Team Barbecue!

No passes in Southern California. The parking fees are expensive, so I suppose that's how they limit/make money to have lifeguards, patrol etc.?

In Florida it seems like most beaches are free but some have parking charges. Even in Massachusetts the charge is for parking, not for going to the beach (one can walk or be dropped off for free at almost all of them). Falmouth has approxinately 13 beaches owned by the town. 4-5 of those beaches are accessible to the general public via a per-day parking fee and the remainder require a pass (weekly or seasonal). Residents pay $30 for a year while non-residents pay about $300. Those passes are for parking in the relatively small parking lots available and fund the lifeguards, extra police, porta-potties, etc. required to keep the beaches clean and safe. I suppose the cost of that support is built into property taxes for the free beaches elsewhere?
