Smells bring back such memories don't they? My Dad was an Aqua Velva man which I am guessing doesn't exist anymore? He died when I was 12 but I always thought of him when I smelled it.
Sounds like your Dad didn't go to crazy with the chainsaw CC. I have a Ryobi Sawzall that I love and have cut down a lot of bushes with it in the past including arborvitae. Your Dad must feel like his strength is back anyway!
It is raining here and will be most of the time now for the next 3-4 days. So no long Justice walks. We will have some wind tomorrow and a very small threat of tornadoes, but it shouldn't be a big deal. I am worried more about friends on the west coast. Even with no damage, extended power outages can be miserable in Florida. We do have friends whose place is in a high rise building on filled land in Clearwater. Yikes! They aren't there luckily (are home on Cape Cod). I checked with them yesterday and they said their hurricane shutters are up so they aren't too worried, but it Clearwater gets a direct hit with a lot of storm surge it could be very bad.
That's the big news here. Everyone is talking about it and the news is full of updates. Home projects and movie watching are going to be the major entertainment for the next few days.
Have a timely Tuesday!

I head back to AZ later today. It's been a lovely trip and true to form, I never want to leave whichever place I am. Lucky me! And it's nice to see my dad feeling good and back to his old self again. Even in great shape, at 81 it's hard to bounce back quickly from health things.
I finally got a chance to meet with the contractor. We'll see if anything gets done this winter. If you know any good tradespeople who want to live in a beautiful place and never be short of work, please send them to northern MI! Too much work for too few people here and the ones who are good are booked up for a year in advance.
Yesterday I had a weird experience that I thought at first was my thyroid, but now I'm wondering if it was reactive hypoglycemia? I had frosted mini wheats (which can't help but have a lot of sugar/carbs with the fiber/fairlife milk) for breakfast and about 2 hours later suddenly my heart was racing (up to 121 beats per minute), I was very shaky, and sweating like I just ran a marathon even though it's chilly in my house. All of those are hyperthyroid symptoms, but that isn't something that comes on so fast and it doesn't go away like this eventually did. And thinking back, I've felt similar when I've had a sugar-laden breakfast with no protein and shrugged it off. It's never happened with loads of sugar alone at other times of the day. Hmm. Pure carb breakfasts are a bad idea for many reasons I think.
Okay, off to shower so I can put my towels in the washer...
Hoping the hurricane does minimal damage. I don't think I would like those!
CC this could indeed be sugar but please be careful. I had similar experiences and its diagnosed as tachycardia of a specific kind. I take a drug for it now and there are other treatments. So if it happens more get it checked out. DH has an Apple watch witch alerted him to some afib. Confirmed by doctor. Be safe. DS
Wow. This group is always a great source of information. Good to know that you should explore further CC, if it keeps happening, especially when not related to food. I know what you mean about sugary breakfasts though, just eating pancakes for example makes me feel so awful. If I have protein along with it, I'm okay. I've never had tachycardia though.
I'm with you. I can't do pancakes for breakfast either. I have to have protein and fat, if i am going to eat something like pancakes in the morning. I can eat them in the evening, but too much sugar during the day sends me in a spiral. I feel awful - lethargic, tingly, almost like I'm coming down with a cold. Eat eggs and ham prior to the pancake, I'm fine.
Loved the discussions about scents and the memories they evoke of people. I have a weird one : I'd never lived in a city until I did my exchange year in Brazil. Then I moved back to the US and moved to Minneapolis for college. The smell of rain on city pavement that fall made me desperately homesick for Brazil, the first place I had ever really smelled that particular combination of urban scent....
Shirl, I hear you on the weariness of having to always battle against regain. You are smart though, to look at it now, rather than wait for another 20 pounds.
Liz, I'm watching the hurricane news with a lot of feelings. Tampa/St. Petersburg is my target area if we are able to afford 2 homes... Hope your friends condo is unscathed.
CC, my Dad is a chainsaw carved as a hobby. You are right, they are accidents waiting to happen. He's been in an ambulance more than once being taken for stiches, since he's on comidin, so he was bleeding too much for us to drive him. I hope your Dad is more cautious. Most likely he will be, as my brother once said in despair, Dad, you are a careless, careless man. My Dad still likes to quote this. Used sensibly though, a chainsaw seems like a pretty much required tool for up north living.
I think I am finally recovered from the trauma of the weekend :) Last night I made my long drive to get my hair done, I think it looks great :) tonight I need to catch up on laundry and a few other things.

His favorite t-shirt says "In my defense, I was left unsupervised." Sums up his accident prone nature combined with trying stuff he shouldn't! And he's got "old skin". He walked into a doorway on the boat while it was moving and tore the skin off his arm that was covered by a sweatshirt. And you just look at him funny and he bruises those blood bruises thin skin gets...
Greetings all
Yep I had one grandpa who was Aqua Velva and the other Old Spice. Scent does indeed evoke memories. Rain on pavement is a good one DD. I used to live near a Kellogs factory and there was always a smell of toasting grain. The other day I was driving along and there was the smell of evergreens being pruned - sort of like a Christmas tree lot. Pumpkin spice got nuthin on the evergreen smell although fake evergreen smell is horrid. And years ago in Omaha there were the stockyards with their unique perfume. I am told the nearby town of Eureka used to be referred to as "Youstinka" because of the pulp mills that used to be there. They are all closed now but when we first moved here there was a sort of acrid chemical smell at times. Glad thats gone.
With the hurricane on the way Liz I bet you are glad you sold your west coast property. Wishing safety to all those going through this. Climate disaster seems on the rise.
Sat through a studio board meeting today. Good thing we are doing well financially, though no one but me would know otherwise since no one but me reads the statements. We did get new faucets in the studio sinks which was really needed. A studio member put them in for free.
I made a quick store trip and picked up everyday items. Found some deli chicken to feed DH tonight. Saved by the deli from cooking.
CC hope your contractor gets his act together. It is indeed hard to find good remodeling workers. I am still grateful every day for the bathroom remodelers and my neighbor fence fixer.
I was reminded of impending winter weather here (rain) by a zillion little muddy dog footprints all over the kitchen floor, which means even more mud is on the carpet. New floors needed.
Thats about it. Peace all. Diane S
