Ceci, so glad you got your AC fixed so quickly !! DD, the drive in experience sounds like such fun ! Peps, I feel your planning pain !! Liz, enjoy your island adventure. The weather continues to be very autumnal here...cold nights and warm days. I'm going to dig out and wash the electric blanket for the RV. DC's sister and Aunt announced that they'll come rent a place in SC while we're there.....

Weight 121. Still hanging in after yet another BBQ yesterday. Amazing!
I am counting my blessings after touching base with friends from my support group. One lost his wife of 52 years this week. By all accounts she was an extraordinarily lovely woman from all perspectives and he is one of the kindest men I have ever met. He drove 90 miles to see me at DH's wake, just talked to me as he didn't know anyone else, then drove back home. The wake for his wife is here on the Cape on Friday so I don't have to do much to make it. Another friend just got her husband out of the hospital after 11 days. He was sent there for "behavior issues" like my DH and even though they were able to get him calm and alert (unlike my DH), the facility wouldn't take him back (the same one DH was at). She had to move him to a different one which is more tolerant of Alzheimer's behavior issues. I feel so glad that I don't have the same anguish anymore.
This morning a hummingbird flew all around me on the deck while I was talking to Mike. He said maybe it was a good omen, so I googled what a hummingbird sighting is supposed to mean:
"The meaning of a hummingbird visit is to show you that there's an area of your life that calls for you to be more flexible, to bend like a willow without breaking like a mighty oak. It's fluidity versus rigidity. In other words, try not to get too stuck in your ways."
"Hummingbirds represent inspiration and hope, and can be a guiding light that can move you closer to fulfilling your dreams."
"Hummingbirds often appear in your life after a season of big change, and they are a positive omen after a period of turmoil that signifies things are being pieced back together. You may have gone through a big challenge in your life recently that has forced you to confront limiting beliefs that have held you back. A hummingbird is appearing to you so that you can reconnect with your core essence to rebuild your life from a foundation that aligns with your true purpose. "
"Hummingbirds remind us to live in the moment and enjoy life's simple pleasures. Also, because they often seem to appear out of nowhere, they remind us that joy is unpredictable and can often be just around the corner."
Have a safe, healthy, and social day!

Since I have no adventures of my own design, Swann was more than happy to provide one yesterday. Out and about for a walk- Swann slipped his harness in the yard (caught on branch in one of his playground areas) Off he ambles...I was sure he was heading down to a favorite felled tree toward the NW part of the property- but no- and we were off to the races. Map shows my route- I have no earthly idea of his- After some time and much calling, I headed to the house to get a whistle figuring he would be out of my vocal range and found him waiting for me right in front of the gate to his yard. I was following some of the paths we often take- there are others well beyond- what if he got lost- or worse? Immeasurable relief. All I could do was tell him what a good dog he was and so smart to know home. Order in for a martingale to use as back up on walks.
for scale, the house sits on about 2.5 acres.
Now for the cold, hard truth that will (hopefully begin) to set me free. Following the courageous Shirl, I got on the scales. 173.4. Nuff said for the moment.

Scale moved down slightly today. It's so unbelievably HOT. But as they say, at least it's a dry heat. Lots of cities reaching temps they've never reached before ever. I took Ferg out for a potty break at 9 last night. It was 99 degrees. Thank God my a/c got fixed!
Anyway, I'm just staying inside in the cool air watching movies. Not exciting, but very comfortable!
Diane, send some of that cooling autumn this way please!!
It's hot as blazes here, too. Currently 105 in the shade. Doing our best to stay cool. The electric company is recommending cooling well below normal during the early hours and resetting thermostats to 78-80 from 3pm - 9pm. Currently we are set at 69 to get the house super cool before the projected spike to 110-112. Ugh.....
Weight popped back up to 266, as expected, and has stayed here for 3 days. Not surprising - heat, muscle repair, and too many carbs of the simple kind yesterday. Interesting how I'm am learning to accept the number on the scale as information rather than judgement.
The heat, hectic school week, and a holiday weekend are all adding up to equal a nice sluggish day. I groomed this morning and npow we are watching 50 First Dates. Feet up, kicked back and not feeling guilty for not getting stuff done because it's just too damn hot to do anything but lounge! LOL!

They tell us that too, the pre-cooling thing. But I find the house heats up so quickly once you turn the thermostat up, it strikes me as pointless. It hit 121 in Woodland Hills today. The highest temperature ever recorded in LA County! It's "clouding" over here now. It's smoke from somewhere, though as far as I know we don't have any fires in the county. The Santa Ana winds are kicking in tomorrow and that could be a real disaster if we get any fires.
Greetings All You Toasty People
I guess not everyone is hot but most of us are. It will be hot here today - in the 70's. As a holiday weekend and the only not hot place in CA, tourists are swarming.
Today is DH birthday. I got a couple of lemon cupcakes for a birthday cake and have a decent dinner planned. I had wanted us to go to one of the more obscure beaches here and take the old dog and look for beach rocks but DH does not want to do that today. with the tourist hoards. So we will wait until mid week.
So I had ordered DH a new recliner chair several months ago since his old one fell apart. Arrived yesterday so its his birthday present. We will see if it lasts 20 plus years like the old one. I doubt it. But it looks nice. Now if I could only get him to toss half his junk.
Cecily I am SOOOOO glad you got your AC fixed. Essential. I fear more covid outbreaks with this hot weekend and everyone at the water.
DD, so you took an extended tour of your farm thanks to Swan. Good doggie. Glad you are both safe and that your DH has some time to take you around.
Liz so glad you and Mike are still going well. Yep, there are indeed good people out there.
No more snake tar-tar here.
I canned tomatoes with some friends the other day. What a lot of work. Not sure I will do that again but he 10 jars of tomatoes will be good. And it was a fun visit. We have another event with same folks tomorrow. 5 people so fairly safe.
Thats about it. Clean laundry is piling up as I can't seem to get it put away. Its because I have too may clothes I don't wear which I need to toss; thereby making room in the drawers and such.
BB your trip looks so fun. Glad you did it.
Bye now. Diane S
