It is Thursday! I wish DD a good return to school. As the others have pointed out you have done an amazing job making the most out of your summer.

Diane S, I couldn't live here for a a long period, but for 1-2 weeks it would be pretty doable. This place sold a year ago for $145K and a 2 bedroom would go for about $200K. I would buy one if they allowed dogs. It would be a good investment as we could rent it out when not here. But alas, I need to have Justice with me. If I could find something comparable or maybe just rent a dog-friendly place here for a month next summer I might seriously consider it! When we decided to buy a vacation place in 2007, we talked a long time about getting a place here instead of Cape Cod (we rented here for many summer vacation trips). We didn't because of the travel distance which would have made it difficult to come for weekends only and because we didn't think the kids would come when in their 20's (there isn't any night life). But we are at a different point in life and it might be a more attractive, affordable escape from Mike's Cape home vs keeping my Cape home. But to make it happen I would have to stay vigilant in watching listings and be willing to potentially buy without viewing it because these tiny, older cabins go fast. I don't know if I could deal with that risk.

Musings over. Today we are repeating our boat ride with my friends only on a sunnier day. Tonight we are having dinner with them at their home. Mike and my friend Jim have gotten along really well which pleases me. And Mike loves the serenity of this area too.

Have a thoughtful Thursday!

Day off today and DH has off too. They have been down a person for almost 2 months now. This week he is working 76 hours! Yuck!

We we're going to go kayaking today but it is very overcast and rain predicted. I will go with some girlfriends on Saturday while he is sleeping!

Will probably go to our favorite sushi place and then to a outdoor Christian concert at a local park, weather permitting.

Have to color my hair, go grocery shopping, make a fried ice cream dessert for our "Mexican " potluck at work tomorrow and have an eye exam. My days off fill up fast. I need to retire! Unless CC wants me to be her assistant! I could get used to her view!

Maybe CC could have rotating assistants amongst us ;)

Another long day for me yesterday! Full day of teaching (6 periods), then switched schools for the "instrument petting zoo" for 4th and 5th graders to try out band instruments. Got home at 6 pm. Played with dogs and puppies and drank half a diet Squirt and hopped into the van to drive to BFF's place to pick up recliners I had "given" him from GOAT 2.0 that I needed to put back in before selling it on Saturday. Grabbed some dinner with BFF and got home around 9 pm..... In bed b y 11:15.....

I am currently "babysitting" a 5th grade music class. (I'm just the warm credentialed body in the room to make this gathering legal! The other two teachers teach the class.) I get to go play with my Kindergarteners in 30 minutes... I love working with the littles!

Food/eating/compulsions are all in check. As mentioned earlier this week, my weight is back into my new lower normal and trending ever so slowly downward. I keep threatening to focus more on Weight Loss, but I'm enjoying life in so many other ways that being fat doesn't seem like such a big deal. Yet, I think my left knee would appreciate a little less weight to bear.

Working still on cleaning out GOAT 2.0. I'm silly excited about GOAT 3.0 - like a kid getting a new toy.... I don't remember feeling this way when I got GOAT 2.0.... Hope this is a good omen.

Happy Thursday!

Buyer's remorse set in hard last night!! I know the house is going to be great, but all the fears about having bought at a bad time, paid too much, shoulda, woulda, couldas etc. have all the blood constantly drained out of my face and limbs, ears ringing, nauseous, and I didn't sleep a minute last night. Logically I know if the value drops a lot, it will come back eventually and there is nothing I can do now so I need to let the worry go. But knowing that and doing that are very different things. My appetite is zero though, so I suppose that's an upside? Argh! It's moments like this where having a DH would be nice so I wasn't carrying the emotional and decision-making load of such a huge matter alone. Gah!! There is some comfort(?) in the fact that I get buyers remorse for just about everything big I commit to, so it's par for my personal course, but no less uncomfortable.

Peps, I love how excited you are about Goat 3.0. Send some of that major purchase excitement mojo my way!

DD, your summer was enviously fun. Good luck with your return to school!

Diane, that Nora things sounds very cool. May need to send that to Claudia for my dad. (Though he wears a CPap, sometimes it gets wonky on his face and stops doing its job or he takes it off).

Shirl, I hope you've kicked your cold to the curb!

I hope the anxiety will recede once you are in the house and can get excited about decorating it (and enjoying it).

Greetings all

I am still at home getting cleaned up for the mammogram this afternoon. Hair washing scheduled to allow air drying. Keeping tabs on the fence fixer though she needs no supervision. Enjoying the foggy calm day that is typical this time of year.

Another boat ride Liz. Sounds life fun. You make everything sound like fun. Good on you.

Speaking of un-fun, sorry CC that the house purchase details are stressful. But we know you know that in the long run it will be wonderful and worth it. That house is so fabulous you will never want to leave. To bad you have to go through yucky stuff to get to the treat.

Peps sounds like your new work and routine is a good one for you resulting in weight issues being less urgent. Seems like when life overwhelms us is also when we want to eat the kitchen. Yay for you for moving beyond that. And Yay goat 3 getting chairs.

So the Nora device is called Sleep Nora. No clue where DH got it but most likely amazon.

We had corn on the cob last night. Awesome and sweet. Tuna salad tonight.

Cheers.

Well, I did a lot of team building exercises, and learned a little about some technology things today. It was nice to see my co-workers.

CC, when do you close on your house? It is a huge, huge change. Hang in there, it sounds like you know how to get through to the other side of this type of anxiety, but yuck, having to ride it out is no fun.

Might have to look into that snoring device, because I don't like the idea of sleeping separate, and only move to the guest bed as a last resort.

Peps, you sound like you are in a good place, both professionally and personally. Let that light shine!

Diane, not the most exciting thing, but YES to the mammogram! Everyone, don't ever miss a chance for a cancer screening.

Liz, did you say you're heading for Florida in September? Have you thought more about whether you'll keep Mike's place, or buy somewhere else?

DH called his boss, and told him he could come back September 13. He'll try 20 hours a week ( but no working on any days I have off, so there will be shorter weeks) and see what he thinks. We are going to try and save any money he earns, and see how we do on just my salary and his social security.

We bought some bourbon flavored balsamic vinegar while traveling. DH bought some tomatoes and basil at the farmers market, and made caprese salad. Delicious, and healthy. He's off to a good start taking over some of the meal planning :)

People think we are crazy going back to Florida 3-4 weeks earlier than usual to join the bocce league but it is part of our plan to see if we can feel more a part of the community. This fall we will try to make connections in our development but probably view some homes in other developments. We want to give it a season before we decide what to do. If we decide to stay we will make some upgrades on the place (primarily bathroom and lanai updates). Otherwise we will probably sell it next year and find something else in the same locale but a different development with less of a golf/tennis focus.
