Good morning! One more week with my house guest. I am so so thankful I made some boundaries around what was becoming an untenable situation.

Off to meet up with some HS friends, then I'm hoping to go shopping. I've decided my winter clothes are starting to look a bit worn and need an injection of a few new pieces to perk them up. I'm tired of trying to guess what might work by ordering online, but never seem to have time to actually shop in person. Maybe this afternoon. If not, I think Wednesday. Finding time is one challenge, finding stores that actually have any inventory of interest is another. It used to be there was plenty I wanted to buy, but I had no discretionary income. Now I have some spending money, but can't find the goods! Definitely first world problems. : )

You know it is so difficult to know what some things will look like on but it seems like online is the only way to get a decent selection. I remember when MIL got to the point that she couldn't shop for shoes but hers were falling apart. That was the first time I ordered a bunch of choices/sizes knowing that I would be returning the ones that didn't work. Now it seems like most online shoe stores and maybe a lot of clothing stores have free shipping/returns to make it easier to shop that way. Still a pain and I know the shipping cost is built into the price but that may be where we are heading?

More later. Off to golf.

Have a super Sunday!

I agree Liz. It helps if it's brands you already have some familiarity with. I know what size I wear in Chicos pants, more or less, or converse sneakers for example. And returns are pretty easy on Amazon... Still would like to shop in person. for some pieces though. Sigh.

This morning's chores were cleaning grasses out of one of the fountains (I can see that is going to be a very frequent task) and sweeping more debris out of the outdoor kitchen. Both seem to be places where leaves, grass, dirt and bug carcasses seem to gather. Yuck.

I also waxed the top of an antique chest I had brought from my dad's old house, but lost steam waxing the rest. Maybe a side a day will be the plan. I would have made a lousy Victorian housemaid. I would have fired on day one for sloth...

I need to go buy some lightbulbs today. It used to be easy to pick the wattage and know how bright it would be. These days I always end up with dim bulbs because wattage no longer tells you anything! Or I end up with the wrong "color" and everyone in the room looks sallow and sickly.

Tonight we should get some snow. And tomorrow will start the floor cleaning/polishing/sealing saga.

Food hasn't been awful, so that's good!

Hope you all have lovely days!

What I so dislike about the new fluorescent and LED bulbs is not only the color and wattage issues, but the fact that they DON'T last as promised. Sure the LED component works forever, but the connections and other parts of the bulbs don't! So, you pay a premium for an energy efficient bulb that is supposed to last for years and if you are lucky you get two years out of it. Just my two cents....

i have painted the outside of the bulbs with amber colored paint to color correct. It works well, but....

I'd kill for some incandescent warm whites again!

I agree completely on lightbulbs! I had bought one of those vintage looking bulbs which are clear and the filaments show for the new kitchen light but it was LED and looked awful! Too bright and so fake looking. I was able to get a decent one at another store and what a difference.

Now you've named my other shopping struggle: light bulbs! I too miss incandescent light.

We had a nice visit with HS friends who have had a more VIP life than me. Like Amy Koblachar is part of their social circle. Some of us are movers and shakers, some of us, like me, change the world through small acts. I am happy with my place and my life, but it's fun to hear their stories, and occasionally get invited to their parties.

I came home, DH took a nap, and, feeling some left over nostalgia after hours of reminiscing, I played some of my old albums from Brazil, while I read the paper. Here I sit, well into my 62nd year, but how easily music can transport us back to our younger selves. Suddenly, I am 18 again, and remembering all those wild emotions of 18, probably heightened by the fact I was far from home, and feeling them in Portuguese!

Of course when a group of people in their 60s get together, the talk turns to retirement, and will you snowbird, and if yes, where? Someday.... Until then, there seems to be more than enough to amuse me right now ...

Wrapping up Sunday, feeling okay about my weekend food consumption. Weirdly, easier to eat better on the weekend lately. Less stress I think. Here comes another week, let's go get it!

Cuddle with Chip as much as you can. I'm sure it is a great comfort for both of you.
