I am leaving for my golf lesson in a few minutes. It is very hot again today so I need to wear a hat to keep the sweat out of my eyes. I hate wearing hats because they make me more hot, but I don't have a visor so it will have to be a baseball hat. Tomorrow Mike wants to play 9 holes and have me try golfing on a few of them to get familiar with going out on a course.

Not much else is happening other than beach and going out to dinner tonight. We are visiting our favorite places here one last time before I leave the area on Sunday (we won't return until October). Not good for weight loss, but at least I only eat 1/2 meals or less.

Have a safe and healthy Thursday!

Weight 184. Same. Six mile hike/walk and Pilates yesterday.

I had a guy come out to give me a painting estimate yesterday for everything but the stucco (I can't deal with that right now). But the pergolas, shutters, garage door and people doors will be done. Now just need to get on his schedule.

The cleaning people are coming again today (for you that means another two weeks have flown by!), but they are coming early, so I have to get my butt in gear scooping up the detritus. My second out-to-eat lunch this week was canceled after one of my friends fell into a rose bush and cut herself up quite a bit. Poor thing!

Off to scoop up...

Face first! I know how much a tiny rose bush scratch hurts, I can't imagine a face and two arms full.

Roller coaster week. The owner decided to sell the home we pre-applied to rent. The application and deposit held our spot in the renter pool, but doesn't help us when owner decides to sell. We'll get our deposit back, but we are back to square one. The good news is that I LOVE my Florida haircut and I was 145 this morning. Picture to come.

So many changes for everyone! The rollercoaster of life.

154.8. Was happy to see that today though it's unlikely to last. I'm trying to remain calm about my weight because freakout only leads to the opposite of what I desire.

Many thoughts/observations.

DH and I ventured out to the movies last week. Hurrah. And we really pigged out on popcorn, real coke, M&M's. It was gluttonous. And I noticed it at the time and kind of smiled in spite of myself. It was almost an NSV. This was a step beyond eating the correct portion. It was doing everything I'd taught myself was "wrong" and "shameful" and being okay enough with myself to know that it's just a fun evening out. I could eat right tomorrow. That concept blows my mind. And it made me think back to how I apparently used to consume more calories (one would assume, right?) but I felt so deprived always, so bad about those choices, and everything just felt so hopeless. Years and YEARS I spent doing things like diet coke at the theaters, possibly sharing a small popcorn, sometimes sneaking in my own diet popcorn, and never ever candy. And what did I have to show for it? I was still obese, deprived, and unhappy. Obviously a critical element is that I'm now physically limited by how much I can eat. But at nearly 11 years out, not as much as one would think.

Observation: My aunt is so concerned about the small chance of catching covid after vaccinated, but her mental health and physical health (she's morbidly obese) are in crisis!! I guess I get it. Obesity never seemed like a "crisis." It was always "manageable." Something you slowly became accustomed to the shortness of breath or the introduction of new medicines.

I have felt so connected with my grandparents recently. Maybe it's because my kids have been spending more time with my parents. Or maybe I'm getting old enough to have somewhat of a "golden age" mentality. NOthing gives me quite so much joy as flipping through my grandmother's cookbooks or cookbooks from that vintage. It is a much needed respite from the news of today.

As I was going through one such cookbook the thought occurred to me "my grandparents sure did eat a lot of unhealthy food." And then I paused and wondered if my definition of healthy food has been manipulated. Everything is so driven by fads and advertising now. I'm very suspicious of even things with the label "vegan" now, wondering if it's just a way to make more bucks. My grandparents food might've been carby and fatty, but it was minimally processed. My grandmother even made her own preserves and jam!

Warning--food talk ahead--

Breakfasts were waffles and bacon and homemade biscuits and fried eggs or poached eggs, orange juice, coffee with cream, etc.

Lunch might be a tuna salad sandwich on WHITE bread. Dinner could be any number of fried things--pork chops, chicken, or chili or spaghetti, usually with more carbs on the side. And there was always dessert. Where applesauce counted as a side dish. Maybe they were the exceptions. But I have to think there are 3 big lessons from my current eating and their past eating.

The more processed, the less healthy. The less satisfying. The more caloric. Made at home is best.

Portions, portions, portions. We've grown too accustomed to GIGANTIC portions.

Dont' sit all day. Chasing toddlers I easily clock in 5k+ and usually closer to 10k. That makes a big difference on calories.

Convenient food is caloric food. This goes hand in hand with the processed food. If you have to MAKE something to eat, you're less likely to eat because you're bored! Or maybe you reach for a piece of fruit instead of a cereal bar.

These are just some current meanderings and observations.

I'm still trying to find my happy place. But maybe I'm already here.

Today things are quite cool in the low 50s and overcast. I have chili on the stove. I did swap with turkey. I've got to keep my old husband healthy for years to come LOL.

Interesting observations: "If you have to MAKE something to eat, you're less likely to eat because you're bored". Good point!

Greetings All

Puppies are due tomorrow or soon after. Dogs are usually pretty prompt. DH has asked to be excused of the birthing because he is very squeamish. So thats fine. He can clean up poops. Tesla is still very calm so no signs yet. We will see if she eats tonight.

I am feeding neighbor cat for a few days outside on their deck. I have yet to see the cat and no way of knowing if it eats the cat food or if raccoons get it.

Not much new. I am not being very vigilant about food but my sleeve is still on patrol. Gotta love it. Just ate some chips and guacamole. No where near as much as I might have once eaten. Thats something.

Sorry about the house DianeO. Hope you find something else soon. Bet you do.

BB I knew those girls would keep you hopping! Nice that you have family recipe books. And that you did movies.

Our gallery membership had a member meeting yesterday at a redwood park. Such a lovely place and lovely day. But lordy these people can find more silly stuff to argue about. I saved up my proposal for new computer software until the end of the meeting so everyone would be tired of arguing. I am sneaky.

Thats about it here. Maybe tomorrow I will have puppy news. Diane s
