VSG Maintenance Group

Peps, sorry about your gym ! I really have to figure out what to do with the Y. As I mentioned to Diane in my reply to her post yesterday, the drastic changes slated for reopening and my level of comfort at returning at all make the monthly expense unwise. My Medicare plan includes Silver Sneakers coverage, which I can use many places. Our Covid numbers are continuing to decrease in this region, with active numbers in the single digits and declining with ongoing testing. We had lunch on the outdoor deck of a favorite restaurant yesterday, and while tables have been removed and appropriately spaced, it still feels odd to see people with faces uncovered while eating. We employ the premise that wine will help protect us (NOT). The deck work continues a few hours every morning, as the deck is in full sun and temps have been in the low 80's. Somehow our flooring order got screwed up and we were notified that it had arrived at Lowes and it was ready for pick up. Are you kidding me ? They straightened things out, but our delivery won't be until the end of June.
DD, thinking of you and updating your children. How did that go? Liz, I saw your daughter's FB post and her joy at seeing you was certainly evident. I laughed at all of the stories everyone shared of previous purchases that sit in boxes until rediscovered ! Ceci, I'm eager to hear how your work on cleaning debris is going with this week's session.
I continue to be so grateful to all of you for sharing your journeys. The fact that we identify and work to address challenges is such a significant contrast to the many years I looked at my goal as a fixed number and destination. I continue to be in awe of our matriarch's vision when creating this site :
This group is being created to provide additional support to vsg patients who are at or near goal and working on the lifelong project of maintaining. All are welcome to post including preops and other wls patients since maintenance is a concern for us all. Hope we can get some good discussions going with tips, stories, problems and support. Lets make this a fun group!
Kudos, Diane

Hi Diane! Thank for reiterating the vision. We do use this group to its fullest.

DD's apartment is quite nice. Roomy, with lots of light and more storage than I have ever seen for a one bedroom apartment. She really does need more furniture though and needs to spread out what she has. He last apartment was about half the size. We ended up going out for a late lunch vs dinner (outside). It was quite nice but she has such fair skin that she got sunburnt from driving in my convertible with the top down. LOL! I got home around 7 and didn't know what to eat so had a little of this and a little if that and ended up with cereal. Which then gave me a stomachache. Payback!
It is nice out right now - a bit humid so I think it will be quite warm today. I will probably go to the beach for a bit after the laundry is done.
Procrastination...Do you think it should be on the symptom list for individuals likely to require WLS? I can put some things off for such long periods of time that I forget them entirely. It is part of the reason I have to keep lists though some items linger for quite a while.
Have a safe and healthy Friday!

I think procrastination is a coping mechanism of many people and certainly not relegated to the MO community. That said, it wouldn't surprise me if a great many obese people have procrastination tendencies. I doubt all obese people are prone to procrastination, but i'm sure there are a good number of us who are.
Feeling very daring today as we begin getting ready to stay in a hotel!!! It's so important that we had already planned this visit, before my diagnosis, because my son became very emotional when I told him about it. It will be very good for all of us to be together. My daughter is sad, but I think she wasn't as gobsmacked because she is right here seeing it unfold, instead of hearing about it on the phone. We are so lucky to have her with us, she will be a lot of help.
The thing that keeps troubling me now is having to go into the hospital by myself, and having to wait to see my husband until I'm discharged. I'm trying not to dwell on it.
I'm all for the medicinal power of wine, (or fruity little drinks because I can't shoot whiskey, thanks Carrie Underwood).
I'm glad you have the visit this weekend. Enjoy it and some good wine!

The power washing was a satisfying success, removing what a scrub brush couldn't budge. And I got 4 plants in the ground and then realized I need more. I know that things look better in odd numbered groupings, why did I only get 4 of the one plant?? I put three in one empty area and one in another. Must go back for 2 more to balance things out. And maybe a few flowers to break up all the shrubs. I did get to use a fancy narrow shovel (I think meant for trench digging) I bought probably 5 years ago and never used. It cut through the clay-heavy soil like a hot knife through butter and was the perfect size to make a deep hole for one gallon plants. It's corect what they say about the right tool for the job making everything easier.
My snacking was more controlled yesterday as was dinner. I also had a good therapy visit with no tears. Whew.
Off to start my day. DianeO, glad you got out for lunch! And you too Liz! And DD, enjoy your weekend away. I'm sue that hotel room has never been cleaner, which is a plus!
Over the last few years my entire front garden (the part against the house) has been filled with hydrangea bushes. They all look healthy and have tons of buds but one bush is much smaller than the others. Really annoys me as it was planted at the same time as 2-3 others which are much larger.

A hydrangea runt! I have two in my backyard I love. I forgot how much I loved them because normally I'm not here when they bloom. So that's a plus of staying home this summer. We have a bunch lining the front of the house in MI, but inevitably the deer eat the buds off the front of the plants in the fall, so they only flower on the part up against the house. Can't win with deer.
Talking about projects, one of mine is to get all the crap off the kitchen counters. I don't like cluttered counters but with InstantPots, mixers, air fryers, coffeemakers, toasters, food scales, etc, it's a mess. I started trying to find homes for things in the cupboards, but those are packed. I think the solution (though INCREDIBLY daunting) is to take everything out, organize it, weed it of unnecessaries then put it all back in smarter locations. Ugh. A good stuck-at-home-this-summer project though.
Good luck with the kitchen reorganization! That definitely can be daunting. My DS did some of it while I was in Florida and I am still re-buying some things...
