Place holder for the start of our thread..... I'll be back shortly.

We are off to hike at Ka'ena Point Trail (about 40 minutes away on the west coast of Oahu). We had a great beach day yesterday, with a late afternoon hike on the grounds here, then watched the sunset in the evening.

During the sunset, Mike commented that he wasn't sure he would invite his estranged sister to our post-wedding party. Hmmm... I guess we will see what's what by April. I have communicated my unwillingness to make major changes financially without marriage.

Have a safe and healthy Friday (Is it really Friday already?).

I think you are quite wise to keep finances separate - especially with no real commitment to a marriage date. My father and his girlfriend have been together for over 15 years - 18, I believe. They decided to NOT get married after two years of being together and then it became a commuter relationship. Part of the week at her place, part at his place. They have kept money completely separate and it has worked well for them. However, my dad did have to "settle" for that arrangement. He would have gladly married and had a permanent living arrangement. In the end, though, he is happy they did not marry. His explanation is this, "It's been much simpler this way." I'm not exactly sure what that means, but he is glad that he didn't remarry in the end.

I vote for keeping finances separate even if you do remarry. I think it shows a level of independence that you should have as a "senior" and it also communicates to your kids that you honor the family that you and Paul created in your blended family.

Paul and I actually kept most finances separate except for homeownership. And with our homes we divided up the bills. So with Mike I wouldn't have anything more merged, probably less so even if we marry. We did talk about me buying into Mike's Florida home but we would stipulate how it would pass on after one, then both of us die (but I won't buy in unless we are married).

Greetings All

Thanks for starting the day Peps. I don't think I have ever actually started the post since this group was started 10 years ago. So much has happened in that time!!What blessed lives we all lead!.

DH is headed out for lunch with the boys. Yay, that means I get to watch news shows and maybe eat my ham sandwich. He is also on a mission to Target in the big city of Eureka. Its calm and sunny here and all around beautiful.

I confirmed with my contractor that they will start the bathroom remodel the first week of Feb. I had all kinds of worries that their people would be sick with covid and they would have to delay etc. Biggest concern is what do we do with the dogs for those days as doors will likely be open etc. Oh well. There are always crates for the dogs.

Many covid cases here - like hundreds each day in our low population county. Two deaths yesterday.

Yesterday I went to the house of my friend whose wife died two weeks ago. Alzheimers. He wanted me to take items from her costume jewelry and clothing. It felt kind of creepy but I chose a few necklaces and one sweater. I think he wanted me to take more stuff but I just cant keep it. It must be really hard dealing with that stuff. I know the thrift stores will take a lot as its cute stuff but too small for me.

Football tomorrow with my studio buddy. Gotta come up with some kind of soup.

Cheers. Diane S

I donated everything except real jewelry and a couple of sweaters DH's mother made for him.

Hehehe.... That felt kind of sneaky, but I figure it's a good way to get the thread going for today and I didn't have time to complete a full post right away.

My eating has been absolutely off the rails for 2 days. Went back to work and l totally lost my mojo for eating well. I think it was due to the abrupt change in sleep schedule. I know that when I am tired I tend to eat higher carb and higher sugar foods. Fake energy....

I am looking forward to the long holiday weekend. Not like I had a long work week, but I am tired already from being back at school. Wrangling 8 and 9 year olds after a two week vacation and 7 days with 4 different substitute teachers is work! They are slowly getting it back together. I'm hoping by next Tuesday or Wednesday, they are back in a routine.

CC, please drive carefully. If the weather dictates a stop in travel, please follow the weather. We sunny CA people are not the best winter weather drivers. (Says he who drove his flipping motorhome in a snow storm through New Mexico last March!)

DD, happy travels to the warmth and sun! Are you out here just for the weekend?

Diane S. I was looking at show dates for this summer. I may just make it to Ferndale this year! Not 100%, but it's in the plan book!

TGIF!

Hey all! Another late post. I'm settled in for the night in Claremore, OK outside Tulsa. Looking at the weather, I'm going to hang out here for the day tomorrow. I told a friend who said I have to learn to drive in the snow someday that that ought to happen in an empty parking lot, not a 2 lane highway surrounded by semis! I'm just not comfortable and that's enough reason.

I've been listening to the most fun book on Audible (I think it's an Audible exclusive?). It's Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. He wrote The Martian that was made into the Matt Damon movie. This is very much in the same vein and so entertaining. It's very science intensive just like The Martian, exciting and just as funny. And the narrator is fabulous. Highly recommend if you enjoy space exploration, science problems, mixed with humor.

Fyi, my road eating is atrocious. My dad is still doing well. I think that's it!
