It's a decent day out today. We used our Solo stove last night - very nice (thanks Cecily). I had bought it directly from the company with free shipping and 2 day delivery. I saw the same stove at the local hardware store for $110 more! That made me feel good. But now I need fire tongs. Mike was using a shovel to move logs around LOL.

Today our friend's wife will be coming back from NH with my DS and will be staying at my home for the next stretch. Mike and I are out for the afternoon and early evening visiting with friends of his who I met in Florida and having dinner with Mike's sisters. We get together with his sisters about every two weeks and we always have a good visit. They will be visiting for a week in Florida this fall as well which has been a regular routine except for 2020.

Speaking of travel, I am getting more angry at the non-vaccinated. I fear that restrictions being reimposed are next after new mask mandates. They are the cause of this newest spread so staying unvaccinated is no longer a choice which only affects a person individually. Apparently it needs to be required to get some people to do what is best for society (and themselves btw). Think of polio, smallpox and measles vaccines which have long been required to enter school. And even seatbelt laws. The opponents used to argue that not wearing a seatbelt was only a potential risk to themselves, but that was ignoring the cost to society for insurance, medical support and when the individual is a driver the possibility that they won't remain behind the wheel and a more serious accident will injure or kill others. And how about cellphone laws? None of these risks have been as great as Covid so I don't understand why the government has dragged its feet in mandating vaccines. Did they really think that the people saying they weren't getting it were lying?

Off the soapbox now. Have a safe and healthy Thursday!

So glad you liked the stove, Liz!

I woke up to a power outage this morning. I did it to myself (sort of) after thinking the other day how strange it was that we hadn?t had one this summer (big trees on sandy hills with above ground power lines and lots of windy thunderstorms = lots of outages). I should have knocked on wood! No coffee sent me out to the local convenience store for a cup and ended up with me getting a doughnut I didn?t need too. Impulse purchase and it wasn?t very good. Doughnuts never are for me! I have some unfulfilled expectation that they are going to taste amazing and they always taste a little burnt or are on the edge of stale. Sigh. When will I learn.

Later I had lunch with my neighbor to catch up before she goes back to Alabama this weekend. We had a really nice time. She reinvented herself after her husband died and moved from her town of 40 years to start a new life against her family?s advice and she said she?s never been happier. She was very supportive of me moving so it was fun to talk about southern towns she recommended.

I think that?s it. I?m making soup for dinner as it cooled off today and a wind from the north has picked up. Hope you all have a nice day!
