Happy New Years Eve! I had a really lovely evening with a pre celebration at a cozy wine bar with an outstanding musical duo. Their closing song was Purple Rain. If you want to get a bunch of gen x and younger boomers lit in Minneapolis, play Purple Rain. It's our anthem. As we were leaving, I thanked them for making a 60 something year old remember what it felt like to be 22 for a moment. :)

Tonight we are going to a smallish NYE party at our friends mother's condo. Back in the day, his parents hosted an epic party (beginning in 1999), that we attended every year. Our kids were so little when the tradition started. Our friends Dad passed away just before Covid, and when partying resumed his mother didn't want a big party anymore. We're all fine with that, well we, DH and I are, because we made the cut to the more intimate party of about 20 :) . Because of us, so did BFF. But her invite is clearly connected to us. This morning our friend texted us, because BFF texted him to let him know she was bringing her nephews too. WTH??? Our friend had to tell her no, remind her again it was in his mother's apartment, not a party room, and only people specifically invited could be accommodated. I apologized to our friend, BFF does stuff like this all the time, her boundaries are ridiculous. So now her nephews have traveled from out of town, it will be interesting to see if BFF ditches them and shows up at the party, or if she bows out and does something different with them. She has organized a brunch tomorrow for us and her son's family, maybe I'll see her nephews then. It's always something.

Despite BFF drama, which is all on her, I'm looking forward to another fun evening and welcoming a promising new year. 2023 bring on all the beauty and joy our hearts can hold!

Happy New Year's Eve!

Cold and dreary here, but the fog on the hills is pretty. We're making lobster tails for dinner and staying in. No doubt I'll be in bed by 9:30! Lots of football still. Ugh. I need to stop complaining about it. It's not going to change anything and just makes my dad feel bad, but jeez. I think there is football today from 2pm to 10pm! And let's not talk about tomorrow...

I made a Jamie Oliver One Pan Wonders meal last night. https://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/fish-recipes/upside-down -fish-pie/ Delicious! Fish pies are ubiquitous in the UK and I love them, but you don't see them much here. I do love experimenting with new dishes and it's way more fun to cook for others.

I'm working on organizing my closet. What a chore! But a necessary one. The thing that kills me is how little of it fits right now. Argh.

Anyway, Happy New Year to all! Let's hope 2023 is wonderful for us!

Sports in general are not my thing, so I feel your pain. DH loves to watch WW2 stuff. I mean, he knows how it ends right? You really do need your own TV lounge so you can enjoy your shows.

Greetings all

Well it's not raining today. It has poured from time to time over the past few days so today is nice. DH is off on a shopping mission so I get to watch tv in the day time. Guess what CC, I am watching football! I do like college football and this is the last of the season. But sometimes I think liking football is a sign of an aging brain. As a younger person I was indifferent. Part of it is because I am a Nebraska alum and it's such a big deal there. I expect to get a call from studio buddy today wanting to come watch games . Beats housework. Enjoy the lobster.

DD hope the party is fun and BFF doesn't mess it up. Good on your family member for saying no. People who impose are one of my pet peeves - like showing up unannounced or calling early or late. Thats getting to be an issue with DH's 83 year old friend who is so computer impaired. He was the one having a tantrum here the other day talking to the phone company. He was complaining about the company having poor service and said that it probably was run by a bunch of lawyers. As a retired lawyer I am getting weary of people who trash my profession so I told him it was likely run by a bunch of therapists! (his profession). So today he calls to appologize and then inform us he is coming over soon to make this and other calls again. I think I will be absent.

Gallery duty yesterday was kind of slow but we did get customers. The fog was thick by the end of the day and made driving home an adventure. I don't like driving in the dark anymore and am glad we are going to shorter winter hours in January.

Li glad you are back in the warm zone. Hope the sinus thing clears up. I too don't do well with dryness and heating.

Pot roast tonight. I may turn it into soup by cutting stuff up and adding broth.

Old Chip is pestering me and wants some lunch. I will get it for him in furtherance of my career as a dog valet.

Cheers all and stay safe tonight. Diane S

I remember being in Lincoln Nebraska on a college game day, it was an interesting cultural experience! The whole city was full of Red Ns. Even in the grocery store, a bucket of white carnations with red felt Ns glued on them. Gopher games don't hit quite the same in Minneapolis, I think, because we have the Vikings. Still fun on U of M campus though.

Good for you pushing back on the lawyer bashing. Not cool.

Yep Husker game day in Lincoln is an intense experience. The stadium is astonishing! But there are no pro teams so it's all there is. DS

He's like a football savant. He can tell you where every pro player played in college, where every college and pro coach used to coach, etc. so he's sharp, but I don't understand how you can watch it for 10 hours straight... He shows the same singular-focused dedication looking at his iPad, though, so it's not like he hasn't set a precedent!

Yeah, with the majority of my life being married to a lawyer the negative comments and jokes get to be a bit much. Also the insurance ones since I worked in insurance for 40 years.

I never pressed submit this morning - busy day LOL.

BFF really doesn't get boundaries does she? She is lucky to have you.

Quick post as we have to entertain our guests (still). It is nice and warm (actually humid) here. My Sinus infection seems to be dissipating though it usually takes a few days to fully clear.

Today we have 7 pm reservations for a special NYE dinner at the Beach Club. We were invited to a neighbor's home afterwards but aren't going since our friends are here.

Happy New Year! Talk to you next year!
