VSG Maintenance Group
Tuesday October 18, 2022
Time to shower and pack for our 2 day Portsmouth NH trip. It looks like the weather will more or less cooperate.
Yesterday's lunch with my former support group friends and dinner with other friends were fun - lots of catching up done!
I did miss Mike and Justice last night and this morning, but I slept well after getting up so early. It is so quiet here right now!
No thoughts about weight and food except that I need to do something about losing some! It is definitely the darn carbs. They just call to me!

I woke up freezing last night! It's in the 40s at night here now. I need to dig out some more blankets. The other thing is its dry and I keep shocking the heck out of myself on every metal surface. Really painful and you can see the sparks. I need to figure out if there's anything I can do to help with that. Any ideas? I suspect my slippers with the rubber soles aren't helping.
Food is still good and I walked 4 miles yesterday with a lot of uphill. I need to go buy more veggies today. Not my favorite, but important for fiber with no grains.
My dad is at Mayo for scans today. Fingers double crossed they don't see anything.
Hope everyone is having a good day!
Static!!! There is a product called Static Guard its a spray you can use on your clothes to reduce static, it does have a bit of an odd smell, but I don't think it lingers. Anyhow, it's meant to reduce static cling, but it also seems to cut down on the build up of stati****ep some at work to spray on my carpet between my desk and a file cabinet, and it helps to reduce all those unnerving shocks. Another strategy is to try to discharge the static deliberately by touching metal quickly before it builds up too much. I don't know how to describe it, but after awhile, you get a sense about which type of surface will hurt less... And fabric softner is a must... Sometimes I run my slightly damp hands over my sweater to cut the static, or even my hair...it gets super arid here in the winter... my bil swears by his whole house humidifier that is installed in his furnace. He said it solved a lot of problems.

"You get a sense of which type of surface will hurt less..." I was just at the grocery store and needed to open a freezer door and I KNEW that was going to hurt! It was so loud the person down the aisle audibly winced. I yelped! I will get right on fabric softener and Static Guard. I had a bottle to spray on my brushed during Santa Ana winds because my hair floats like that popular dog IG reel, but tossed it in the move as the can has rusted...
Patting yourself down with damp hands until you get static guard will help. It's crazy. Also fun when the static builds up in the shopping cart as the wheels go round, and you get periodic shocks just minding your own business while you're shopping. Watch out for carts where the plastic wrap around on the handle is broken or cracked!
Kids were kind of crazy and kind of needy today. Not every kiddo looks forward to a long break, some don't like the change in routine, some don't have much to look forward to at home.
We work tomorrow, training etc, but I can leave at 1:30pm and get to the airport to catch my flight to NYC.
Still not satisfied about my footwear choices. The shoes CC linked are just what I want but when I go to buy them I can't find my size, or something doesn't quite work. I have no trouble buying boots etc., but I guess when I think about it, I buy a lot of suede boots. Maybe I don't like the leather toe box? Anyhow, when I first start wearing close toed shoes for the season I apologize to my feet for having to endure captivity again.
I've been thinking about feeling older lately, and how I just don't bounce back like I used to. Is it age, is it the stress we all endured from the pandemic, is it carrying more weight? Today I was talking about whether I want to try and renew my license one more time, it expires when I'm 65. Will I really want to be trying to teach for $ in some capacity? Or can I just be done with that? DH says he thinks he wants to work part-time until he is 70. More power to him. I'm going to fulfill my promise to make it to 64, God willing, and then who knows. Maybe at 64, freed from getting up at 6am, I'll find I have plenty of bounce :)
I'm not thinking about food or weight until next week. Medication is still blunting my appetite, although I managed to eat some desserts this weekend just the same. Chili from Wendy's is on the menu tonight.

quick check in on the iPad. Got killed at scrabble today except for one game. Played more on line. It's addictive.
static! Dry climate indeed. In the Midwest with serious winter heating a humidifier was essential. Ditto dryer sheets. Not so much out here. Cc maybe you could keep a dryer sheet in your pocket at the store to help avoid electrocution. Some of your new friends might have ideas.
dd hope you get to retire when you choose. There is a book called "your money or your life" that I found useful in planning my professional escape. Old book, good ideas. Also a book called "the millionaire next door".
ate the last of the pizza tonight. Back to cooking hell tomorrow.
