The book Diane S. recommended, "Your Money or Your Life", sounds like it would be good reading for anyone in the second half of life. I just saw on FB that one of my deceased eldest daughter's friends just retired at the age of 50. Good for him!
Mike and I were up until about midnight last night listening to music, talking and drinking wine. We are a bit slow today, but it is well worth it. Another advantage of being retired. Any day can be a weekend day.
We did take our usual walk this morning and I put together a bench for the front entryway. Next on the agenda is floating in the neighborhood pool, our last bocce match at 4, then I am cooking chicken piccata tonight. A fairly low stress day.
Justice seems to be in fine shape today, but I was worried last night. He went flying across the great room toward the lanai apparently thinking the sliding glass door was open and smashed into it knocking himself off his feet. He was shaking like a leaf for a bit, though a couple of bites of our steak revived him and he doesn't seem to have any after affects. It was scary though a bit amusing at the same time (once we knew he was ok).
Have a theatrical Thursday!

Walking (let alone running!) into a glass door is so surprising and painful! Surpainful? Painprising?
Another night wide awake at 3. Do you remember in Amityville Horror how the guy always wakes up at 3:33AM? Runs through my head every time... I finally got out of bed at 6. I have to meet the propane tech at my new house sometime today, but they couldn't tell me when. The rub is, it's a 45 minute drive thanks to 25-35 mph speed limits. So they said to call this morning and they'd text the guy to find out when approximately he might show up. I figured best to be ready in case they said "now". So I called, they texted him, and here I sit waiting for a call back. There is something about this situation that hits all of my anxiety buttons! Early morning requirement to do something or be somewhere, not knowing timing in advance so I can plan, the drive time quandary, potentially making him mad if he gets there and I'm not there, waiting for a callback and hoping they didn't forget, plus the old owners are still there until Saturday (so an audience). I did give them a heads up about the propane meeting today, but still. Oh well.
Thanks for your nice comments about my hair! You all are so sweet. Today I was practicing getting the roots lifted a bit. I think it's better.
Food was good yesterday, but I didn't walk. At my old house, I would have just walked at night as it's well lit. It's super dark here with critters out there and no sidewalks, so nighttime walking isn't going to happen. I wish I could magically turn into morning person! An unrelated side-note, I cannot wait to move away from the next door neighbor's gorgeous goldens! They bark ALL THE TIME. We wouldn't let our dogs be barkers (if it was dinner/walk excitement, fine, but not at people walking by). It's rude to your neighbors to allow that. I never hear the owners even try to shush them.
Did I mention how 90% of my finger arthritis pain went away with the keto after several years of worsening pain? I guess less inflammation? If that's all that comes from eating like this, it's worth it!
Okay, off to anxiously twiddle my thumbs... have a great day!
I have not been absentia, just not much to post. But I suppose we all go through fits and spurts.
My weight is stable, albeit back at the top of my allowable range. I guess just the thinking about losing weight triggered enough of my eating disorder to gain 6 pounds back... Ugh... At first I thought it was jus****er/inflammation, but it seems to be here to stay, so I'm counting it as legit weight gain.
The eating season is upon us. For me, being a teacher, it starts in earnest this week with Halloween celebrations. it won't let up again until after the New Year. Then six weeks later all the Valentine chocolate will arrive... My plan for the eating season is to simply not gain. If I can find the mojo and ability to deal with my disordered eating, I'd even like to lose a few pounds over the next few months. Kind of have to put my toe in and see how the brain reacts. I have decided I really don't like this part of "recovery". It's really biting me in the ass. In other words, this part is HARD. It is these times when I realize how much work it is for me to manage my eating disorder that I fantasize about a revision surgery - you know the "turbo sleeve".... (a cross between a DS and a RNY).... So much easier at times to "ostrich".
Not much else... Workouts are going well, body aches (elbows, right wrist, left knee, lower back, hamstrings....) are constant... Have to schedule Shingle vaccine #2, get flu and covid booster. I may wait on the covid booster though. My immune system seems to be in overdrive with inflammation. I may wait until December or January to get the new booster on board.
CC, I'm excited for your move in!
Greetings all
Suns out today and it's almost hot. Just made a run to the store. Parking lot was packed I guess due to the farmers market they have, but no one seemed to be at the market. I was hoping to score a pot pie but no such luck. Just a deli "lost coast" reuben sandwich. No clue what that means but I hope it's not tofu.
So DH called his friend and got that huge area rug to the dump. I pitched a fit about it being rolled up across the living room. Hazard for this old lady. But now the grungy old carpet below is revealed. A large carper cleaning machine was delivered today. Cripes, I am going to get rid of carpet so why clean it. Another toy for DH.
Yeah the Money or Your Life book is an old one, written in the 70s. I saw it mentioned in a bar journal years ago. It's mainly about being economical and frugal and keeping track of stuff.
Years ago our dog Tiger ran through the screen slider, busting a big hole in it. He just didn't know it was there. Hope Justice is ok. Old Chip was galloping around the house last night in a frisky way and then promptly upchucked.
CC I am not surprised your cleaner eating plan decreases finger pain. I think a more alkaline diet is supposed to reduce inflammation of all types.
Some how I had a ton of unfolded laundry so that is done. Still trying to get the house picked up. I did get a bunch of wine today for the party. I got organic boxed wine since I just cant open the bottles anymore. I am familiar with the reds but not the white. At $30 it should be ok. And the top of the dining room table is almost visible!. Years ago I learned that the secret to entertaining is to get stuff all done ahead of time so you have at least 30 minutes to relax ahead of time. Makes a big difference. But DH is mr. put off until last minute. Oh well. He will probably be shampooing the carpet on Halloween.
YooHoo, DD hope you are feeling ok.
Cheers all. Diane S
