My BFF married her high school boyfriend. He was/is charismatic and can be a lot of fun. He was also a controlling, gaslighting, selfish, baby man. They married very young, and she left him after 30 years of marriage. It's been 10years, and she is so happy now. And I have to admit, I too, am happy I never have to deal with him ever again. It is totally okay to not be married, for many reasons. I hope your friend can find a path to the life she wants.

I hope so too. She said she is hoping they can hold off divorce until her 13 year old finishes high school. I would never tell someone they need to divorce, but I did tell her when the relationship between mom and dad is tense and makes the house an unhappy place, no child who's parents hung on until after high school finished to divorce is going to find those years to be good ones. As crushing as divorce can be, living in a house where two people should have divorced long ago is not a comfort.
And he's totally gaslighting her and a lot of signs he may be cheating too.
You friends husband sounds like an ********he needs to jettison. Sorry for the language but... And yes the child likely knows exactly what's going on and maybe will respect her for doing it at least ultimately.
Marriage is only good when it is really good. Close friendships can be more important. In fact I think a marriage only works if they are your best friend, IMHO.

Greetings Thin Ones
I so love the concept of Thin Places. Liz your picture is surely one. Not clear where the sea ends and the sky begins. Yep, when we see thin places we can remember Shel. Hiking into a thin place. Hmmm, I think I will make the stink eye goat into a wine stopper.
So today I did some cooking. Made a meatloaf to be baked a little later. By supper time I am too tired to cook much so make ahead is best.
BB I am jealous that you have a football team to watch. Our season was cancelled. Maybe I will adopt Oklahoma (sacrilege for a native Nebraskan).
Well the cantaloup colored sky has turned to smoke. I did a gallery day yesterday and it was not too bad but I kept the door closed. There are no fires within at least 50 miles of us but the marine layer holds the smoke in. Peps, are you there and safe? Let us her from you.
Cecily you are a good friend to listen to your troubled friend. Thats about all you can do for her and its a lot. It might get tiresome but she needs you to listen.
Speaking of friends, I spoke to one of my high school friends who just got home from rehab hospital after breaking a leg. She has months of PT ahead of her. Not even her husband could visit her at the hospital so she is glad to be home. But she has a very rough road ahead. She was using a scooter at times before the fall, due to several prior falls and being MO. She got a lap band years ago but never did much with it and I fear she will never walk again. So all of you out there, maintain your mobility (note to self: maintain your mobility dummy!!!)
Am I the oldest one here? Closing in on age 69 very soon.
Anyone else think covid is making their fingernails grow faster? I keep mine short and I swear all the tv time plus less activity is making them grow fast. Ditto hair.
We have started watching Last Tango in Halifax. Very funny.
Cheers. Diane S
Yep on fingernail growth, maybe hair. I am 65 but my favorite people are all turning 70 this year.
