glad that's coming up soon. Counting on southern Texas to be warm and sunny the first week of April.
Like Peps, I had no reaction to the Shingles vaccine, nor have I with most others (except the first COVID one but I had COVID prior to that). All our bodies react differently I guess.
LOL to: "too much water when you're snorkeling, and not enough water when you get home". The water came on just as we were leaving for Key West for bunch and to drop off Mike's son at the airport. We called ahead to make sure the restaurant had water/was open.

I vanished for a bit, sorry! First we had a trip to the Grand Canyon, which despite being in the 30s and raining (and us not being prepared because the weather we'd looked at the day before said it would be in the 50s), it was a lot of fun.
As we pulled out of the driveway, a balloon was landing right in front of my driveway. I didn't get a picture because I didn't want to get blocked in and just snuck by. We did get stopped by another out on the road. They are out in full force right now. We saw 8 the other morning.
We went to Bearizona first in Williams - a drive through zoo where you drive into areas with wolves, bears, bison, bighorn sheep, etc. wandering around your car. Kind of fun, but expensive for the experience. Not sure I need to do it again, but glad to have done it once.
Then up to the GC. Because of the weather it was not at all crowded. Isn't it nuts how fake it looks? Like a spaghetti western backdrop. Awe inspiring! We bought our cheap-at-10-times-the-price hats in a gift shop and that made it bearable to be outside. We walked around the village along the wall overlooking the canyon (tons of ice on the path because of the snow) and then had lunch at El Tovar with a great seat by the fireplace and the window overlooking the canyon. Then we stopped in Tusaysan on the way out to see the IMAX GC movie on the 6 story screen. Such spectacular camerawork, but man, IMAX makes me motion sick! And it wasn't even 3D...
The next night, I was rolling over at about 2am and pulled a muscle or pinched a nerve in my neck. Not sure which, but like fire running up my neck on the left and under my skull. Feeling a but better today, but still can't turn my head either way. But I am back to being able to lift my arms. Argh. Maybe I need to prioritize exercise.
My folks are starting their drive home tomorrow. It'll be the first stretch of time I've really been alone in my house! It's been really nice having them here. They are good houseguests who paid for almost all groceries and dinners out and did all the dishes. So nice!
I think that's all the catch-up I have! Hope you all are well. Liz, I find snorkeling difficult too. Hard to force myself to breathe calmly with my face underwater.
We stayed for 2 nights in El Tovar last year (and ate dinner one night). Darn neck and shoulder pains. Enjoy being on your own in your beautiful home!
