VSG Maintenance Group
Weight Regain
I had a VSG in 2008. Gained about 20lbs gradually. Of course i have reverted back to my old eating habits. Seems like no matter what i do i cant stay on course. So discouraged &n disappointed in myself. The only positive is i do exercise pretty regularly. can't out exercise a bad diet though. Anyone else found themselves in this position? NEED HELP!!!
I regained 20 pounds a year and a half ago when my DH was failing. I went to WW to get the weight off, focusing on high protein and healthy eating. It took about 4 months or so to lose it.
I ALWAYS keep posting on OH, as it is my most consistent support group. This group is my #1 support group and I also post in the RNY menu thread.
I am back up about 15 due to too much eating out with the new boyfriend and plan to follow the same approach beginning next month.
Good luck!

Come post with us! I yoyo. But I try to learn from them and I'm learning to minimize their damage. I managed to gain 34 pounds during Covid, and took from August through February to get it off. I'm still trying to lose a bit beyond that. We have a daily thread and all are welcome. It's a lot of life stuff, but life stuff influences our eating, so it's all helpful.
It would be amazing if we could flip the switch when we need it. When I get desperate enough, I just start. The first week is really hard, but then it gets so much easier after that with a little first week success. Several of the people in our group have done WW (including me) and had good luck with it from a food choice and accountability standpoint.
Good luck to you!

I have been lurking on this page for years and have never felt confident to speak up, about anything. But I fully commend you for coming forward and speaking your honesty. It gives me bravery. I had VSG in 2014, lost over 100lbs and have now put on about 50 lbs. It started with menopause kicking in right around my 50th birthday in 2018 then my Mom's diagnosis and unbelievably fast, unsuccessful battle with Pancreatic cancer about 4 months later, then family in-fighting, depression and a diagnosis with anxiety disorder and resultant meds for that.
Lots of shame comes with this regain and it colors all aspects of my life. With previous small regains I could get back on track for a week or 2 and it would all come off but now its slow and hard. And the full on truth is that my eating is causing all the problems and I am fairly certain my stomach is really, really stretched out. It's very defeating.
Where I live in Canada you cannot revisit your bariatric surgeon unless you are part of the provincial bariatric program and I was discharged from that 2 yrs post-op. I also have quite bad esophageal reflux and tho I'm on Prevacid it still find my voice gets hoarse occasionally, lots of throat clearing and drippy nose.
I fondly remember when I got to my goal weight telling myself to "remember how this feels and don't ever go back" but I'm on that road. And it all happened in what feels like the blink of an eye. Adulting is hard even at my age. Making the right choices is hard and I realize that the power is within me but I often find myself snacking almost robotically and it's for soothing reasons and then I get down on myself and the vicious cycle continues.
Thanks for letting my vent my spleen. Take care, all.
