We just got back from our second to last Cape Cod beach walk (we can't walk on the beach with Justice in my town until after 10/1). I wish there was a place to walk with him on the beach in Florida but we would have to drive an hour to get to a dog friendly beach there.
Almost Labor Day! Enjoy your party Diane S. Seems like there aren't a lot of Labor Day parties in the Northeast though there are always July 4th parties and Memorial Day versions. Maybe it is because we are so sad about it marking the end of summer? They definitely have them in Florida at least in the areas we are familiar with.
Today we will have one last beach day here, then lobsters for dinner. We had them our first night here and will have them on the last. Mike wants to make sure the Ex-wife is cleared out of here from May 15 to October 15 2023 (this year it was July 1 to Labor Day). Maybe with that stipulation plus the 2+ months she will need to be out of the house during the winter while the bathroom is replaced will give her incentive to find a place. She is commuting 60-90 minutes each way to work from here (depending on traffic and time of day). If I were her I would rent a small studio apartment close to where I worked. She probably could have put off replacing her car this past year if she had done that. Mostly not my problem though.
Not much else to report - I ate sensibly at dinner last night. Tonight won't be terrible. Have a super Sunday!

Another long work day. I ate lunch (leftover pizza from last night" but didn't take a break per se. Tomorrow shouldn't be as bad. Of course the day that I get paid time and a half will probably be a short work day. Oh well, I have stuff to get done at home too.
The boy seems to be doing well with college life so far. Got some reading done and already wrote a paper and classes don't even start until Tuesday! I guess one professor just couldn't wait to give out a homework assessment!
Pot stickers for dinner tonight. A little boring but easy and pretty healthy. I don't think I've cooked a "real" meal since Wednesday! With the boy gone, there might be more of that! CC, I don't know how you do cooking for 1. I think cooking for just 2 will be a challenge especially since I hate most leftovers!
Hope everyone is having a great Sunday!
When we became empty nesters there were many nights I turned to DH and said, I'm having peanut butter toast for dinner, what are you having?
I do like leftovers though, so when I do cook, I bring them for lunch the next day. Same with restaurants, I love eating the rest of my meal the following day.
You hate leftovers! I only cook so there will be leftovers LOL.

Liz, I think inconveniencing the tenant is the way to go. If I were her, I'd feel so awkward about the whole thing, I'd move on, but clearly she doesn't live by the same rules (dignity?) that most do.
This morning DH and I were having coffee on the porch when SIL texted and asked if we wanted to come and have coffee at their house. DH is close with his siblings, but we don't usually do spontaneous things with them on the weekends because DH was always working. Bonus, my nephew and his wife and adorable Labrador stopped by. Great start to the day. Came home, read the paper, picked up the house a bit, ironed a few clothes in preparation for the work week. Disclaimer: I don't iron much, but there are a few things that need a touch up every so often.
As per usual, I'm getting nervous about the start of the school year. I just keep telling myself nothing can be as tough as September 2020 and 2021. Incoming students were in their 8th grade classrooms, albeit with masks for part of it, their whole school year. My students last year took months to adjust to school routines. It should go smoother this year.
Labor Day is always a bit melancholy. Since school always starts for students the day after, it really is the end of summer. I can hear kids playing in our neighborhood even after dusk most nights. Tomorrow will be a lot quieter. To confront the melancholy, I remind myself I had a great summer, and I have a lot of fun things to look forward to. It helps.
You had a great summer and once you get into it I am sure you will have a great school year. But it is always sad to feel that summer has ended for those of us who love the season.
