Weight 125.8, down another .4, putting me 2.8 over range.

One day to the election. An individual we know who works for an important government agency says that they are on the alert for potential violence, but hopefully that won't happen. What is this country coming to? I hope we get back to more sane times soon.

Mike and I had a great day at the beach yesterday. Swimming in the Gulf is so different from the Atlantic on his side. We can bob around in the swells, here. On the other side of Florida I couldn't get fully wet without expecting to be engulfed by a wave at any moment.

Today will be cooler and windy, so we will probably take a walk with Justice by the river south of us this afternoon. This morning I am walking with my friends here.

And Nana (SIL) meets her new grandson today!!!!

Have a safe, healthy and optimistic day!

Weight: 157.6

I don't understand. I may have to take a scale break for a week. It jumped suddenly from 152.6-156-158 about 6 days ago and has been staying. I do feel like I'm holding water weight as my rings aren't fitting but still. And my screwy thinking has made me already hungrier than usual today. But my plan, after I finish this third cup of joe lol, is to drink water, hopefully get lots of steps in/exercise over the next couple weeks, and really be aware of portion sizes and the girls' halloween candy.

I cannot figure out what is going to happen tomorrow. And I wish I could say "it'll all be over tomorrow" but I don't think we'll be so lucky. But at least it'll be over...soon. It's so weird to me that our neighboring TX is supposedly a swing state. Which I think means 1 of 2 things: 1) Biden is in for a really good night, or 2) the polls are wayyy off everywhere including Texas (where Hillary lost by 9). Guess we'll find out...eventually.

I doubt violence here but I am sad that there are real threats elsewhere.

Are you all waiting to decorate for Christmas? I love Christmas and have lots of decorations but I just love fall too much to skip Thanksgiving. Plus I have lots of pilgrims, cornucopias, and I'm hosting Thanksgiving.

I plan only on voting tomorrow. I have no idea what the polls will look like. Early voting was 4.5 hour long liners so I sure hope it doesn't look that way tomorrow. Still unsure what to cook for tomorrow. Rich might be late if the lines after work are long so I'm thinking crockpot. Maybe beef barbacoa tacos, or barbecue beef sandwiches. Or maybe a chicken and rice casserole. I'll watch the returns. What about you? I think it'll be a long night since they probably won't be able to call some of the battleground states until mail-in are tabulated.

Several friends are still without power 7 days later and estimates tell them no power until 11/6. How awful

Weight down 0.6 for the week. Not stellar, but considering this week I was evacuated for a fire, threw my back out, spent 2 days laying down on painkillers, and still can't take a normal walk, I'm okay with it!

As expected, last night's trash can fill was hard! I don't have any more stuff that is begging to be tossed. I barely got this one filled, but went through my stash of tea bags (I don't drink much since going back to the diet coke dark side and much was really expired), the tool bench that had a lot of non-tool stuff, the candle drawer with partially burnt candles, some pantry shelves, some brackets that went with the window box that already went to the dump... a hodgepodge of things large and small.

Liz, I think the problem is that we keep getting more and more polarized in our beliefs with more polarizing candidates. And we've devolved into this team mentality where beating up someone rooting for the other team in the parking lot is acceptable to a lot of people. Civility, compromise, and faith in our political system is rapidly disappearing. I'm not looking forward to this week no matter the outcome of the election.

BB, normally I dread the early approach of Christmas. Christmas music in stores in October sets my teeth on edge. But I admit this year to watching Hallmark Christmas movies already! They are comforting in this crappiest of years. I don't think I'll decorate early, but hope to right after Thanksgiving instead of dragging my feet until it's almost too late to get it all up only to take it all down.

The world may be falling apart, but my hair will be brown while it happens! I have a hair appointment today, talk therapist later. I might pick up some groceries too.

Have a good day!

Maybe we should all watch uplifting Christmas movies tomorrow. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said "Civility, compromise, and faith in our political system is rapidly disappearing." Which is just awful, really.

