VSG Maintenance Group

The sun is out again but it feels like fall! It was 60 at 9 am, a full 10 degrees lower than it has been in 2 months. The high today is supposed to be 70 with low humidity. I am hoping to get to the beach with my SIL at least to read while Mike golfs today. SIL and I are meeting another friend at the winery in the late afternoon.
Food intake was okay yesterday - small meals but more carbs then necessary between meals. I did make a nice salad for dinner with home-grown lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers combined with feta, bacon crumbles and grilled chicken.
We have sort of a normal weekend coming up even though it is a long one but the next couple of weeks get crazy. I am taking Mike to Nantucket for a couple of days next week for his birthday, then DD and friends are here for the early weekend for her friend's bachelorette party, then Mike, Justice and I are going to Florida for a week to do some pre-setup prior to our fall stay. Whew! I guess it is good that we will be busy.
Have a safe and healthy Friday!

Cooler here too. I have no specific plans for the weekend. No school today, but I will be doing some work on my own time today. Miraculously, this is DHs one scheduled Saturday off a month, so he will also be home for the long weekend.
Yesterdays training is still weighing on me. Our school has added some safety features, like bullet resistant glass, panic buttons etc. Talking about the reality of school shootings is always grim.
One of the things we discussed is that we have all endured a traumatic event (I would say we are still in the event). But some students endured greater trauma, those kids whose home life is abusive or negligent are going to come back to us with greater needs than ever before. As I read through reports about the students on my caseload, I have students who lost a parent, have chemical issues, who have been in in treatment programs... One part of me says, this is why I am here at this moment in time: to offer consistency, empathy, encouragement, love, to these kids with broken lives. The other part of me is scared I'm not up to this special challenge created by the upheaval of Covid. I think self care will have to be very intentional this year if I am going to have enough mojo for the needs of this group.
Anyhow, today I am enjoying my lazy morning, drinking tea and watching the local morning show. Better to watch the anchors trying all the new foods at the State Fair than me eating them :)
A lot of responsibility with these precious children! Definitely relax this weekend as much as possible and self-care especially mentally will be needed to sustain you this year.
