Food is definitely a drug for most of us! Though it does seem like a few lucky ones are able to resist the pull. Soft baked goods are definitely my preferred version.
Now that we have ascertained that all my friends on the West coast of Florida are safe, the damage reports are coming in. The friend who had a heart attack last year and is living each day as a gift right now was so lucky that his mobile home in Venice sustained only minor damage. The porch roof and carport were ripped off but nothing more. Another friend in the same park had her roof ripped off and I am assuming that means that the inside would have been destroyed by water at that point. Seven homes in their park burnt down and many more were completely destroyed by wind. Another friend in Port Charlotte had only a couple of minor leaks into his house. A couple in Fort Myers had water run through their house but at a low level so feel that it is not too bad (at least compared to many others). We are currently scheduled to be on Anna Maria Island for the week of Thanksgiving. I believe things on that island should be okay but I may take a drive south that week to see my friends though I admit I am somewhat dreading seeing familiar places destroyed.
in other news, SIL with lung cancer started chemo yesterday and so far has tolerated it well. I sure hope that continues. I will see her in a couple of weeks when the 3 of us SILs take a short trip to Portsmouth NH.
Eating was pretty good yesterday (not too much), but I had a bit more wine than needed last night and didn't feel too well - possibly because I had it on an empty stomach. I need to not drink wine without food clearly.
Today I think we will go to the beach club but will have to sit at the pool instead of the ocean. Apparently the extreme high tide is bringing the water up to the base of the stairs and there are severe rip currents. But it is another gorgeous Florida day with low humidity so sitting by the pool with a view of the ocean beyond will be very enjoyable.
Have a sunny Saturday!

Saturday weather here is off to a glorious start, too! Though we are forecast to have high humidity.... Somehow i think that is incorrect. It sure doesn't feel humid!
We have a friend from Seattle staying here for the weekend with her dog. The dog is ready to be bred, so my poor boys are more than mildly frustrated, but they are being very well behaved. Ace will come this afternoon for the first breeding. I think we'll breed again tomorrow and be done with it so she can start her drive back to Seattle tomorrow afternoon. We have an appointment to check for hormone levels later today. That will tell us the route best taken.
Had a decent session with the nutritional counselor. Once again, it validated the depth of my eating dysfunctions. So at least today I find the difficulty I have/am having a little more tolerable and understandable. Anyhow, I finished the session feeling that I had to face some truths and deal with them.... Most importantly answering the question, "Do you really want to lose weight or are you just so programmed to believe that you want to lose weight that it is your mantra?" Am I happy being fat? Clearly eating has served me well in some deep rooted ways or why continue, right? Sigh....... Always something.....
Liz, I'm sure the devastation will be cataclysmic! But we humans are like moths to a flame when it comes to seeing this type of destruction. I remember "touring" the fire areas in the Oakland Hills in 1991. It was absolutely amazing to see how much burned and how bad it truly was. The news video didn't even come close to showing how completely desolate some neighborhoods were - completely burned out to the foundations... nothing but char and ash left.... Just horrific. Hard to believe that it's been over 30 years now.
In 2004, I stayed in my old development for a week about a month after Hurricane Charley struck at close to the same location as Ian. I was staying at a friends home as I didn't own there at that time. We drove around to see the damage and I also was shocked to see flattened mobile home parks and house after house without roofs (mostly on older homes with less stringent roof requirements than are in place now). It is one reason why I never considered buying a mobile home.

I no longer need to be thin. Since Tamoxifen, I am fat again, and I can feel it slowing me down. If this med can get me back to my pre cancer weight, I will be happy. That weight was 30 pounds above my lowest weight. It was fairly easy to maintain with room for indulgences. It was not thin, perhaps best described as pleasingly plump :) mobility felt good. I looked like most women my age. Being thin was lots of fun, but it came with a high price. I had made peace with the fact I didn't want to pay that price. I also don't want to pay the price this additional 23-27 pounds is extracting. They have to go somehow. Hence the bigger measures I'm trying now....

Doing laundry this morning and watching a British show where people with ancestors hung for murder have modern investigators and barristers review the cases to see if they can have their convictions posthumously overturned. You can tell from the barristers and the experts on their subjects, that there is a component of British education that teaches debate, being able to lecture, etc. that is missing from American educational systems. It's so interesting to listen to. And some is that in the US, this show would be produced to include a lot of unnecessary forced drama and cliffhangers between commercial breaks. This is so straightforward. It's on BritBox called Murder, Mystery, and My Family.
Pharmacy and a quick run into the grocery for coffee creamer are all I have to do today. Not sure what else I'll do. Maybe a walk this morning as it's in the 60s and sunny right now.
Okay, off to walk before I talk myself out of it!
Brit box has some really good stuff, but I feel maxxed out on the TV services I subscribe to.

Off to a long awaited wedding of a dear family friend! We've known the groom since he was 5 years old :) and his father is my husband's dearest friend, and also a dear, dear friend to me. Their whole family has become as we all say, "the family we choose". My husbands parents were both gone by the time he was 32, to be folded into this wonderful clan has been one of the greatest blessings, and filled some of those empty spaces. Looking forward to a joyous celebration. Time to go fuss with my hair.
Have a wonderful time! And you looked beautiful when I met you even if you feel larger than you would like.