Good Morning All

Popping in quickly ... been a very busy long weekend around the city house - veggie patches are finished - yay. First cut on new grass has been done. Have also spread dirt on other side ready to lay grass seed next week when puppies are up at the farm. We pressure cleaned the deck roof, back of the house and deck.Oiled it yesterday - may do another coat today - need to oil the sleeper walls and touch up a couple of areas on the house. Its looking nice and fresh. But first we are treating ourselves to a cafe brekkie if we can get a booking - its a public holiday and we have not been out for so long ! After that there are 3 smelly dogs that need a bath.

Our week is shaping up nicely. DSS and his family coming for dinner tommorrow night and my youngest DS and his partner coming for dinner Thursday night. We will pack and head to the farm Friday - DH will then stay there for 6 or so weeks. I will come home Sunday to an empty house. It will be weird but Im looking forward to it. Eldest DS moves home after his exams on 18/11

Have been watching the election news and hope that everything goes ok with you all and there is no violence. Hard to get my head around it all as Im sure it is with you guys

Well I had best dash. Need to wake DH.

Have a wonderful evening all and be safe x

I'm glad you are seeing everyone again. I thought of you when I read that Massachusetts is locking down more beginning Friday: Curfew at 10, establishments close at 9:30, greatly reduced gathering numbers, full-time mask wearing regardless of distance (right now they are not required if more than 6 feet apart). I am glad I am in Florida, but here they seem to be pretending that nothing is happening in many places. At least I got lots of toilet paper today!

Sorry to hear about the lockdown- DH and I commented the other day- we are coming out n into summer- you guys are going into winter as is Europe. Wont be fun. Thankful to have had 3 day of zero cases- hoping we have stemmed the second wave as I dont think many could mentally cope with a third lockdown. Im smiling watching our town wake up- people are cheerful as they go about their day.

Off to wash 3 smelly puppies then finish the painting

When I was 15, I got to call in the election results from my little city to a national data center that reported info to the news. It was some kind of youth in Government 4H project. So I arrived at my little city's town hall (population 2000) an hour before the polls closed. I got to watch them sort and count the paper ballots (they were half sheets of regular paper). They had several different election judges count each pile to make sure the numbers agreed. It was both very serious, but casual at the same time. I was only calling in presidential numbers and I remember they handed me a slip of paper with the tallies for Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter. I used a phone, hanging in the kitchen of the town hall. Several hours of hanging around on a school night, just to speak these numbers into the phone. (Then I had to call my Dad to pick me up). But it was so informative, a look behind the curtain. For years, and years, I remembered the men (remember 1970s), some of whom I knew, efficiently, seriously following their protocols, calling out the final tally, writing it down for me. Civility. I assumed votes were always tallied like this, by community members who were only interested in doing it right. I grew up in a conservative, evangelical community. I miss these good people so much. They would never steal someone's yard signs, form caravans, yell at people, call me a libertard. I could list a lot of social ills from the 70s, some of which we handle better now, so it wasn't Mayberry, but, the kindness, the civility, I do so miss it.

Kindness, civility and respect! What has happened to them?

Greetings All

Halloween festivities went fine. Kids were good with the candy out on the tv tray and even took just one. They could see us watching. Lots of leftover candy though and I must get rid of it. I used to take it to the studio but we are not supposed to bring food there due to covid. Used to be there was a veritable buffet of stuff all the time including fruit from people's trees.

A huge fog bank rolled in this afternoon. I had to turn the lights on. I so love its coolness and its long overdue.

My favorite Halloween costume this year: a friend's husband is a commercial airline pilot. He put on a pilot uniform, dark glasses, white cane and a dog wearing a pilot jacket. Blind airline pilot!!!

DD I so love your story of the vote counting. What a great experience. I knew a poli-sci professor who took his class to observe the process. Now I expect there is too much security concern. I sure hope tomorrow goes smoothly. Can't believe walmart thought they had to take guns off shelves but glad they are thinking about it.

For those who have gained a little; I think your scales know its Halloween and calculate in a candy factor. My theory.

Well dogs are bugging me for food. Better get going. I just ate a half bag of skinny pop. not cool
