We are into our second week here in Aruba. DD arrived more or less on schedule and we probably won't see her until mid-day. We had dinner at the pizza place around the corner then went to bed early.
I thought today was Father's Day but apparently it is later than usual this year. Mike will talk to his kids today regardless as he always calls them on Sundays.
The beloved husband of a childhood friend died last night after a long siege with cancer. They had reunited 30 years after their relationship ended and married 10 years ago feeling very much in love and blessed. Unfortunately he was diagnosed with cancer 5 years ago and they have known it was terminal for over 2 years. So sad.
Today is out to breakfast day (Mike always goes on Sunday) and we are going to a restaurant out on a pier tonight. Other than that, just the usual walk, beach and visiting with DD.
Have a safe and healthy Sunday!

I have to stop the eating. It's really good until after dinner when I'm alone and then I eat myself silly. Nighttime eating has never been an issue for me, so I suspect this is some kind of control/rebellion thing.
Dinner last night was big hit. So I'm glad about that. No one was serving themselves even with prompting so I jumped in and went first to get things going. I asked my dad where everyone was sitting, he said outside. So I headed out to the deck on my house where the table is and then everyone sat inside. My dad's wife saw me and felt sorry for me so she and another woman walked over and ate with me quickly then headed back in. Sigh. While it wasn't a big deal and only slightly embarrassing, it struck me a good illustration of my socially awkward self. Always on the outside looking in, thinking I'm doing it right and consistently missing the mark.
Nothing big planned for today. Maybe some weeding? I did some yesterday, but it's like painting the Golden Gate Bridge - as soon as you fini****'s time to start back at the beginning. Maybe I'll walk too. I haven't done that since I got here and I don't have nearly as much to do physically as I do at the start of the summer.
Liz, I'm glad you're having a nice time in Aruba!
DD, have fun in Miami! Earplugs sound like a good idea.
Shirl, you're good animal parents! That's a lot of driving for one day, but sounds like the right thing to do.
Peps, I'm with you on evening exercise. I'm not a morning person for exercise, though I can appreciate when it's out of the way.
DianeO, so happy you're settling in well!
DianeS, there is no fixing the lift. It's now scrap metal. Give the puppies a belly scritch from me!
I am simply not a happy camper at the moment. I am not enjoying this stage of the recovery process. Not going to lie, in this particular case, ignorance has been bliss. My heightened awareness seems to be adding to my stress. I know it is all part of the process, but damn!
Got some Costco shopping done yesterday. That's always a good thing. We now have plenty of staples and enough toilet paper to last a good long time!
More of the same today - grooming, but with company... Sort of a little grooming party. 3 dog friends will come here and we will all trim together and then have lunch. One friend is bring a cake for Ron to congratulate him on his retirement. I like that so many people are wanting to celebrate his retirement. I can see that it makes him feel good to be recognized in this way.
Ceci, your father is the one who should have come and sat with you! He should have also encourage others to sit outside and when it became clear people wanted to eat inside he should have come to bring you in. Don't put socially awkward on yourself for this incident. I'm kind of miffed with your dad.
Have a brilliant Sunday.
Greetings all
So sweet little Lizzo went to her new home today. Lovely people. DH decided at the last minute to do a computer background check. They retired from the bay area and moved into their family cabin on this lake. So Lizzo will be a lake resort dog. And she is now Tula. We packed her a bag of her food, our water, a towel that smells like her family and all the paperwork plus chip tag. She curled up and went to sleep in this man's lap. I feel good about this. Walter leaves in a few days. It will take years to put our house back together.
Liz sorry about the loss of your friend. Reminds us all to enjoy our lives and families.
Its pouring rain here and I don't think it was predicted. Pups are zonked now after putting on a good show for these people.
Trip to the store needed.
Cecily I am glad your dinner worked out. I hear you on the social stuff. I am the same. Entertaining is a major trauma because I feel so awkward. But I am sure everyone had a great time.
Peps sorry you are stressed. Rons retirement is a big deal and has more impact on you than you might realize. When my mom retired she stayed in pajamas all day. And any remodeling is stressful. Yikes.
We had a nice steak from Target last night. They have rib eyes that come vacuum sealed as they don't really have a meat counter but its quite good. I think they are aged.
I feel like a nap. For some unknown reason DH thought he had to manicure the front yard and mop the kitchen floor before these people came. Of course, out whole house smells like a kennel, the pups are in a pen in the living room, and the room is filled with boxes, toys, tv tables, furniture that had to be moved to rescue from puppy pillaging, counter tops completely covered with junk, laundry, and on and on. But by god the kitchen floor got mopped with a new fancy mop DH got from who knows where.
At least with the rain the neighbors are not out power washing and operating power tools. Some project is going on and its sure noisy.
Cheers. Diane S
When we first got married, my husband would always decide he needed to clean the garage when we were going to entertain. And it's not like our garage is a hangout. I know some men have a man cave out there, we don't, not even a "beer fridge". So, not the bathroom, not the kitchen, not the dining room. Sometimes other people's priorities are baffling. :)
