You're so right, the more people vaccinated, the better.

Ah, but here's the rub.... From what I have read and heard, those who are vaccinated are not going to come down with symptoms, but will still be silent spreaders.... So unless the info and data have changed or I seriously misunderstood, a vaccine doesn't do too much except protect the person who has had the vaccine. That's why there is the push to get 80% of all citizens vaccinated. Make sense?

I thought this was a good answer to that from health.harvard.edu:

Will the COVID-19 vaccine prevent me from infecting others?

The answer is, we don't know.

Clinical trials of the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines found that both do a good job preventing symptomatic COVID-19 disease, including severe COVID-19. However, the trials did not measure whether a person who is vaccinated is less likely to spread the virus to someone else.

It's possible that the vaccines protect against COVID-19 disease by preventing a person from becoming infected in the first place. However, it's also possible that the vaccine protects a person from COVID-19 illness, but does not prevent a person from becoming infected. In other words, a vaccinated person may have replicating virus in their nose and throat even if they are protected from becoming sick.

I suggested that my 2 SILs (age 70, one obese and HBP and the other with 2 forms of cancer and asthma) come to my place here for a month - we would execute a lease. That and an address change on a bank statement would allow them to get the vaccine here. One SIL says she is counting on it being available in a couple of weeks and assumes there will be plenty of appointments. This in a state where they started to open for a new phase so it would be on schedule but then closed that phase down again because there wasn't enough availability.

Oh my goodness, there was a shooting, 5 injured, some airlifted to a trauma hospital, at the medical clinic my parents go to!!!! Dispatch reports of a bomb going off 30 minutes after the shooting, but that has not been confirmed by law enforcement. People in the area are also reporting they heard a bomb(s). What on earth is going on??? No word yet if the victims were health care workers, or patients or both. One suspect was detained. My parents are safely at home, but how unnerving. This is in as calm and Midwestern type small city as you can imagine.

Watching the local news and just saw 43% of Oklahomans 65 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine. That seems pretty encouraging!

I took the questionnaire and qualify for phase 2. I have pretty serious asthma but I also feel pretty darned healthy. I wonder if I would be taking the vaccine from someone in need, but then I also hear stories about vaccines going bad or not getting out to people and I certainly would rather get one than it going to waste. And I cannot imagine being debilitatingly sick trying to take care of two toddlers. So idk. Seems like we may be up for it sooner rather than later, though.

Sounds like they are doing a reasonably good job of vaccinating seniors. I say take the vaccine when they offer it to you. Like my daughter, if you make it on to some list, your turning it down will not mean the vaccine will go to someone else you think is "more deserving". It's crazy we are even in this situation where we have to consider such things. Hopefully it will get better. Pfizer reported that they are streamlining production and should be able to increase the amount of vaccinations they can ship out.

Good Afternoon All :)

Better late than never huh. I have my case packed and have a bit more than an hours more work before I head to the airport. Have tidied the apartment and left DH little notes that he should find over the next day or so. He was sad I was leaving so I thought finding notes might help. Hes enjoyed having me up here to come home too and I have loved the change in scenery but Im ready to head home. My eldest son is having all 4 Wisdom teeth removed next Tuesday so I need to tackle all the hospital paperwork etc and prepare for when he comes home. Funnily enough hes recovering with me as opposed to his father - not that Im surprised!

I applied for another Administration Manager role yesterday- am hoping I get an interview. Its a tough market out there so time will tell. I just need to keep the guilt at bay for applying as I really am not keen on the hours n hours travel with the potential new company but feel I am letting my current director down..... At the end of the day I need to put my needs first - alien to me but its what needs to be done. Both for my mental wellbeing and also to preserve our cherished family time - The thought of close to 15 hours driving each week just makes me shudder after being spoilt and working from home for years !

So pleased to see some of you getting your vaccine appointments. You are all in my thoughts lots. Australia was very late to the party with ordering of ours and we are finally due to start taking delivery of ours from late this week. They are doing a staged rollout which appears to be similar to the States. Front line workers are first which I am pleased about - followed closely by our elderly and on it goes. DH is in Stage 3 I think and I am Stage 4. I will be relieved once my Mum has received hers and also DH.

I had best run but hope you all have a safe and relaxing evening x

I expect Australia will do a better vaccine roll out than the U.S. They've handled everything else about this dastardly virus better.

I hope the job hunt is fruitful!
