One year since DH died. It still is unbelievable to live in a world without him in it even though his mind had been going for years. DS asked if we could go to church today, which surprised me as he has not generally wanted to be inside public places for long and generally isn't a churchgoer. But it is a very large church and should be very quiet right now. DH went to church every wee****il he couldn't, so I think that is why DS wants to go.

I have laundry to do today in preparation for flying to Florida tomorrow but not much else required other than putting the trickle charger on the car and a bit of packing. I just checked the seats on the plane and it looks about the way the one down did which was essentially half full so I will likely have a row to myself again. But I am not worried since by all accounts including the CDC, I am immune until at least 2/26.

Have a safe and healthy day.

I posted this? How is it a deactivated member, and I can assure everyone I wasn't posting at 6:30am? Weird.

Shirl, The Christmas festival often falls hard on the shoulders of the Mom in charge. My Auntie was the keeper of Christmas Eve for my extended family. Once I was an adult, I realized how selflessly she worked to put on the celebration for all of us, but I just took it as my due when I was young. Good for you to set up some parameters. Keep your cooking and clean up rules, and add more. If they're like I was at that age, they are probably unaware about the toll on you.

Or, it could be like a conversation I had with DH once when the kids were young, me: Do you want me to do everything around here? DH: yes, of course I do! Who wouldn't? It might not be fair, but why wouldn't I like you to take care of everything? His honesty opened up my eyes to the need to speak up. (For the record, he does pull his weight, but I get what he was saying).

Liz, I think it is lovely that DS is "standing in" for his father in church this morning.

The world outside our windows is beautiful. No sign of sun and everything is flocked in a soft mat powder white. Simply put, a winter wonderland. Yesterday Swann and I were encased in the feather pillow snowfall that created all this- I tried but could not recall when the last time was that I was out and about (not just car to building...) in such a snow.

Church this late morning, then Chiefs play at 3:30- this is a game where they are the underdogs. I just sort of watch and will probably be boxing up some of the Christmas stuff.

Go Chiefs!

There are those snowfalls that make you feel like you are in a snowglobe, and everything is hushed and magical. There can be much beauty even in a desolate season.

Yes, just that.

Thinking of you today, Liz.

Weight down 0.2.

I had a nice walk yesterday. Winter here is pretty nice, I must say. 66 and sunny. 64 and sunny today.

Tried to paint my toes yesterday in my pursuit of being less frumpy and found I couldn't! Between shaky hands and no good glasses solution (too far away for readers, too close for distance) I made a huge mess and had to take it all off. Sigh. Aging!

I got a bunch of fruits and veggies yesterday so I will try to incorporate more of those this week.

Another walk today and maybe some cleaning out I didn't do yesterday. Oh, and I have a video call with my friend who moved back to the UK later. Boo the the video part, yay to the call part.

DD, your beef bourguignon looked delish!

Cecily, I've discovered it is okay to paint outside the lines on your toe nails. I splash on the polish, make sure it's smooth on the nail bed, but don't care if it's on my skin. Later when it's dried hard, I put my feet under the running bathtub faucet and scrub vigorously with just a washcloth. All the polish on my skin miraculously peels off and goes down the drain, while the polish on my toe nails remains, unscathed. My bigger challenge is shaping my toenails, bifocals aren't working too well here either.

Ooh! I'll try that! Thanks!
