We return back to Cape Cod later this morning at which point I will begin packing up the Christmas decor. I want it all put away by tomorrow so I can concentrate on final packing for Hawaii. We are going to stay at a hotel close to the airport on Wednesday night so no one has to get up early and drive us in. We have been watching the flight cancellations on Hawaiian Airlines and they seem to be mostly on the shorter flights so perhaps they are moving crew around to be able to continue the more lucrative long flights (the one to Honolulu every morning is the longest they run from Boston and hasn't been cancelled yet). All fingers and toes are crossed that we get out on Thursday.
I had posted pictures of our view from our room here in Boston on FB and one of my high school friends contacted me to invite us for a glass of wine before dinner last night. They live in a TINY condo on the Boston waterfront. It shows that you don't need much room. I would guess they have around 500 square feet with a small living room, tiny kitchen and loft bedroom accessed via wooden circular stairs. The one bathroom is also upstairs. So small yet so tastefully done with beautiful molding, builtins and gorgeous stairs. But I am not sure I would want to climb those stairs over time. But they love living in Boston and walking around it daily and Boston is an easy city to walk. Interesting...
Have a safe and healthy second day in 2022!

I am grateful to have experienced the change of tides today...the moment of the beginning of the shift from high tide to low tide ! I'll put a quick video on TT.

Liz, my aunt and uncle who live in Ipswich, used to live in one of those white towers next to the Aquarium and the Marriott. Right on the wharf. Years ago, we would be visiting, and I would say, we should live in Boston, and DH would remind me, you won't be living in this neighborhood! Its a lovely location for sure.
Ocean Diane, the natural world is magic! Enjoy the sunshine and lovely weather. After years of living in a northern climate, it's a miracle and a blessing to be where you are.
It was subzero all day yesterday, and will be bitter today. Tomorrow should be a more balmy 20 degrees. In the winter hete, the coldest, most bitter days are usually the sunniest, and today is brilliant sun. If it's overcast it tends to be warmer as the clouds are like a blanket that helps hold what meagre heat exists.
We went to see Kingsmen last night. I don't recommend. The original was violent, but very stylized and clever. This one was violent, and unoriginal. It was good though, to be out of the house, and the popcorn was fresh.
Another day at home, taking care of a few things, then off to work tomorrow. I suspect it will feel very long, since I have to get up early, but then I should be eased back into my work rhythm.
Time to read the paper...
Greetings all
Its cold and windy here but at least sunny. I am feeling sorry of energize (no clue why) and plan to get some things done including non critical laundry like guest room stuff. I also plan to go shop for the pantry for the homeless people. The discount grocery is kind of fun as you never know what you will find.
I had a sort of epiphany yesterday. this year I will think in terms of things that I want to do and not stuff I must do or should do or have to do. It started with my craving for a good quality deli ham sandwich. It just appeals to me. So I think I should get one even though I cant eat a whole one. Then I realized it was a good idea to think in terms of small things I want. I also want poached eggs on toast. Thats about it. And I had a dream last night about some art items I made years ago and maybe should make again.
Yesterdays big event was doing all the dogs toenails. Tesla is a total ***** and its hard to get her done. But we did it. I deserve a prize. We also watched a lot of football since its about over. Also started a series called "Emily in Paris" which is pretty cute. DH likes it and it has no exploding aliens!!
DD I hear you on that bitter cold. Glad you are able to get out. People inland here are still snowed in or trapped by broken trees and power lines. People should take a lesson from the midwest and bury cable.
Hey Cici I have now worn one of my 100% cotton sweatshirts from Target. Highly recommended. The right weight and fit. For me the sleeves are too long but they would not be for you and the cuffs turn up nicely without crappy looking seams. More on the fashion menu today.
Thats about it here. It a relief to have all the year end business stuff done. It was weighing on me more than I realized.
Boston sounds fun. I was last there about 30 years ago for a deposition at an insurance company. Ate dinner by the harbor. Nice place.
Cheers. Diane S
I think being deliberate about finding small pleasures is so worthwhile. There are always those bigger moments, a trip, a visit from someone dear who has been faraway, a nice tax return, a new car, but those things don't happen daily. A nice sandwich, freshly laundered sheets, the perfect chai, the smell of garden soil, those can make us smile much more frequently. And life is filled with must and should tasks, so any because I want to things should be welcomed and embraced. Like a new 100% cotton sweatshirt. :)
I have "Covid, Not Covid".... meaning all the symptoms of a mild case, but guess what? It's just a good old fashioned cold. But it i****ting me like a doozy!
That also means no work for me tomorrow because I am not allowed in the building with symptoms until I get a PCR test, which I can't get until Wednesday.... So, unless they accept a rapid at home test, I'm going to have a full 3 weeks off! Not ideal, but at least my district is taking the Omicron outbreak seriously. They distributed at home tests to all students, but not to staff... Go figure.
Needless to say my New Year day was blah.... it involved feeling like poop, cleaning puppy poop, feeding puppies, a surprise nap, and watching a lot of Netflix.
Liz, your pre packing/packing is so admirable! I am just not that person!
While I don't have resolution for this year, I do have a goal of working on becoming less of a procrastinator. I've been working on small tasks every day and doing well so far. Just have to keep it up.
Happy New Year.
I wouldn't rule out Covid, I'm reading that rapid tests aren't picking up Omicron as effectively as Delta.
I think I'm allowed back to work, regardless. I have no fever, and onset of symptoms was more than 10days ago. I'm fine with going back, I'm sort of numb about everything, and will do the best I can, because that's all I can do.
Which leads me to, What, Really? A training has been pushed to department chairs to execute TOMORROW at 9am, because the admins who were supposed to do it are sick. The best I can do? Open the slide deck tomorrow for my department, and we'll see what happens. There is no way I can be expected to do a professional development training for my department on a topic I have not received training for, using a slide deck that arrived in my email the final hours of break. It's an easy one to not get over excited about.
Wow! Unbelievable that they should throw that at you!
