Christmas Day, 2020
Merry Christmas to all!
It is 60 here on Cape Cod and was only 52 in Fort Lauderdale Florida. It has been a truly strange year.
DS is making enough food for our previous holiday gatherings though there will only be 5 of us. I guess everyone will take a lot of food home.
Have a wonderful day filled with good memories!

Merry Christmas!
Woke up with a strong drive to get on the scale. Had to do a little bargaining with myself to get it to pass.
Not much going on today. Dropping off presents to my brother and his family then making dinner for Ron, BFF, and Kathryn. Doing a very non traditional dinner (for us) - a Julia Child recipe for Poulet Supremes (boneless, skinless chicken breasts - but doesn't Poulet Supremes sound fancier?LOL) in a paprika cream sauce. YUM!!!! I'll serve that with spinach and mashed potatoes. I'm looking forward to a low key evening with close friends.
BFF gave me food for stocking stuffers, including a bag of Reese's thins, which is a major trigger candy. My feelings were a little hurt because he KNOWS how dedicatedly I have been working on my Eating Disorder. He also gave me one of those tins of different flavored popcorns. Luckily, I am feeling strong and in control enough to withstand such obstacles, but I expected more consideration from BFF.
Hoping everyone has a wonderful day, no matter how removed from tradition it may be. I'm glad to be here to enjoy it!
Greetings Dear Elves
Its a super low key Christmas for us. We are not going to the friends house as in the past so they did a drive by and gave us a ham dinner and gifts. I had gifts for them but only had short notice of when they were coming by so had to rush to wrap! Its amazing how little it takes to stress me out. But I had made my famous pate for those who love it and had some fancy wine and other good stuff.
DH found an Aretha Christmas album on apple music so that was part of the day. Also Pentatonix christmas music.
Of course I saved some pate for myself and I have a few crackers. So much of Christmas is about eating.
Peps I hear you on the candy from good friend. We were given a box of candy this year which remains unopened. We were also given two huge loaves of cranberry nut bread. I would take all unwanted food to studio but we can't put food out there anymore due to covid. These are people who know of our weight struggles and what we have been through. One I guess I excuse because she is of modest means and is caring for disabled husband. Oh well.
Tis the season of weird dreams. the other night I dreamed I was at my mom's house and cleaning up all kinds of cardboard and birdseed and yelling about it and no one hearing me. I often have dreams of having to clean up junk which I think relates to DH's hoarding. All I want for Christmas is an empty closet.
And last night was a small storm but Tesla was terrified and was digging at the rug all night. Then she went and sat in a laundry basket full of discard clothes and dug in that.
Hope everyone has a great holiday. Hugs to all.

We have had a very nice day, although much colder than both the Cape and California. Unlike Peps it was important that I weigh myself, and so I finally did. The damage was not as extensive as I thought. Whew! So not weighing, definitely a therapeutic exercise for Peps, weighing a necessary step for me to stop the ostriching.
My husband bought me a Le Crueset Dutch oven. I actually teared up. We have made choices over the years like my being a stay at home Mom, while DH worked in retail management. Our financial life has always been modest. All the extra $ went to the kids when they were younger. One year my new clothes budget was $50. I share all this, not to complain, because I made those choices willingly, but to say why this gift moved me so much. I never, ever, get the top of the line. I don't even really know if it is that much better than a less expensive brand. But my husband knew I wanted a Dutch oven, and instead of just a utilitarian piece, he bought me something beautiful, a piece of art, the unspoken message, you are worthy of this.
Like everyone else, we are overwhelmed by all our food. If you want a piece of the traditional rum cake, you have to make the whole cake, right? You can shop for a smaller ham, but it's still going to be a lot more than you can eat.
Tomorrow, a quick, masked visit to my parents, and then my son and his girlfriend are going to use my new ninja air fryer/instapot (another gift) to make us dinner Saturday evening.
Enjoy the rest of the Christmas Weekend!

I love the story of the Dutch oven! It will last a lifetime and give you warm fuzzies every time you use it. Which is I think what everyone hopes for when giving gifts, but we rarely hit on that perfect, meaningful present.
For leftovers, I sent a bunch home with my dad/wife and threw out the rest including half a pie. I did it when I was overstuffed and not wanting another bite. If I had kept it, I would have found room for unneeded, calorie-expensive foods tomorrow and the next day. This ensures the holiday is over. And there were a LOT of leftovers. I have never mastered cooking small holiday meals for 3 people. My recipes are all for 12ish.
We had a really nice time and binge watched Ted Lasso on AppleTV+. I knew they'd love it! We didn't exchange gifts this year, just stocking stuffers and it was perfect. None of us needs anything, so this was just a few low stress, fun things. Anyway, it was a lovely day.
Congratulations on disposing of the calories you don't need. I was just reminding my husband of that notion: We can decide what the serving size is. The garbage disposal is a diet aide. And you're so right, which has the higher cost? Eating excess food because it's there, long after it holds any pleasure, is expensive indeed.
Good for you disposing of the leftovers!
