Tuesday Election Day, 2020
We voted "early" last night. I didn't realize the polling place was actually open, but it was. We had our ballots filled out and ready to drop, so we did. I had more trouble with some of our state propositions than anything else. I had to do a lot of homework on two initiatives. In the end, I was happy with my decisions.
I will watch election coverage sporadically this evening. I am, again, more interested in some of the state issues (commercial property tax, rent control, Uber/Lyft driver employment status, affirmative action...).
Weight is creeping down, with no intent on my part. Perhaps fallout from my NUT appointment on Friday. I didn't even WANT a flippin' Reese's cup yesterday. I brought the unopened bag to our school's Kid's Club. They have up to 28 kids in 4 different cohort groups doing online school. The director said she would be able to use them as treats since she has no kids with allergies at the moment. So good... Those are now gone! Though, I still have the remainder of the opened bag.... Perhaps those will go to the kid across the street.
Built in Closet Organizer Saga continues. %$#@!!!!!! The correct built ins were supposed to be installed today. Got a call from the regional manager telling me that the install was not going to happen because when our project supervisor "left the company" (FIRED) he had not put in the order as we had specified, nor left directions on the install or measurements, or.... So, the RM sent an installer to take notes, interview us, draw up the specs and get it done correctly. Our 4 week turn around is turning into a 4 month turn around. To top it off, the former supervisor billed and debited my card for the completed job (I'm sure to get his commission). Regional Manager was very kind, respectful, apologetic etc.... Will find out the outcome of the installer visit once I get home.
I am finding it interesting the many different reactions people have to politics and the current political climate. Ceci's comments about Marxism triggered a realization about my own reactions. I have found myself getting my tighty whities in a wad over the use of terms like communism, socialism, Marxism during this political season. I have found the use of those words to be used for scare tactics because people don't really understand the ideologies behind them. So the terms are loosely thrown about (with extreme self righteousness by some).
Our country is a constitutional republic. Since the ratification of 16th amendment in 1913 which allowed for the imposition of a federal income tax and the social programs instituted in the Great Depression we have become a constitutional socialist republic, whether we want to admit that or not. But I've just gotta say, that Social Security and Medicare are socialistic programs, plain and simple. I can't think of anyone I know who wants programs like medicare and social security to disappear. Headstart, VA services, Police and Firefighter pensions all social programs paid for with tax dollars. That's what the ideology of socialism is about - taking care of one's own. Okay, off my soap box.
Food/eating.... I have noticed a distinct difference since Friday in my physical needs and emotional needs for food. My physical need for food is far less than my emotional need for food. My eating disorder brain finds this knowledge somewhat threatening. The sane, rational part of my thinking is feeling a relaxed sigh. Am fascinated by where this is taking me. Wherever I'm going it is at a leisurely pace. Oh well.... hats off to the commitment to do it differently.

Final election predictions: Biden will win. But not as handily as the polls suggest. We may not know for another day or two.
...But I was reeeeallly shocked in 2016. Things that seem different to me: (I'm in super red territory so this may feel quite a bit different where you are) I know they say Hillary had higher unlikeables. But it almost seemed like it was a wash because she DID have people who liked her. I remember so many of my female counterparts, especially women lawyers, who were sooooooooo excited to vote for her. I don't sense any of that enthusiasm for Biden. However, it's a lot harder to dislike Biden than it was Hillary Clinton. which is why I call it a wash.
I think Coronavirus is the biggest factor this year. But I also think the factor that "omg Trump CAN win" will turn out opponents, even if they aren't fired up about Biden. And ultimately this is why I think Biden will win. In my congressional district **** is getting more and more urban and more and more democrat, but we are in Oklahoma after all!) a democrat won a house seat 2 years ago. I think she won because the base assumed the Republican would win. This time I think she'll lose because they know that it's possible, and the Republicans will turn out in droves (doesn't hurt that Trump will win probably ALL 77 counties in Oklahoma and few will split their ballot). Anyway, point being, I think a lot more Democrats have/will vote because they know the consequences of not doing so 4 years ago.
But we'll see.
I'm surprised to hear that there are so many Trump flags in (is it New York?). I forget where Liz is in FL but I can believe it there. And I think he'll carry Florida. When we were in Ft. Myers I was STUNNED. Okie saw much more outspoken Trump support in Florida than anywhere in Oklahoma. Maybe it's because we don't have to?
DD was talking about the civility and niceties of the rural communities she grew up in. Obviously there are some political/cultural differences to these places. But I really love my peeps. I know it's an unusual year with covid. And I hope we don't see an increase in Covid attributable to voting. But I really REALLY like voting in-person. I waited 1.5 hours on a GORGEOUS fall day and talked with my neighbors. I have an idea of how they might've been voting. But they're just good, nice, salt of the earth people. We need to do things that cause us to remember that!! My church's message this year is "love thy neighbor, no exceptions." There was no shouting, and any political talk was curtsied around. It was mostly us admiring the political process, in awe over the mother with 4 small children (6 and under) who was waiting with us, talking about the storm damage, etc. Beautiful
Definitely beautiful! We need to respect one another and "love thy neighbor, no exceptions".

It got up to 70 today. DH was off because he worked Sunday, so as I was getting off work, DH was putting the kayaks on the car. What an incredible evening, stayed on the lake until the sun set. So we went home, relaxed and prepared for the evening.
We stopped to buy some diet coke, DH came out of the store, phone pressed to his ear. Damn it 2020!! His younger sister has breast cancer. They can't stage it for sure until she has an MRI, but they think Stage 2. She will probably start with chemo to shrink the tumor, then a lumpectomy, and probably radiation. She and I had our 1st babies (daughters) in 1992, our 2nd babies (sons) in 1995, and now our cancer together in 2020. Sigh.
OMG Diane! Well let's plan on the fact that you both will have beaten cancer together too.
