New Years Eve 2021
on 12/31/21 9:13 am
Shirley is already in 2022!
We ended up only getting 0.4" of rain and not the 2-4" they predicted. Some is better than none. We have clean, bright blue skies today. I need to get off my butt today and go for a walk...
Anyone doing New Years resolutions? I don't do them mostly because I rarely follow through and don't need mor reasons to feel like a failure! I remember making birthday resolutions last year to enter my 50s healthier than my 40s and that didn't pan out. One day at a time might work better for me.
I have no plans tonight and will likely be in bed and asleep before the clock strikes 12. It's never been a holiday I ever got into. How about you?
Hope everyone has a safe and fun New Year's Eve!
I'm not much for specific New Year's resolutions, but I do like taking some time to think about what is and what isn't working for me, and what is making me happy so I can have more of it. So DH and I plan a dinner for the two of us and talk about some longer term goals. Our talks have led to us doing things like investing in season tickets for the Broadway shows, or agreeing to pay down a particular debt by cutting corners somewhere else etc. So, not really resolutions, but goals for how to live in the coming year.
I'm feeling better, but still coughing from time to time. I don't feel comfortable going to our friends house this evening. They may very well get this crud, but I want to know they didn't get it from me. Especially our friends 83 year old mother.
When I was younger, I had one disastrous NYE celebration after the other. It was a holiday that annoyed me. So much pressure to have fun. But in 1999, our friends parents hosted a really lovely party, that ended with professional fireworks over the lake in their neighborhood. It was magical. They then decided to host one every year after that. 2019 was the last one. In 2020, our friends father passed away. There will not be a big blow out party this year, just a small gathering at our friends mothers house (the one I'm pretty sure we won't go to). So for 20 years we had a wonderful party to attend and our kids went from preschoolers at the party to college graduates. What a gift. So now NYE will be bittersweet I think, as a very happy era has passed. Perhaps in the years to come we will make new traditions.
Whatever your plans tonight (or last night for Shirl) wishing you so many unexpected joys in the coming year that your heart can barely hold them all!
Enjoy your NYE with DH and plan for an enjoyable upcoming year. The two of you have been good at finding short breaks of joy so I hope the same will continue in 2022.

Happy New Year from our great little haven in Boston for 2 nights. We will be able to see the fireworks from our balcony if they are visible through the fog.
It feels too soon to be 2022! Lots of change coming. I have been corresponding with my financial advisor on tax implications of marriage, change of residency, etc. So much to think about marrying at this point in life beyond how to actually get married.
Peps, good information yesterday about the effects of breakthrough illness. What you reported reading coincides with what I felt I was reading in various articles, but it is so hard to get to the real truth these days. Since Mike and I have both had Covid, been vaccinated and boosted with Moderna we are going to keep following our plans. We are going to continue using home tests before getting together with at-risk people.
I don't do New Years resolutions because I just feel that it is best when ready to make a plan and stick with it without using an artificial start date. But our plan for the weekend is to enjoy the start of the New Year.
Happy New Year my friends!!!!!
