Black Friday 2022
It seemed like everyone had a more or less successful Thanksgiving? DD, I hope your Mom is okay. I posted a picture of Thanksgiving with Mike's family on TT.
The food ended up being delicious. Maybe because I wasn't looking for a repeat of my traditions?
It turns out that my Washington state based brother drove to Florida with a woman friend this week and is staying about 10 minutes from we are. What are the odds? We are meeting them for breakfast tomorrow morning after we clear out of the house here. Then we will drive south to Englewood and visit with Mike's friends and their son. I probably mentioned them in the spring after their adult son suffered a horrific motorcycle crash. They were in Massachusetts with him from May when the accident happened until a couple of weeks ago when they made it to Florida driving in an RV. The son is still undergoing extensive rehab and I think may have some more surgeries ahead, but he is getting used to a new, fancy prosthesis for his missing left-hand which is supposed to be quite miraculous. His survival and recovery has actually been a miracle. His parents are just starting to be able to breath.
Time to think about taking a walk, then beach for the day, and out to dinner with everyone in Sarasota.
Have a successful Black Friday (if you are a Friday after Thanksgiving shopper)!

Lazing under my covers, in bed, watching a local news/talk show while drinking my chai latte. It always feels so luxurious when I can do this. DH is doing his regular part time shift 7-12, so he'll be home before anything really gets going. He is also going to work tomorrow morning as a favor to his manager. I was a bit hmmm, I thought we were done with Saturdays, but he pointed out the kids will hardly be up and moving by the time he is back ...
My parents did end up coming to Thanksgiving. I'm sure my Mom wakes up every day feeling not good, and felt overwhelmed by having to get ready to leave the house. After she ate breakfast, sat up, called me multiple times, she decided she could attend. I'm glad they did, both of them need the opportunity to socialize. My BFF dropped off food I'd packed, and some from her family celebration, so now they have some treats and different choices than the 12 bean soup my Dad thinks they can live on.
After all that my Mom asked me if I want to go on an Alaskan cruise with them. (Long story, but they have Princess Cruise Line vouchers from pre Covid time that are expiring). I just said sure. No point in saying Mom you can barely manage to travel 65 miles, you are not flying to Vancouver and going on a cruise. If it makes her happy to plan the trip, let her have it. I think. I hope it's the right thing to do, to go along with it... no money will be lost because the vouchers are already non refundable and expiring, so that money is gone either way, if we actually got to the stage of buying airline tickets, I'd insist they buy fully refundable ones....
Liz, your friends have been through it and back. These prosthetics are indeed amazing. My limited understanding is that there is now a way to imbed sensors that can transmit signals from existing nerves to the computerized circuits, so when the person thinks to reach, the message flows from their body to the circuits of the prosthetic. Just amazing. People can use a prosthetic hand to open a lid on a jar. When you think about how complex a movement that is, it seems we are in the age of medical miracles.
Happy to hear you enjoyed your Thanksgiving, and embrace the way Mike's family celebrates. Holiday traditions can run very, very deep, so that is no small deal to say, this is different, but it's still good. I think the biggest fights DH and I ever had were around holidays when we were first married.
Not much planned for today (yeah!!!). DS is leaving for the night, he has a DJ gig in Illinois. (It's something he loves doing, but will never make a living at, so he has small and medium gigs where he earns enough to cover his costs) He'll be back tomorrow afternoon, and then stay with us until Tuesday. DD, DH, BFF and I are going to see Knives Out in the theater this evening.
I always stay away from the stores on Black Friday. If you do venture out, good luck!

We went to the one little cute store in town and the line was 20 deep to check out so we left! That sums up my Black Friday...
I did have my favorite post Thanksgiving turkey sandwich for lunch. Turkey on white bread with a lot of mayo and salt and a new addition this year - French fried onions left over from making the green bean casserole. Oh my heavens so good on a sandwich! Sounds gross written out, but it's my favorite sandwich of the year!
It's super sunny here. I'm supposed to go meet up with MI guy (who I have grown to loathe the last year) for board stuff. but he's MIA after suggesting it in the first place.
Nothing else happening here. Hope you all are well!
Apparently he didn't change his spots!

I do not do Black Friday shopping. I can think of nothing worse! LOL! My shopping days are long behind me. It is not an activity I enjoy unless I have a goal in mind.
Diamond D, I am glad your mom was able to make it. After my dad left with his girl friend my SIL remarked how much my dad has changed over the past year. I guess I really had not taken stock of how significant all the changes have been: no longer driving, unable to shop without help, doesn't do any of his own banking and bill paying, and is having trouble navigating everyday tasks - especially in the kitchen. He was an avid baker of a German Christmas cake called Stollen. This year he hasn't been able to manage because he can't figure out how to use some of his kitchen tools (eg unable to figure out the measuring spoons that are so old they aren't clearly labeled). He made two and apparently they didn't turn out. He seems to be taking it all in stride, but I think he must understand his decline on some level. My brother doesn't think my dad is terribly aware of the changes. Me, i'm not so sure.
Food yesterday was traditional Thanksgiving fare. My only complaint was that the green beans were so over cooked they were yucky to me. They were "diner" style is the only way I know how to put it.... At least they still had color and were not diner gray. I really only ate one full meal yesterday. I had a little breakfast sandwich around noon and then a modest plate of Thanksgiving dinner around 4. I didn't even fini**** So, clearly my sleeve still has its limits. Weight this morning was down a few tenths of a pound.
Sleep is satisfying with the THC, CBD, CBN gummy.
CC, I think you should just kick MI guy in the nuts - literally! Just the thought of gentle you walking up and letting him have it just cracks me up! It fantasy fodder! I know you'd never, but it's horribly fun to imagine!
Auntie Kathryn just invited me to go shopping with her so I can make sure she doesn't over spend. My reply was a resounding NO! No retail on Black Friday.
Happy Turkey hangover day to all!
I am right with all of you about shopping on Black Friday. No thank you!
With that said, Mike has a dinner reservation for the 9 of us at a restaurant located in a retail area of Sarasota. Parking may be a challenge especially since we have to take 2 cars.
