Memorial Day, 2022
I guess it is a holiday, but for those of us retired it just feels like a day with more people in stores and on beaches, LOL. Speaking of which yesterday ended being a fantastic beach day, then SIL and her extended family including my wonderful grandnephew came for a cookout. I was feeling extremely lethargic all afternoon for some reason but rallied when it appeared the cookout plans were coming together.
Shirl, we watched Bluey with the little one. What a cute show with good messages. My little grandnephew loves it and dances and twirls at the beginning and end. I think he may have an Australian accent when he starts really talking, LOL.
CC, so exciting on the house offers. I am looking forward to beautiful pictures from Sedona. And Peps, I sure hope that puppy perks up. It must be so sad to see them not thriving.
Today might be another beach for me, then leftovers for dinner. Mike is golfing until around 1 but can meet me later as they still aren't monitoring for beach stickers. Speaking of which I need to find out this week if I can get him one now that we are married.
We can't wait until Aruba so we have some alone time. I love DS but having him around all the time especially now that he is using what used to be the spare bedroom across the hall from ours is really bugging us. Originally when he lived here he was in the finished basement. After his Dad's death he moved to his Dad's last room on the first floor, and then this winter he moved upstairs. I am not inclined to make an issue of it right now as we are finally in a good place again but I may have to at some point. Wouldn't it be nice if he gets a job elsewhere and moves out on his own? Cape Cod is great in the summer but not so great for young people in the winter time. But he is a bit of a hermit so that doesn't bother him.
Time to get some breakfast then ready for the beach. Happy Memorial Day - let's remember all those who sacrificed for our country and us.

I hear you! I love my kids with every bit of me, and I miss DD, but I enjoy our empty nest too. During Covid was a particular situation, DD couldn't really go out and socialize much, so we became a trio. She is great company, and very easy to live with, but still... Now she has resumed a good part of her life (things are still not back to precovid for all of her friends) and I am happy thinking about her going out to brunch on the weekends, and concerts etc.
Liz, my daughter tells us there is an epidemic of people getting their drinks roofied in Boston!!! Super random, old people, young people, even people just drinking soda. In many cases there is no robbery or evidence of assault. There were 30 people brought to the ER in one night. Crazy stuff.
I stopped my container planting until I can go buy some clear plastic forks to bury with my plants in the soil. Wretched squirrels. I guess the same habitat that brings all the birds I love brings those varmints too.
We were going to go Kayaking this afternoon when DH gets home from work, but looks like rain again. There is plenty for me to do in the house, so no worries.
I hadn't heard about the roofie situation. I wonder what would prompt people to do that? Wanting to mug them?

Got my hair done today. My hair stylist has been doing my hair since after college! We are more friends than anything. She got teary when I said I had an offer. Just one more moment to make it feel real - not seeing my friend every 2.5 weeks and needing a new hair color person.
My real estate agent is making me anxious. He spent a lot of time convincing me that no one expected a perfect house, rolling his eyes at everything I was doing, then when I finally relented and listed, now he's throwing at me all the things he thinks I should hurry up and fix when that is not what we agreed upon and he told me it didn't matter. I'm irritated that he pushed to get it on the market when I could done it before listing if it!s that important. Like my termite damaged wood floors (I have extra boards) and replacing the $5000 stove (the thermostat for the griddle that is awful to clean and therefore I never used, is broken) and the $2400 dishwasher (works, but the drain pump is making unhealthy sounds) because they both need repairs and no longer have parts available. I would rather give them money to fix the stuff. What if they want to remodel the kitchen? I need to discuss this with him, because this is a different tune he's singing.
I went to see Top Gun: Maverick yesterday, just as much fun as the first one! The audience applauded during and at the end. And Tom is so well preserved, it makes one wonder if the Scientologists really have been in touch with aliens who have anti-aging secrets.
My friend is coming over for dinner and a movie. Should be fun!
Take care all!
It sounds to me like he is getting nervous about inspections and the total price potentially being cut by the cost of the "repairs". Maybe to protect his own cut now that he is sensing how much your place is worth? IMHO stick by your original decision. Don't try to quickly fix anything. If there is a great offer but they want some stuff fixed after inspection make the deal to fix/reduce price then, or weigh it against other offers. Maybe you will get an offer with no inspection contingency (the one I took didn't have that contingency).

I don't think it's about money or that he's being shifty (my irritated writing may make have made it seem that way). I think he doesn't want them to walk away and to show we've done our due diligence because the offer is so good and there is currently only one other that is much less. We talked yesterday and I think he just wants to show them we know what it will cost to replace, but we didn't in case the buyer wanted to remodel. The floors, if it's an easy fix, he wants to do in case they are weirded out by the house being eaten. It's one thing to know they are present in the attic, another thing to know they are actively eating the floors.
That makes sense especially around being clear about why you didn't do the upgrades beforehand.
