After a month of mostly staying put here in MikeLand, we are going to my place on the east coast for a couple of days.

Tonight we are having dinner with my deceased DH's oldest friends. One is the friend who went into cardiac arrest in July. I haven't seen him since the end of summer so it will be good to see him. He insisted on cooking tonight so he is where he kept saying he wanted to be while he was hospitalized (in Florida) and doing what he loves to do (cooking).

Tomorrow we are going to the Siesta Key Sand Sculpting event where another good friend is competing. They are coming back to MikeLand with us for 3 days on Sunday.

Eating was ok yesterday. Last night I had some spicy lamb stew left over from Wednesday but could only eat a very small amount of it (and didn't eat much Wednesday). It was super tasty but I felt full very quickly. Was it the lamb, the spiciness, or what?

Time to get a shower and get packed. Have a safe and healthy Friday!

Greetings All

Sorry to be AWOL. I seem to be running behind in most everything I do and it aint all that much! I think covid has been a giant energy suck for all of us and we don't always see it. We were supposed to take the electric car in today for an adjustment. DH gets there and service says that Oh, their compressor is broken and they can't do an service until it is fixed. Could they not have called us and told us? I think the service dept is jammed up and has not enough staff while the rest of the car dealerships languishing. So we will go to a different dealer which I think we need anyway as the one in this town is just too dinky to know anything.

DH bought this giant chicken pot pie from costco they other day. I have eaten it for 3 meals in a row. So have the dogs. Still half of it left. Its decent but could feed an army. Won't get that again.

Holidays always make me kind of cranky since there seems like so much to do. but I really don't have all that much to do so its all in my mind as a residual from years past. Trip to swimming pool in order.

I have decided to take a six month leave from one of the galleries. I was there yesterday looking at mail, dealing with bank deposits, addressing the issue of a member who wants to be paid a lot of money for painting our sign, painters on the sidewalk, lack of parking and grungy people hanging around who are likely not vaccinated. I concluded I just needed to be away for awhile. Its a relief to have made this decision so I will do it effective Jan 1. I need to take some time to organize the treasurers files as they are pretty messy.

Liz, I like the term "Mikeland".

DD and Peps I so thank you for being teachers and taking responsibility for the welfare of kids. So essential. I heard on the news that in Washington somewhere the schools are about 2 subs away from shut down because the teachers have had it with so many changes and so much controversy over covid. Scary but understandable. I am grateful to be fairly insulated and to only have to worry about wild puppies and a giant chicken pie.

Well enough rambling. Time to do something useful. DianeS

Diane, I love, love chicken pot pie! I haven't seen it at our Costco, and maybe that's for the best. As it is, I keep having to stop DH from buying one of their colossal pumpkin pies. We can only have one in the house if DS is home to help us eat it. And you should definitely take your leave. Retirement should have as few aggravating obligations as possible. I know none of us can live a life completely free of aggravation, but no use signing up for it.

Liz, how long before its renamed MikeLizLand?

DH said I should choose something fun to do tonight. I'm not sure how to break it to him that all I want is to stay home tonight.

2nd day of controlled eating. Stringing the days together, one hour at a time.

Cleaning people today (thought it was yesterday, oops). It's surface-of-the-sun hot here. My a/c is cranking. I was complaining about the heat to MI guy (he hates the heat more than me) and he asked if I'd done anything toward moving. It shamed me into spending this afternoon cleaning out one of the guest rooms turned junk room. The bed is clear! And there are two boxes ready for the Salvation Army. But to get ready to clean, I spent another hour trying to get my Sonos speakers to work (there are always problems after I go away for the summer). And who can clean without music blasting, I ask you? Then in my cleaning, I came across all the 9v batteries I bought to change out my smoke detectors, so had to stop to take care of that. I have 8 smoke detectors. Three are only a few feet from one another, but the rules are bedrooms, outside garage entry doors and in open hallways. So there they are all in a row. Dumb.

MI guy asked to go to VA with me if I go to see about moving there (on my list). Surprised me. He used to live there and still really likes it. He confuses me so much. This is a really good exercise for me in just letting things unfold and letting life continue with only what I know rather than filling in blanks in my head. My brain hates blanks and unanswered questions and makes assumptions to make things make sense. I can't do that here. So I just am floating in this relationship current, minding my own business. As it stands, we're friends and I'm good with that.

Tonight I'm going to dinner with my hiking girlfriends at our favorite hamburger place. They serve giant bowls of parmesan truffle fries for the table. Enough said.

Please send cool weather mojo this way!
