I am giving some serious thought to driving the geriatric cat to Boston over Christmas break when DD moves back. We don't know what to do for him when we go out of town. He's healthy, but frail. He gets 3 small cans of food each day. His box needs to be scooped daily. We do not want him to have any more vaccinations (my Dad is very much against vaccinating geriatric cats if they are indoor cats and had regular vaccinations when they were younger) so, even if we found a kennel suitable for such an old man (he'll be 20 in April), they wouldn't take him without a recent rabies certificate. It's a lot to ask someone to come and stay with him for 5 or 6 days ... I think he would be happy with DD, but on the other hand, it could be very hard on him to leave the only house he's ever lived in at this stage of the game... What a condondrum.
My eating is ridiculous and I am getting fatter everyday. I did so well for 9 years, or, at least I was satisfied with how it was going. I never thought this would happen. It is making me very sad. Sigh. I feel like some of it is the tamoxifen.
It is cold here today, the high was 10 degrees, the wind chill was zero. All of my winter coats are tight. Another sigh.
It is so tough when our animals become elderly (like our humans I guess). All your concerns are completely valid. I was actually lucky with my last two that my son lived in the house so we could go to Florida and leave them at home. One did die while we were gone though and that was very hard on him. When the other was failing through the summer we decided to bring her in to be euthanized before we went to Florida as DS couldn't handle doing it alone again. But it was her time anyway as she had become so uncomfortable.
