Good Morning All - Super quick pop in as Im just home from Hospital :( My Saturday night didnt go as I had planned.....
After a productive day incl going to mums and taking her groceries etc I came home and was making risotto. Went to push the air fryer in to the corner a little more as it was beside the cooker - it knocked a carving knife off the knife strip and you guessed it - bam straight into my pointer finger. I knew it was bad so pressure bandage and finish cooking tea, dishwasher on and DH drove me to Emergency. He couldnt come in. Waited for hours to be seen - when they did look at it they couldnt get the bleeding to stop even under compression and tourniquet. Hmmm it appears to have sliced a vessel or arterty so I was put in half plaster cast with compression and kept in a ward overnight. DH picked me up at 830am this morning. I am due to report to another hospital at noon to see their plastics team. Have been COVID tested in preparation for possible surgery. UGGGGG who knew a simple freak accident could cause so much mischief. Im typing with left hand and thumb - works :)
I am fasting since midnight so thats a bonus as who know when I will be able to eat again. Gotta see the upside in all things this crazy life throws at you....
So I may be AWOL for the next day or so - not sure whats happening till I see the plastics team
Love to you all - and if anyone wants a champion knife sharpener - my DH is available. Our knives are tested to be incrediably sharp! Im off to bag my hand and shower before the next stint.

OhOHOHOHOH!!! The back of my knees just went wibble wobble on your behalf. Possibly an artery in your pointer finger? Good Lord, girl...you know, you do not (You may think coming from a continent of crazily created lizards and such--) have the ability to regrow that appendage. So, after you get that boo boo fixed, it's plastic cutlery for you!

Back from surgery about 1.5 hrs ago & DH is on his way to pick me up. He will arrive as curfew starts so fingers crossed we dont get stopped on the way home. Have paperwork etc if needed
Surgery was a success. Done under local block so I didnt need to stay another night. I had knicked the tendon & chipped knuckle along with the slicing. Not one to do things by halves huh. Im in a sling n off work for a week- not to use the hand. I will then start hand therapy etc.
Surgeon said if the knife had landed horizontally rather than vertically it would have cut the tendon & that would have been 4 weeks in plaster! Im exhausted- 1 hours sleep last night but thankful for the wonderful treatment Ive received from an amazing team of professionals. Will be wonderful to sleep in my own bed tonight- nearly as good as the sandwich they bought me after 19 hr fast n cup of tea after 12 hrs nil fluids
