I can not seem to calm myself down this afternoon. One of the parents in my class wrote a looooong letter to the director of curriculum and instruction all about her views on remote instruction and learning. I handled most of it, but OMG! when she called me out for having personal interactions with the kids on Zoom and referred to it as demoralizing, I lost my ****! For example, I mentioned that Shane's family had taken down their Christmas Tree and told Shane how much I enjoyed seeing it behind him every day. That was HORRIBLE because I surely made children feel less than because I didn't enjoy their Christmas trees or perhaps a child didn't celebrate Christmas.... Also that asking about what kids do over the weekend is anti pandemic and anti stay at home orders because it, once again is demoralizing AND encourages the spread of disease! OMFG! Mind you, I tell the kids about my weekends AT HOME and how I fill my time STAYING HOME!
I am soooooo glad I don't have to see this woman anytime soon because today she crossed my line. I have a mouthful I'd like to share with her, but of course, I can't.... She's been a piece of work and bulldozer since her kid arrived here in Kindergarten.
I wish I could invite her to do my job. I would enjoy the humor in seeing her manage what I do every single day.
Peps,
This is what happens educationally (and especially with remote learning) when personal interaction and not SEEING/RELATING to the student as a person of worth ( not just some empty vessel into which education is dumped) :
{. NOTHING HAPPENS .}
YOU MAKE ALL YOUR STUDENTS MORE RECEPTIVE TO LEARNING BECAUSE OF YOUR INDIVIDUAL INTEREST IN THEM. I survived my dysfunctional child life and adolescence because of teachers just like you. Carry on, sir!
