One more day to the graduation party. The weather forecast which previously included rain is improving thank goodness. I would really prefer not to have 30+ people inside. DD and boyfriend arrive tonight and the guests start at 3 tomorrow with a subset of them sleeping overnight. DS is already cooking for tomorrow and planning breakfast for Sunday morning.

Speaking of DS, his dinner party last night went really well. Too much food of course but it was a nice gathering of friendly people with many of them meeting for the first time.

Today we are at Mike's Cape house so he can finish sealing his deck and we will go to the beach for a bit. A nice respite before the onslaught tomorrow. Mike is a little worried about meeting my youngest BIL, but I am sure it will be fine.

I am worried about the SIL with lung cancer. She is getting some of the expected side-effects from the targeted treatment she is on which are very uncomfortable. In addition has had 2 UTIs in the last month and a tooth infection leading to a root canal today. I suspect at least the lafter is related to the treatment as she has severe drymouth. But maybe the former is related to the bladder cancer she also has, but at the last checkup seemed to be stable. And she is always slim so anything that causes her to not eat throws her into the too thin/no reserve category. Good thing that we all have reserves!

Havd a safe and healthy Friday!

I'm sorry to hear about your SIL and the bad side effects. Cancer is so cruel, and the treatments are sometimes so harsh.

Having some extra in the face of severe illness, my WLS clinic would not operate on anyone who had cancer, in I believe, the last 5 years. I suppose they were concerned that if someone had a reoccurrence, not being able to eat much like the first year post op could be detrimental.

Almost one week of lower carb and I feel very content. The scale continues to move, in the preferred direction! My appetite has settled down, thankfully. I no longer believe, yes, this is it. I have no idea why any eating plan works for me one day, and then doesn't. I'm just enjoying the moment today, where thoughts of food, dealing with food, isn't onerous.

There is no rain forecast for at least a week! 90s returning Monday, maybe even this weekend. Another lovely, sunny day on tap here.

Yesterday, we, or I guess I should say me, finally gave into killing the beetles with some pesticide. I feel so guilty, but we tried to do it with care. There is nothing on the vines flowering, so no bees should show up on the foliage. We deliberately did not put any on the flowers, and we sprayed at dusk. I also told our neighbors what we were doing since I think a pesticide is more dangerous to their dog than the actual presence of grapevine. They thanked me, but I figured they wouldn't be too alarmed as they have a lawn service that sprays stuff monthly. It seems to have worked, I shook the fence this morning, and only 2 of the little terrorists flew out, instead of hundreds.

Cecily, I hope Captain Annoying is leaving soon!

Captain Annoying has departed! I skipped dinner with them last night. He's not my guest, so I didn't feel at all bad.

I hiked the Alligator Hill Trail at Sleeping Bear yesterday. I did 5.5 miles before my hip said no more. There is a pretty overlook at one point:

Mostly it's just steep hills and forest (it's a series of cross country ski trail in the winter). Lots of raspberries growing everywhere along the trail for snacks!

Today I grocery shopped and didn't buy crap. I even took it as a sign that the English muffins and the SkinnyCow ice cream sandwiches I like were sold out that I was not supposed to buy them, so didn't search out replacements. I often do just fine with moderation with them until I don't and eat them all. Best not to keep them around. I also avoided the peanut M&Ms at the checkout. Came home with very uninteresting food! The best kind for me most of the time.

Today I need to do some weeding. Tomorrow there is a dedication of the recently repaired 150 year old channel to Lake MI on our lawn (the town asked if they could have the ceremony here). There will be about 40 people including state representatives here and they are bussing them in and will drive right past my hopeless veggie garden beds. At least it shouldn't look abandoned!

Have a good day all!

What a beautiful hike! I hear you about not having too much in the house. Right now there is way too much carby, high-calorie stuff around!

Today I went to Macy's to return a few things I'd ordered, and decided not to keep, and to pay my credit card, now that I had decided what to keep. I wandered into the store for a bit, and left with a bag full of clothes. I can go shopping with the intent to buy things, and find nothing, or find lots of stuff on a day I wasn't even thinking I needed anything. Happy with my treasures.

Yep - sometimes blinders are needed, LOL. I find that when I am looking for something for a specific event that I can never find anything. It is browsing with no goal that gets me into trouble.
