Another nice day on Cape Cod. We went out last night to 2 new places neither of us had been to. One restaurant has clearly been there for many years so it amazed me that Mike had not tried it. He can definitely be a creature of habit in his home bases, though he tries lots of new places when he travels. Anyway, the newer place was okay but probably not worth going back to. The older restaurant (where we had drinks) had a great location and ambiance as well as what looked like good food (and got good reviews online), so we will go back.

We are trying yet another new restaurant with DS this evening. He is coming for a visit this afternoon. DS lived in this area for a couple of years when he worked at one of the restaurants but the one we are going to either wasn't here at the time or he never frequented it. Restaurants seem to be a bit fresher here than in my Cape Cod town where most of the establishments have been in place for many years. I suspect that is because my town is less seasonal. Here they have to attract big business during the summer or they will go out of business during the winter months. And if they don't make it then the facility may be replaced by a new restaurant in the future. So more need to excel, but when they don't there is more turnover. Just my musings on what causes the differences...

Time to possibly change for the beach but maybe give Justice the bath I keep putting off first. Have a sunny Sunday!

The weather looks okay right now, but hints at becoming overcast later. We've been told about a beach for "the poors" as we are now referring to ourselves, but even "the poors" cannot use that beach without the pass on weekends. Of course the real issue with these passes isn't the actual cost, we can pay the $40.00, it's the issue of access. They are difficult to obtain, or at least they are for us. Maybe we just don't understand the system properly. So a long explanation about why we won't be going to the beach today. Weather doesn't look good for tomorrow, but maybe. Hopefully Tuesday.

Yesterday, my Aunt was selling these huge pair of silver candlabra candle holders, very opulent. Dare I say Edwardian? Yes, because one of the people who worked for Castle Hill, the historic house we toured, wanted to buy them for the dining room! My Aunt donated them instead, and they will be delivered to the house later this week. Kind of cool to know her candle holders will be part of their display.

Eating has been less stellar than when the trip started. I bought a Kindle book about gut bacteria after CC shared the info she found. I have one other book I need to finish, and then I'll start this one. It's by the author who wrote Wheat Belly.

CC it's good to hear your Dad is out of the hospital. I hope he continues to recover. As we all know, getting back to our own home often helps.

Hope everyone finds a moment of relaxation this fine summer Sunday.

Nice donation!

So it is a known fact in coastal Massachusetts communities that the townies who dispense beach stickers yield great power. Some towns (and some individuals) wield that power more strictly than others. My town requires solid proof that you are eligible but once proven they are okay. I was able to get Mike a sticker in my town as my husband but I had to show our marriage certificate and will continue to have to do so every year since he is not on the deed. Mike was told by the head of his beach community that I couldn't have one as his wife because I wasn't on the revocable trust. But the person at the sticker booth accepted our marriage certificate and gave me a sticker.

Haha, it's their little empires of sand! I do get the need to protect the beaches from overuse, and governments need money to care for their part of the coast. But we are enjoying talking about being part of "the poors" too much to let it go. :)

A shower and drinking a lot of water and Diet Coke took care of my headache. Last night I spent 2.5 hours taking down all my drapes. Who knew I had so many drapes!! Folded, they fill half the dining room table. One set I'm going to run to donation because I'm done with them, but the others I'll take just in case I can use them again.

Today just further setting aside things to take with me, things to leave for the new owners so they don't get scooped up and putting some like things together for the packers. Oh, and putting signs on the trees to try to save parking spots for tomorrow and Tuesday.

Off to get some more coffee...
