It was a nice day with the SILs yesterday. Though it was hot and muggy, it was also foggy until around 1, then there was a good breeze. We went out to dinner at a well-known seafood place and all had good meals though mine ended up being a whole fish which I didn't quite expect (didn't read the description closely enough). The eyes bothered me and I had to keep picking little bones out of my mouth. But it did taste good.

Today it will be less foggy and breezy so I don't know if I can stand the beach (strange for me, I know). Mike is golfing for a good part of the day so I am on my own. I could drive back to my part of the Cape for the day but I'm afraid I will get caught up in weekend traffic on the way back.

DD, I hope there is enough AC for the packing you are doing. Really hot here right now! CC, good luck unpacking. Peps, are there changes going on with your Dad? Paula, keep going on that weight loss. Diane S, keep those dogs in the yard. Everyone, hang in there!

Have a fine Friday!

I often get tripped up by Branzino if that's what it was! So tasty, but the whole fish staring at you...

Yes, my dad's diagnosis has moved from mild cognitive impairment to mild vascular dementia. I was pissed because the doc and my brother we talking about the new diagnosis with my dad in the room, but not including him in the conversation. I spoke with my dad yesterday while we were visiting and I was the one who explained his new diagnosis to him. He admitted he hates feeling like an "ignoramous on the sidelines". He still has a lot of cognitive function and great comprehension so I will print some easy to understand information on vascular dementia for him so he can better understand what is going on. I think the vascular dementia diagnosis is an easier diagnosis because they can pinpoint physical causes for the dementia. That will make sense to him.

Yes, the cause may be better known but the effects not so much. One of my friend's husband through our support group had that as a diagnosis.

I don't like what happened to your Dad either, if he can't follow every bit of the conversation, they should be checking in with him and asking questions and inviting him to ask questions. Good for you for helping him get information about his own condition.

The heat here is really something! We worked for 2 days in my Aunt's huge house with no air conditioning. I was seriously worried for their health, when DH pretty much insisted he would put a window air conditioner in their bedroom yesterday. So glad he did, because my Uncle slept 12 hours yesterday, once their bedroom was not 90 degrees. Today, after the beach, I helped my Aunt sort linens, but we did it in her bedroom, the only air conditioned room in the house. DH and my Uncle worked on sorting files etc in the basement, which was tolerable cool.

My Aunt dropped us off at the famous Crane beach in the morning. It was really lovely, although the water was cold. With a little more incentive, I probably could have managed a dip, but the breeze off the water was fresh and delicious. My experience with beaches is mostly Florida gulf (although I did spend soooo much time on Atlantic beaches in Brazil, but that was a lifetime ago). The sand on the gulf doesn't tend to heat up quite as much. I forgot how hot darker sand gets. So a deep, beautiful beach like this that requires some distance trudging through sand can be a bit arduous. Especially if you break your flip flop walking back!!! No way can I walk in the hot sand bare foot, so I'm shuffling painfully slow trying to keep my foot somehow in contact with the broken flip flop. It was a nightmare. I sent DH ahead to tell my Aunt, who was waiting, what was going on. Then the beach patrol guy came, and he radioed for a shuttle driver to take me the rest of the way. Salvation. And I got to ride in a dune buggy type contraption. Still would have preferred a functioning flip flop, but all in all, another sort of adventure.

Tomorrow morning we drive DD to Salem. While she is in class, we are picking up some things she bought through Facebook marketplace and driving them to her apartment. Operation decorate the apartment is underway.

Sunday we are moving out of the cottage, and will spend about a week with DD before we head home. The days have been filled with adventures big and small. And a few more to come ....

Oh your flip flop crisis sounds awful! Thank goodness for the shuttle orderer!

Nothing has been easy there of late! There must be some hack to fix a broken flip-flop but I don't know what it is. Mike's broke on the beach last week and he was super frustrated.

Liz, The first time my brother and I had lobster (it was a visit to Boston for the Bicentennial all the way back in 1976), my brother wrapped a napkin over the head of the lobster because he got freaked out by the eyes :)
