Welcome to the official holiday day off.
The BBQ from yesterday was rescheduled to this afternoon. We felt like we should do something to celebrate the 4th so went to dinner at a place on the harbor and split a lobster roll. TONS of 20 somethings were there in full party mode. We felt old! This creepy drunk girl sat next to me at the bar for a while and kept putting her head on my shoulder so I'd have to shrug her off. She tried to take my drink at one point and I moved it in front of Mike. She finally moved down and I told the bar manager that they needed to stop serving her and make sure she wasn't driving. Some guys were very intent talking to her when we left. I sure hope she knew them. The bartenders were watching, but the Mom in me felt very uncomfortable with the situation from every standpoint.
The BBQ today will be much less stress inducing. DS, 2 SILs, and I are going but Mike will be golfing. Originally his golf plans didn't interfere but now they are. However I am NOT going to ask him to cancel. I do hate when he has afternoon tee times like today as he is gone essentially all day.
Not much else going on. I need to finish my coffee and refill my kindle with books from the library. BTW, I just finished a really good one called Beneath Devil's Bridge by Loreth Anne White. A real page turner especially at the end.
Have a safe and healthy Monday!

Good morning. Enjoy your rescheduled BBQ Liz.
Today's plans, my son and his girlfriend are off to kayak, so I am babysitting their dachshund. She is a very sweet dog. The cat was aggressive with her on other visits, but now they have seemed to settle on ignoring each other.
Later today, BFF and I are going to visit our high school friend who had open heart surgery a couple of weeks ago.
DH had to work yesterday, but he is getting a compensatory day off on Friday, which will give him a 4 day weekend. Something to look forward to.
There has been A LOT of socializing and a full house. BFF just went for a 5mile walk, the kayakers will leave in a moment. This extroverted introvert needs some quiet time!!! I haven't read the paper since Thursday. Off to the porch for a few moments of calm.
Liz, sorry your BBQ had to be rescheduled! I'm guessing the weather just didn't cooperate!
We had a pretty low key 4th. We were able to watch fireworks from my brother's backyard. The display was great, but there were two intermissions due to grass fires caused by the fireworks. Next year, I hope they open the venue fully so the fireworks can be done as they used to be without fire threat. More than likely though, the fire Marshal will not permit the event.
Dropped a pound this morning after 4th of July BBQ. Go figure, right? Though I didn't eat much at all during the day - a yogurt with fruit and a bit of granola and some peanuts and jerky as a snack.
Did a fair amount of journaling yesterday. Was cathartic.
Should probably get to grooming and dog show prep.... Off I go like a herd of turtles!
My neighborhood does 4th of July, and apparently New Year's Day, BIG ! Fireworks are legal here, but like DD, I was glad to hear no ambulances ! I mowed the front today, and pulled down some loose branches and twigs. I also got my car topped with gas and had a haircut. I'm ready Elsa !! Tuesday night to Wednesday afternoon will be our most challenging time. I'll roast a turkey loin and make some hard boiled eggs in the morning. I'll keep everything charging during the day tomorrow, so I have batteries full. We have a sharing library in our amenity center, so I picked up a couple of paperbacks in case I can't access my tablet to e read.

The 4th celebration was a success! The meal turned out great, though in retrospect I should have done the chicken in advance. The way we do it requires turning every 10 minutes for an hour. Too much when you're trying to be social and finish up other dishes and get it all out hot. The hit dish of the evening was this potato salad: https://midwestfoodieblog.com/roasted-potato-salad/
We had fireworks on 3 sides as the professional type mortars are legal to buy and shoot off here. Quite a show! We had a good group of 15. And the weather cooperated here - it was warm, but not humid.
I really need to straighten out my eating. I felt a bit more in control today. But my weight is up a lot.
Greetings All
Phew, niece and her 6 year old son are on the airplane. Plane was delayed and then she got a hassle from the airline about bringing puppy. we had the health certificate, vac records and all that stuff ready for them. They said she should have told them ahead but finally let it go. Her son, my great nephew, it a bit of a handful so its been a wild weekend. We went to the ocean, redwoods, zoo and the cool new skywalk up in the redwoods which was awesome. But I am worn out. Wild child. My niece is a great parent to him but he tests patience. Restaurants - you know the drill. Ten minutes into the bay boatride he wanted the boat to turn around and take him back.
Anyway they love their puppy and it was hard to let her go but she will have a great life. Remaining pup, now Poppy, seemed forlorn when we got home.
I ate crap all weekend. Need to do better.
oops, issues, more later.
